  1. Yep, not after big bags just a project, somewhere to chill and hopefully some conservation, but most of all fun for me and the dog
  2. Part of a rough shoot syndicate, can shoot when I want but would be interested in a side project of setting up a little side project of having a flight pond. I would put auto feeder on, bit of landscaping, pest control. I would shoot it myself with my partner sometimes and invite lads off the rough shoot. I assume that renting is the way foward for a pond? I'm guessing similar techniques to get permission, word of mouth, door knocking and agg stores notices? Just looking for pointers off those who have done it and potential pitfalls/ things to look out for? I'm fine with drafting contract and contract law from the day job. Cheers Redogi
  3. Well got around to it Sunday whilst watching cricket, chicken legs, drumsticks and thighs, salted and left for an hour, then poured a can of coke over and left for an hour, took out and covered in loads of ready mixed BBQ powder, left for an hour, temp was a little high so smoked for a 2-2.5 hrs (was drinking so memory not too clear) usedcedar wood throughout.......... absolutely delicious 😀
  4. 👍 with the predicted heat wave might get chance to play soon, would say chicken thighs be easier to start with?
  5. My boy is now 7, black lab got at 1 year, was going in a dogs home next day, kept in a 6x8 kitchen 14 hrs a day without any attention, loved but left all day he had destroyed the kitchen, thought he might be too far gone. Turns out best dog in the world (well to me) tried training him with a professional, turns out dog knows what he's doing, I don't! He beats with me, retreves well, will never win a competition, sometimes mugs other dogs for a retrieve, but on our informal shoot he works. He had a lump removed 2 weeks ago, was cancerous but they got it, won't ever get a better dog, might get one better trained, but not one better, I'm sure a lot if you know what I mean!!
  6. Thanks for the responses, was planning on first go Friday gone but bloody rain stopped play, I'm not going to leave it for 8hrs but get it going and check hourly around dog walk, gym gardening etc. Some say you only need wood chips smoke for end couple of hrs some seem to say throughout, what are people's views/ experience? Or has fatchap says it is basically suck it and see☺
  7. Hi everyone, being looking on the web so think I have a basic idea of smoking meat, got a BBQ which doubles up as a smoker, 2 compartments, one with a chimney type, any tips very much appreciated! Planning on starting with pork shoulder, rub salt in, leave in fridge over night, rub spices, sugar etc in morning, and smoke low and slow for about 8 hrs, does this sound like a decent start? Cheers Martin
  8. Houseplant, if you would be so kind as to post NZ hunting posts regularly I'm sure a lot of us on here would be interested (and jealous). Do you fish?
  9. I just think he overtrained before hand and ran out of gas, also too long between fights. He's having 2 a year, very fit but ring rusty. On the plus side I can knock the diet on the head and say I have the body of the world heavyweight champion😁
  10. He's a top man, over half our shoot have bought off him and only have good things to say, recommend him to everyone, just make sure if you go to his you have space in your cabinet, I went to buy a 12 sxs, came away with a 12 sxs, a 20 sxs, a single 4.10 and. 12 semi! Would have got more but that would involve a bigger cabinet........which isn't fully ruled out!
  11. Jealous of Cuba fishing trip!! Got lesson at Draycote week Sunday, sounds like another addiction coming on.........shame work gets in the way he way.....,even enjoy work so that's not true, when are days, weeks years going to be extended to fit it all in😀
  12. Whatever you do good luck, sounds like exciting projects ahead, please let us know how you get on, sounds really interesting!
  13. Cool see you Saturday, I'm not bringing hide stuff there weren't any pigeons or crows about, besides Bas would never forgive if I shot pigeons without him lol
  14. Hi mate, you over Saturday for pest day? I've bought a smoker but can't figure out how to work it, I'll bring it and hopefully between us we'll figure it out. I'll bring 410 for rats if it works and semi auto with some 43g 3s on off chance of fox on the drive. Simon was thinking 9.30 start.
  15. I know it's an old thread but worth a shot....... anyone got instructions for using the rat attack mk 1, I'm simply too thick/in practical to work it out☺
  16. On the off chance it falls through I'd be very interested 😁

    rat smoker

If the above falls through 2nd dibs please.
  18. I'm interested, can I bring along my big stupid Labrador called Bas, he does what he wants, ignores me and is known to wander off with the shoot captain after mugging everyone at lunchtime................oh I think you might know him, see you Saturday 😁 Martin and Big bad Bas!
  19. Hi it's possible we may have a place for our shoot in Henley-in-Arden. It's a small very informal rough shoot. We put down roughly 100 ex layers 100 ducks, and show about 10 days per season. There is pest control Out of Season. Preference would be given to someone living locally and someone with a dog. If you've got a dog and live locally and you will be welcomed with open arms! Cost is about£400 for a full gun final cost to be determined when we meet in June but it will be around that amount. Drop me a private message if you're interested with your phone number I'll give you a call back and see how the situation is, of course isn't guaranteed but the shoot captain asked me to put this out because some of the members we're getting on a bit and we're not sure whether they will make it for this season. Thanks Martin
  20. Had a walk around with the dog, did see a single squirrel (did see 6 roe and a muntjac), when driving home saw 3 running across the road into the shoot! Still dog had a good Walk and I got some exercise!
  21. A farmer where I used to shoot put it well when I said the pigeons seemed to know what I was up to and would be in the field but feeding just our of range, he said "Well yes there the intelligent ones, all the stupid ones have already being shot" lol Of course it was more the stupid fool behind the gun, who had just got his license and didn't know about rekkies, flight lines etc.
  22. Yes but has you get older............at least that's my excuse!
  23. I have a one myself, but thought you had to take blade, chain bit off and mess up oil mix, is it as simple as leaving break on and jubilee clipping some hose? I have no diy skill being a pen pusher but I might manage that!
