Had a 54 plate petrol for 8 years never gave me any bother I loved it did about 90,000 miles in it. Upgraded to a 13 plate diesel last year also love it however it did cost me 400 to sort a busted window screen wiper motor in the winter. I like the practicality of the xtrail big enough for dogs and gear but not so big it sucks fuel like nobody's. Mines one of the last before they changed shape to the current one which I don't like the y are quite small in comparison boot wise etc. I get about 36 / 38 mpg well it tells me that lol.

I am also a keen shot, angler, fly tier and very amateur photographer can I just say the pics are all fantastic and worthy of being in the top mags and internet media etc. Very inspirational indeed!! Love the look of those orange dabblers. Those big brownies are awesome.

Nikon's are good kit I have the d3100 had it for a good few years now and it came with a couple of lenses 55mm and a 300mm also came with a manfrotto tripod which I have hardly used tbh. The beauty is that it comes with lots of auto features and is easy to use. If you want to play around just pop onto manual. Am not sure what today's equiv of it would be. Just checked it has DX VR lenses I have took many nice pics with it.

Spent Sat morning early afternoon on an Ayrshire river, downstream wet flies till just after 12 when a hatch of olives and big stone flies came on then switched to lighter kit for upstream dries. 10 fish from approx 6inch to 12 the biggest. Was good fun . Was out couple of weeks ago and did well on the rainbows fishing an oakham orange on point and nymphs on dropper.

Works well with an intermediate too a FAB on the point and a couple of droppers with buzzers or nymphs etc cast out a couple of pulls to straighten everything out then slow fig of 8 retrieve with intervals of leaving the flies static works well for me. Have also had success with intermediate line booby on point one dropper nymph and a splitshot a foot away from the booby and varied rates of retrieve including some erratic fast slow pulls. A far cry from a bit of light upstream dry fly fishing with little dries which I also enjoy but the right tools for the right jobs catches the fish. If going that deep I would ditch the bloodworms and fish a booby / FAB / egg fly / floating fry on a short leader static with the odd pull. I have caught fish with a 10 inch leader before just choose based on how far up you want the fly to rise to. Would quite like a bash at Graftham, big pike in there too?
