  1. Pogues for me as well , closely followed by the first band aid , Do They Know Its Christmas .
  2. As for cold feet , since I have been wearing neoprene water boots ( Hunters Balmoral ) with a decent pair of socks on , cold feet are now a thing of the past and I wouldn't go back to the cotton ones .
  3. I cannot offer any advice what so ever as there are a lot of good guys on the forum far more up to it about legal matters than I am, but if I was in Feltwads shoes I would be gutted thinking as already mentioned it has survived possibly over a century only to come unstuck in the postal service. I have seen photos of Feltwads collection on vintage fowling guns and what a fantastic job he do trying to preserve our fowling history. I hope from the bottom of my heart you get a satisfactory outcome , GOOD LUCK and I wish you All the best.
  4. I normally send it signed for if the item is over £20 as the insurance is then £50 , whereas 2nd class only goes up to £20. In my situation it wouldn't had made any difference as my parcel was delivered to the address and with nobody there to accept it , it was then taken back to the sorting office before it was sent back to me , so even with it being signed for , I would still have got it back.
  5. THANKS to the above replies , the £2.90 don't bother me one bit , if I resent the parcel and through some reason she was out or couldn't pick it up then it was returned back to me, I would then be back to where I am now , and if I refunded her in full she could then send a negative feedback and say she had to open a dispute after she never received her items she paid for. so unless I defend myself I could end up losing all ways for no fault of my own .
  6. I sold two plates on Ebay , the woman paid and I posted them the next day , I didn't hear no more until our postman brought the box back to mine with labels stating there was no one at home and it wasn't collected. I informed the lady to say I have got the parcel back as it wasn't collected in the time frame and if she want me to resend it, can she pay me the £2.90 postal charge or I would refund her for the plates minus the original postage. She don't seem that bright and sound foreign to me but she keep insisting I send her the plates as she have already paid for them , after four or five emails with me telling her I have sent the parcel and it is now back with me, I seemed I was getting nowhere, so I found out how to post a photo and sent her five photos of the package with her name and address on and also the post office prof of postage. She still insist I post it or she will report me for not sending it , after doing my best to resolve it , she have now opened a dispute case because it wasn't sent tracked even though she had prof of me sending it. I was going to ring the resolution centre tomorrow up to explain the situation . What would you do ?, or am I on a loser .
  7. A good bag for the likes of us , but for you its not the sort of bag we have come to expect after being out most of the day , certainly not the easiest time of the year to shoot large bags of pigeons, but as always , well done for the commitment you two show to pigeon shooting. By the way , that rape look very sparse compared to the majority of rape fields in our area.
  8. Nice to know a little bit of luck is finally on your side . Merry Christmas to you and your lad .
  9. Very impressed with the above offers , still a lot of good people out there .
  10. I agree with you entirely , the only pigeon shooting I like in snowy conditions is roost shooting in a good wood . I now leave decoying well alone in icy conditions and leave that to those who are more resilient to the cold than me , and that is most of them
  11. Sometimes we are to set in the way we go about trying to shoot pigeons on rape , each and everyone who shoot pigeons will come up with the way they do things , some people will be convinced its right and the rest will say its wrong . In other words there isn't any one way of doing things , we all now one day the magnet will draw them in as there is no tomorrow and the next time , even though you start off with dead birds on the magnet you start thinking after birds are flaring off that it would be better turned off for what good it is doing . So weather you decoy well in , well out , spread them out , put them in a tight bunch or use one of the many ways we are told is the way to do it , if none of the methods you normally use are working to your satisfaction then experiment with different ways , as TIGHTCHOKE says it always, worth a try!
  12. I haven't watched my copy yet due to being out most days either , driving the guns about , beating or a bit of fowling but after next Saturday I have got some days free so I will certainly watch it . Going by some of the above reviews it don't sound as good as some of previous ones , is he trying to turn out to many and the standard is beginning to show ?. I have got the Fenland Wildfowlers d v d as well and I wondered if it would be possible to make a new one of the Lincolnshire W A clubs and bring the Ouse washes in as well , we have some very good members on the forum who make smaller version videos on pigeon and duck shooting and I am sure they would be more than capable in putting one together .
  13. That sums it up nicely aga man , living in the sticks , as long as I wasn't injured, I would find the inconvenience of being without a motor the most annoying bit , why people don't drive to the road conditions I will never know . Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction Mr JDog.
  14. I have looked at , and handled some lovely guns while standing with the guns on there pegs , but I would say one of the nicest and possibly the most expensive gun I have shot with was a James Woodward + Sons , sidelock ejector , this was one of my governors guns and he lent me it to try and teach his sisters boy to shoot ( without success ) , when he hinted one day what I would like as a retirement present , I smiled and mentioned the J Woodward , I don't think he was listening because I never did get it
  15. Very good question , I have never been into goose decoying so I cant offer any advise , but I would have thought the op paid good money to be dumped into a ditch , left a few goose decoys and expected to get on with it . It might not had made much difference, but if the so called guide had stayed with you and altered the decoys to attract the overhead skeins and used his calls to try to make them alter there course , then at least you would then see he is trying his best even if the end result was the same .
  16. I did see on one of the d v ds I have got where the bloke was shooting over decoys before he had a heavy snow shower that covered both the ground and decoys , when the shower passed over he shook the snow off the decoys then got a large branch and cleared the snow off the rape and around the pattern and then carried on shooting with results as if nothing had happened . So your method is well worth trying , also with todays lightweight nets and if two or three of you were together, using Hawkeye method could also bring results when the normal way of during things draw a blank , you will never know unless you give it a try , GOOD LUCK
  17. The only item of Red I have got in this cold weather is my lugs and most of my nose , so part of my face should be nigh on invisible . I think in the majority of weather and light conditions , a camo coat would be as well as any, and better than most .
  18. Thanks Maxwell , I can understand people shooting there normal standard by changing the chokes in multi choke guns as the gun itself is still the same , but changing to something like the hushpower with what look like a short piece of pipe on the end of the barrel I would find it a bit off putting to say the least. I use the same gun all the year round weather its pigeons , game or wildfowl so I get used to the weight , bringing it into my shoulder and trigger pulls , every now and again I give one of my other guns a day out and straight away I find everything different from the straight hand stock to pistol grip , barrel length ( 28 to 30 ) and the trigger pulls and yet these guns used to get every day use by me at some stage of there lives , but after a few shots the minor changes are soon forgot about .
  19. Looking at the majority of the posts relating these hushpowers , I think its fair to say they are not the easiest guns to shoot straight with and to do any good you might have to shoot high , low , wide , add bits on and take things off, fair enough but after you have worked it out how to hit whatever quarry you are after , how do you then get on with your normal gun , do you have any problem adjusting back to normal use ?
  20. Hi Gerry .... I hope you are beginning to see an improvement with your leg problem , at the moment it is pouring it down with heavy rain so on days like today I don't mind doing the same as you, taking it a bit easy . As for the Air Ambulance , as part of our health and safety ruling , in our beaters and guns wagons we have to have a list of map references of the different locations we go to in case we need to call the A / A in a situation where the land ambulance couldn't reach us , another reason we have to carry a mobile phone .
  21. My thoughts on mobile phones was the same as you , then my last few years at work before retirement I had to carry a mobile as part of the estates policy for all employees and more so the ones who work in exposed places. I didn't use it that much but it didn't take up much room in my pocket and in an emergency it could easily be a life saver , not only for yourself but anyone else in trouble . Now I have reached 70, the phone is not only a lifeline for me it also gives my wife peace of mind when I am down the marsh at night or pigeon shooting in isolated places . Up to now I haven't used it in an emergency but the day might come where it not only save my life but also somebody else who is in serious trouble .
  22. Another problem with rape at this time of the year is a lot of the stuff is grown in game shooting areas and unless pigeons are doing any serious damage ( which is rare around our way ) then you will not be allowed near it till the day after the very last shoot , which then makes it hard for shooters on surrounding land .
  23. There are very few posts this time of the year concerning large bags of pigeons shot on rape , come to that medium ones as well , when one of the most dedicated pigeon decoyers on the forum ( P C ) struggle lately getting a big bag by his standard on rape then you realise how difficult it is. Yes there are experts on here but even those guys don't post any big bags off rape , maybe some when it start germinating but not at this time of the year, I have got the time but I don't like wasting it sitting on a cold hedge for the odd shot when I could get on with any out standing work so it then give me even more time when the time come to make it worth while . I would say the biggest handicap is the quantity grown , how many times do you hear , I had a couple of shots and didn't see them no more , no you wouldn't if they have got another half a dozen fields in the area. GOOD LUCK .
  24. What were your reasons getting one in the first place aga man ?
  25. I tend to agree with you , I have got all the fowling ones and the new one came through my letterbox yesterday , I will no doubt watch it over the Christmas period on a day like today with a nice cup of tea and a mince pie , . All right , you mustn't take them to seriously but I like his hands on approach and he isnt frightened to get his feet wet and go out when it gets a bit parky ,
