  1. As regards to artichokes you are right, but I like to ridge them so when they grackle you get warmth in the ridge bottums
  2. Just looking ahead and seeing what other people have got on with. I would like to get half the covers into perenials, minimum of 2 years. Mainly to cut long term costs and also to spread risk of crop failures... I like artichokes and some of the kale mixes. What are others using?
  3. Any one want to swap a sxs beretta for a week old 525. Will post picture later
  4. Got some duck we put on a pond as points. They have grown really well and look healthy. But theybwont fly. I have let the gun off and flagged them but they get about a foot off the ground and land again. Last year we did exactly the same and they flew really well.
  5. Just bought a new Wessex salt spreader ( pheasant feeder), the question I want to know is, if I am spinning corn in the covers, can I reduce the number of feeders? And if so do I need any?
  6. Good point, but what's the difference with a man made perch and a tree?
  7. This is my concern too, can I make roosting by putting up perches.
  8. What I mean is I want to put a release pen in the cover, no trees no scrub just maize and sorghum. I can't and don't want to put the pen at the bottom because it's too close and I have found the birds just glide down to the pen, so I have 4 covers scattered on either side of the valley, with the intention of flying them to the alternate covers.
  9. I have a really deep valley but I have no woodland on it, I put partridge down but also want to put some pheasants down. Does anyone release pheasants into pens in maize cover with no trees? If so how do you do it? Any other tips welcome. Thanks in advance
  10. Forgot to mention that I would consider a swap with a good condition side by side.
  11. Yes we have, dad fishes and I shoot, but 2 of my sons want to learn so we are going up the road for a few lessons for me and the boys.
  12. Hello from the smallest but greatest little county. I am new to pigeon shooting but have been game shooting and vermin shooting for my whole life. I am totally hooked and really am enjoying the learning curve of this great little sporting bird. I farm on the east of rutland and we have plenty of woods and some great potential for this coming season ( 200acres of peas and some flat barley) So far had 3 times out on rooks and crows and have had 41,27, 14. Pigeons are yet to attack the peas but I am watching and waiting. I also am just starting up a simulated game shoot, aiming at the best value and some really good sporting targets in some steep valleys.
