  1. Shot one in the head last week that continued to gasp on the floor. I wasn't sure if it was nerves or not so put an extra pellet in him, job done. They are very tough critters but it's our responsibility to make sure suffering is minimal. The vet that said that it should be put down must be on a wind up.
  2. Fantastic idea will definitely be trying this. Thanks
  3. I've always put an old jumper in the crate with them as your scent can comfort a puppy during it's first few weeks away from it's mother.
  4. Using eggs as bait works Had another two Magpies one head shot at 25 yards and one who was about 40 yards away that got it in the heart. Thinking back I should of waited for him to come closer though as I'm sure it'd of been a lot easier to retrieve rather than scrambling through holly bushes to confirm he'd been taken cleanly. I'll pop down the shop later to grab a few different size boxes of matches although the thought of using matches to attract them seems like sending a naive lad to fetch tartan paint.
  5. They are still about but have unfortunately moved where they congregate about 200 yards into a place where I can't fire safely. I've noticed the odd couple on the outskirts of the group but as you say they are extremely alert.
  6. Just wanted to post an update to this. I must of been lucky with the first one as the rest are ridiculously hard to get a hold of. I've tried to bait them but no luck so far. On the plus side however I've had two grey squirrels that are now sat in the freezer P.S I didn't feed him to my Yorkie but he has obtained a new habit in trying to catch any bird that lands in the garden.
  7. My war against the Magpies has officially started Got my first today with a headshot using my HW97 he didn't even flap so I'm very happy that it was a clean kill and that there is one less squawker about. I showed it my Yorkie and he's gone wild over it and he seems to want to eat it. Are there any problems with him doing so? As I wouldn't want to eat one but I'd be happy to let him if it's not going to damage his health.
  8. Thank you all once again for the warm welcome. Enjoying my HW97 although it's a little heavy to carry for long periods. I'm becoming more accurate everyday and am enjoying myself immensely. It's weird but I'm loving nature more and more and can't wait to cull some Magpies so that we can have more song birds in the back garden as we have a quite aggressive group that seem intent on causing maximum destruction to any bird species that are unlucky enough to be smaller than them.
  9. I've just finished the first day of training with my 13 month old JRT & she's already a completely different dog compared to when she woke up. She's done especially well with the heel command. Only problem I've got is that she wont leave my side whilst on the lead so teaching the recall command may be a little difficult. I can't recommend this enough and can't wait to see what my dog's like after a couple of weeks.
  10. Thank you for the warm welcome. I got my hw97 today, unfortunately the weather has stopped me spending too much time with it at the moment :( Oadamo, I used to work in Willenhall at Nightfreight and at the ****** just round the corner. Double Luck I think it's called.
  11. Hi all and happy new year. I'm from the Walsall area of the West Midlands and tomorrow I should be taking ownership of a brand new HW97KT SYN. Can't wait to get shooting and hopefully it won't be too long before Mr hop and his/her mates are on the dinner table.
