  1. Then how do gunsmiths get on with crimping mag tubes and re-proofing to turn a section 1 into section 2? I was looking at a Franchi AL48 on the "bargain bin" rack at Saddlery & Gunroom a short while ago, and was very tempted until I noticed it was S1. "No problem", they said, "we can do the crimp and re-proofing for £45". (Sort of regretting not buying it now 😟
  2. Vendor is not a Pigeonwatch member: you'll need to use the contact numbers in the advert.

    Yoga

Started with judo when I was 8. Discovered jujitsu at 18, and been doing that ever since, with a few forays into karate, western fencing and HEMA. Now studying iaido as well - much kinder on my aging joints (seated kata excepted 😖... ) Definitely!

    Yoga

This, in spades. Just started a class, as a gentler way of maintaining the flexibility from nearly 50 years of martial arts training. Most of my dojo time is spent teaching these days, and the accumulated aches and pains mean free play time is restricted - there is a definite limit to the number of times I can hit the mat in a session! First yoga session went by in a flash, and I didn't regret it massively the following day, which I must admit is what I had expected. Give it a try - you may find it works for you.
  5. Only caught the second half, as I'd forgotten to set the recorder. Highlight for me was Tuiliagi's monster tackle on the Irish 13, who took a pass then took the hit, getting shunted back about 6 feet by Tuiliagi, who appeared to be taking the shortest route to get to the ball - straight through... I'll bet the lad is feeling that this morning.
  6. Page not working at all on Opera 😡 Could only read the first comment by some utter James Kirk...
  7. Sounds like they got a bit confused taking the oath... "We are conscientious objectors to firearms ownership, but if you pay us enough we will do it anyway". Looks like they took the Hypocritic Oath instead 😡
  8. Another one to try - especially off you have had the filter cover and/or the carb off - check you have got the carb and filter seals in place. If they are slightly mis-placed, the thing won't start. Don't ask me how I know...
  9. Doesn't that come under "cruel and unusual punishment"? 😒
  10. Don't forget, it wasn't originally a lavish production - it was intended to be a cheap space opera, with a lot of the cast paid on a profits basis. A lot of the props are recycled bits of other stuff - like the light sabres. Once the first film was a runaway success, they kept the weapons and stuff the same for continuity.
  11. Hi GR Didn't know you were on here as well 😉 Great write-up 👍
  12. Fair enough 🙂 I'd be interested to know how well the bluing lasts on the blade.
  13. Tidy job, that 👍 Might I ask why you put a secondary bevel on? Moras are normally a zero grind... 😯
  14. The WhatsApp Gold thing is real - takes you to a malware store that installs all sorts of undesirable carp. The Martinelli thing has been around since early 2017, and it's thought to have originated in Spain. Yes, it's a hoax. https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/11/07/whatsapp-martinelli-warning-is-a-hoax-dont-forward-it/
  15. Put the wet & dry on the mouse mat and use it as a cushioned strop on the edge - lay the blade almost flat and draw the edge across the mat. This will also develop a slightly convex edge, which lasts longer without being any less bite-y. This method keeps the felling edge of my double-bit at the "shave hairs off your arm" level.
  16. Ah, a jewel of a hatchet 😎 I recommend 800 grit wet and dry paper and a mouse mat for keeping the edge shaving sharp.
  17. Heated: no, not in summer. In winter, add Derv to the mix to keep the viscosity down. Admittedly, my Surf has the winter pack fitted, including the heated fuel filter, but the tank isn't heated. It's just a matter of ensuring the veg oil doesn't gel - adding winter-blend diesel works. Separate tank? Can't think of a good reason why. Frequent filter changes: yes, indeedy! Not because veg oil is any dirtier than Derv, but because it has a greater detergent effect, and will pick up all the muck from the bottom of your tank, and deposit it in your fuel filter. If you are using used oil, then the increase in filter changes will depend on how careful you are with processing the oil. I used to hot-filter through a 25 micron bag filter, then shake up with the same volume of water and allow to settle for a week (I have a practically inexhaustible supply of 25 litre drums from work). The first removes any particulates, and the second dissolves out the acidic oxidation products from cooking (they are more soluble in water than in oil). The oil then separates out and floats on the water, allowing you to pour off the oil. You have to accept that you will waste a proportion of the oil, to avoid getting too much water in your fuel. Unfortunately, changes in environmental legislation means that waste producers (i.e. your local takeaway) have to account for all waste, to show that it has been disposed of properly. Not being a licensed waste disposal route means they aren't allowed to let you have it, without risking a big fine.
  18. I ran my Surf on either new or used veg oil for quite a few years, before the supermarkets put the price of new oil up since the cost of Derv, and local reclamation companies started taking all the used oil from chippies and takeaways and the like. Never a problem - just had to add a bit of Derv to the mix if the temperature dropped below freezing.
  19. I have some cut and seasoned magnolia logs up for grabs - if anyone would like them for turning/carving/making stuff, they are free to collect from NW Kent. They've been down about 4 or 5 years, and have been in a dry garage for all of that. Longest one is just over 4' long, fattest is about 4" diameter. Getting rid because I need the space! Failing that, they can always go in my log-burner...
  20. Ba-dump....Tish! It is panto season, after all 😂
  21. This size, but yellow! Bought a couple of years ago, not used much. Main piston shaft is slightly bent - had been in garage ever since. Free to collect from NW Kent.
