  1. If you buy from Holts that's how it works. When i asked about it i was told that is who it was always meant to be done. A mate sent his off it was sent back but because their was no one about to sign for it the post man left a not for in to be picked up at the office, the post office then gave it to someone else!
  2. I've got an Anschutz semi auto, I've put a lot of rounds through it as did my old man before not had a jam yet.
  3. try this one. section 111 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukla/Vict/31-32/113
  4. To widen the scope of the debate there was a time when it was considered that the moderators should also be proofed either individually or as part of the gun . In the past I have submitted a gun and mod to proof and both came back stamped Just to possibly muddy the waters a bit. If a rifle and moderator are tested are they tested together and if so would removing the moderator make the the rifle out of proof?
  5. Mine can be fussy about the cartridge length 70's are ok 67's ok 8 out of 10 times 65's for get it.
  6. It would be interesting to see what the numbers are for guns passing or failing proof testing and the reasons for any failures.
  7. Because the act says that if an alteration unduly reduces the strength of a barrel it is deemed to be out of proof there fore if the alteration dose not unduly reduce the strength of the barrel then it is still in proof. I don't think that screw cutting does unduly reduce the strength of the barrel (if done properly). So it would be for ME to decide if I should send my rifles for reproofing if I were to sell them.
  8. As said in another thread I think the law is worded something like "Any barrel that is altered in a way that unduly reduce its strength is deemed to be unproved" It doesn't say any thing about screw cutting or filing out rust pits or dents of anything else. So does screw cutting unduly reduce the strength of a barrel? If the barrel of a .50 was threaded for a 5/8" mod then i would say yes if a .22lr was cut for a 1/2" mod the probably not. If the person doing the work believes the work has not unduly reduced the strength of the barrel then it is not out of proof as I see it. I don't think the law has ever been tested in court so if I were screw cutting a barrel for someone I'd probably get it reproofed, wouldn't want to be involved in the test case. On the other hand I have not got a problem with using a rifle that has been screw cut and not sent for reproofing if the workman ship looks good.

    Cheap .410

Its well worth keeping an eye on Wallis & Wallis auctions at Lewes. I picked up 4 for £50 all in, ok one was a mess and dangerous so chucked that one in to the police, but the others were good to very good.
  10. I think it is all down to badly worded law (no shock there) in that the wording is some thing like "if the integrity of barrel is substantially reduced then it should be presented for re proofing" As to weather screw cutting does this would have to have to be tested in the courts and in a lab
  11. Don't think they even have proofing in america, any old bit of tub and away you go! Just look at some they have made on american guns . I always proof test any gun i get my self, heavy load, gun clamped down, a long bit if string and stand well back. Not that that answers you question in any way!
  12. Because that worked out so well for every one!
  13. There has been a few sheep killed on ashdown forest and i know someone how said they had seen a big wolf like dog one night but i think they may have had a bit too much in the pub as no one else saw it. I did see something in the summer on the why back from shooting at about 1 ish in the morning, it was just out of the head lights, thought it was a deer just moving oddly. But maybe not!!!! :o
  14. Don't know if is the right place for this, but I would like to try to id this case its big! on the bottom it has the date 1949 CF plus RW76 LOT 91 ECC a broad arrow and 78F and another broad arrow. The little one next to it is a .243
  15. Golf courses can be a lot of hard work and can be problematic as to when you can shoot but great shooting
  16. Is the gun nitro proofed, I picked up a job lot of 410s the other day at a sale and the 2 with 21/2" chambers were not nitro proofed.
  17. If your FAC is not "open" and it probably won't be you will have to check with your FEO that the ground has been passed.
  18. Tried one once, would have been better to eat a shovel! I did think it might have just been the one i had, but may be not.
  19. Medium trousers are 32 > 34" waist Medium jacket was up to 40" chest (i think)
  20. I picked up the trousers this morning got a few jackets is didn't get another. I did see the all in one thermals and thought about getting some for work, but couldn't see if they had a trap door in the back and if not that could be a problem!!!
  21. I say well worth buying back if thats all the damage. Insurance will only use new genuine parts and £100 per hour so the bills can tot up, but if you repaired with pattern / secondhand parts you could save 75% or more.
  22. An idea of the damage would help. If you are going to fix it your self it might be worth buying back if you would have to pay someone else to do it then probably not
