  1.

What I find more concerning are the idiots with O/U and S x S guns that remove them CLOSED from a gunslip and then wave them around while they find somewhere to put the slip, THEN they may open them. Have a look around any clay ground, there are more empty cases in and at the rear of the stand, these are from the opening gun brigade who just eject them anywhere, except the bin. A lot of people use an auto because of recoil issues and shoulder injuries and they are usually far safer than most shooters, due to the unfair prejudice of other shooters. I use an O/U, but I have the same choke in each barrel, I therefore do not need to choose between the two. I also use an auto for pigeon shooting, but was forced to use an auto for clays too, after a shoulder op.

Sadly I don't think the idiots you're talking about would be any safer with a semi auto!

Same goes for the shells being left behind, they'd be the ones not picking up the auto sprayed shells!

There's nothing wrong with either used correctly, I love autos and how they shoot but I guess I've just never thought about using one for clays specifically as apart from the recoil see no advantage.

I've often thought I'd love to try my auto on driven pheasant (with two shots) as I shoot very well with it, but that's another argument over people frowning on them there too!

  2. Semi autos aren't unsafe by any means and I've ran one for pigeon shooting for years, but apart from the lower recoil (which was never an issue for me when I was 15 with my first 12 bore) I just don't see the advantage of a semi auto over an o/u for clay shooting only and especially not for a beginner.

You only have one choke for a start so can't choose between the two, there's generally more to go wrong and they spray the empty shells everywhere.

As well as that no matter what you say it's not as easy to keep an eye on how many shells are loaded/check the barrels and grounds just seem to frown on them as a rule whether that's right or wrong!

  3. Bigger shops such as Avalon Guns stock quite a few left handed guns, just a matter of keeping an eye on the websites and checking stock periodically as obviously they'll not stock a left handed version of every make and model. I've never had a 'problem' finding them, bought a beretta 682golde brand new left handed model some years ago with lovely wood to boot, and a lefthand beretta auto just a couple of years back also new.

I'd agree with holding out for a beretta/browning over one of the cheaper guns if you're wanting to keep it long term.

That said, a Lanber bought for me nearly 20 years ago is still in my caninet and going strong although it only comes out once a year or so now for sentimental reasons.

  4. The living wage side of things is irrelevant as he's self employed with his own business, not an employee which is what that is based around. If he's only doing odd hours here and there that's more than fair, it may be cheaper on a whole day rate....what he's doing for the money would be my issue rather than the hourly rate.

  5. How nosey and downright rude really to be asking you 'what you're in for' in a hospital in the first place. I guess I many be a bit private but would neither ask nor want to speak to someone about any illness/condition I may have and very bad show how you've been treated if you ask me!

Unless of course, as said they wanted rid of you anyway (it doesn't sound like you'd given them any reason for that though).

  6. Yes they did ,they had realised that Ford were going to buy them and so needed to re- tool their factories to fight them off and so stopped buying top quality components from Germany and instead got them from China and South Korea.they thought that it would take three years for the buying public to notice and then the factories would have been sorted but we noticed after 18 months and started buying Japanese Toyota Lexus instead. Better car and a bit cheaper price as well! they invested in AA knights of the road set up in VW And Mercedes branded vans and clothing to give people the impression that they were getting great customer service when they broke down but they only broke down because the components in their cars were poor quality .So lets buy British especially now that we have voted to leave!

What's that got to do with air rifles?

  7. First little session on the rape for me yesterday only produced a lowly 25....that's two cracking outings for you PC.

It's interesting that you setup a little later and shoot well into the afternoon, I find by 1.30 I've usually had the best of the shooting.

  8. Pin money haha....laughable really, and yes I do run my my own business (electrician). Obviously I will for certain members of family/close friends but no one else, learnt that one pretty quickly.

'just pop in when you're passing/don't make a special trip' are the usual signs of someone wanting to slip you a tenner and no more.

  9. I did a driving experience day at castle Combe as a birthday present over 10 years ago now.....totally hooked and never looked back! There at least, the instructor seemed to pick up on how much I was enjoying it and had me pushing the car as hard as I wanted within reason.

I have a dedicated track car now and do on average 10 days a year there, it helps only living 10 minutes down the road.

The adrenaline rush is unbeatable for me and satisfies my need for speed without doing so on the roads!

I happenes to get a ride round in the fastest caterham they make driven by their pro driver earlier this year, now that was the best buzz in a car I've had.....amazing!

  10. Not looked at the air arms, food for thought. It's finding somewhere with everything on the shelf to pick up I think!

It's the reliability stories that put me off mainly, don't want to spend 1k on an air rifle and have an under powered leaky rifle!
