  1. I think they fear opposition that could possibly lead to domestic uprising. In order to suppress any possible insurrection, any credible critics who start to gain a groundswell of support need to be neutralised - if prison or exile does not shut them up, then assassination will. Murder of opponents does not stop dissent, but it keeps it sufficiently below the surface to enable it to be controlled. The ultimate means of control is to create fear amongst the population - if they see what might happen to them if they speak up, they will keep quiet. So it's not necessarily that Putin was afraid of Navalny or what the West thinks- he was afraid of the affect this might have domestically if he did not nip it in the bud. These dictators don't care what other people think of them, they only care about retaining power and the creation of fear is one of their main weapons, along with military and economic might too of course!
  2. Hi Flash, If your price includes postage - I will have the Fife Kinross Jacket off you please! Thanks, John.
  3. Sorry for late reply - I put 2 bottles (pints) in all told. First one bottle but a lot of that got absorbed / evaporated as cooking progressed, so I added another. I never let the level drop below half way up! Cheers, J
  4. I cooked mine in cider, in the slow cooker for 7 hours. It's turned out the most delicious ever! Cheers, John.
  5. Ah, ha ........now I'm getting my brain around it! Sorry I've been slow on the uptake and thank you all for your patience. I was treating the BC figure like some kind of crucial holy grail and didn't realise how little difference second decimal point variations would make over .22 LR viable range. Thank you! Cheers, John.
  6. AAaargh....... don't do this to me! Just when I thought I was there, the goalposts have moved! Does this mean the 0.140 G1 Drag Table figure from Eley is my best choice? Cheers, John.
  7. Thanks ever so much guys - this gives me the confidence to set 0.125 as my BC. It's all a bit of a foreign language to me, but I take your point about there being very little real difference between the two values, when all other variables are taken into account and I'm certainly no top marksman. Thanks again for taking time to reply and explain. Cheers, John.
  8. Thanks Rewulf. I spent a fair while on Google this morning and found, not only did explanations seem to contradict each other, but also the knowledge was so riddled with other abbreviations and technical terminology beyond my ken, that I gave up! I figured I would come here for a more simple explanation. It seems rather as though the world of ballistics is a bit akin to that of astrophysics - if you aren't already an astrophysicist, you wont understand the principles! Cheers, John.
  9. Thanks for that Scarecrow! Any idea what the different Drag Tables refer to though? Cheers, John.
  10. Morning all, I recently contacted Eley to ask them what the official Ballistic Coefficient number is for their Eley Subsonic Hollow 38 grain ammunition. The reply I received contained the following information: "I can confirm the ballistic coefficient for all our products is the following: 0.140 - G1 Drag Table 0.112 - RA4 Drag Table I hope this information helps with your investigation." I am relatively new to the mysterious world of bullet ballistics and am in the process of setting up the Ballistic Calculator on my new scope, based on using Eley Subsonic Hollow 38 grain ammunition. Can someone kindly explain in layman's terms, the difference between the 'G1 Drag Table' and the 'RA4 Drag Table' and which coefficient number I should input into my Ballistic Calculator? I remain grateful in anticipation, John.
  11. Range finder is accurate (I tested it against my Hawke one) and easy to operate, but I've still got to get my fingers to remember which buttons do what, without having to look! It's really very simple and intuitive - just takes practice to remember without having to think! I have set up the ballistic calculator, but it was getting freezing cold and I wanted to get home for the football, so I've not yet tested it. I have ranged with it and it seems to be putting the hold over position marker in the right sort of place! Cheers, John.
  12. Yes Dave, as far as I'm aware, the 50 is not yet available, even direct from Pard. Fortunately, I wanted the 7o with lrf anyway, but those who are into rat shooting and close range stuff like that would probably do best to wait for the 50. Cheers, John.
  13. Took the plunge last week and ordered the new PARD DS35 Night Vision Scope direct from Pard in China. It arrived the other day - been out zeroing it and setting up the ballistic calculator etc Have to say I am seriously impressed so far! Cheers, John.
  14. It might be worth your while waiting to see what the new PARD DS35 Night Vision Scope 2K is like Steve. Early pre-launch reviews are very positive! Cheers, John.

Can you not attach it to the frame upright of the fixed panel to the left of your door?
  20. They are extremely effective. I use mine with prescription insert lenses attached and find that they work well. Yes, they take some getting used to in the sense that they are more like wearing goggles rather than glasses, so I can understand why some find them uncomfortable. They react instantly to bright light and I've not found a problem with them re-adjusting to normal light - that might just be because that scenario hasn't presented itself! As Figgy says, the best thing is to try them yourself. My stockist had a 'trial' pair that you could use. Not sure if that applies with 'Covid Safe' regs now, but 'Yes' I am happy with mine! ATB, John.
  21. Superb effort, especially by Tightchoke & Hawkeye, but also by all who contributed to make this happen. Renews faith in humanity and sets a good example demonstrating what this forum is all about. Well Done everyone and keep getting better Martin! Cheers, John.
  22. Hi Dave G, I live in a Taylor Wimpy built house and generally speaking I think it is pretty well built. The brickwork and first-fix joinery is excellent, electrics are fine (but they are heavily regulated anyway!) plastering and finishing is also very good. My only gripe is the quality of the second-fix joinery, but then again I'm a carpenter, so I'm probably being picky! I think Team-Tractor's observation about 'the weakest link' is very true, also, it very much depends on the ability of the Site Agent to ensure quality - each different development by the same National Housebuilder will be slightly different, regardless of company standards. It's all about supervision and enforcement. Have a lovely weekend! John.
  23. Pay at Pump facilities have now become a firm favourite site for card skimming fraudsters now that they are being so heavily used. This makes paying inside more of an attractive option for me!
