  1. Hi Lads and Lasses. I have come across some old magazines which might just be useful as a read. The magazines are: "Airgun Sport" Issue No:1, dated January 2010 an introductory issue, then there are the other magazines that followed this one called, "The Real Airgun Sport" Issues No:2 - No:9, (March 2010 through to October 2010). These magazines are in excellent condition. The cost of the above is £15.00 collected from the Chasetown area of South Staffordshire. Postal arrangements can be worked out at buyers cost if required. If you are interested I can be contacted on 01543 685067.
  2. Hi Dekers, That link displays the same product that I purchased. If you look at the tin lid printing, just to the right of the word Wasp, you will see in bold print the word Pellets. The wording under that line, around the tin shows the name of bisley. Mind you, you would have known that anyway! Interestingly, that site gives the date of pre 1986. Somewhere, they must have gotten information to quote that figure! Is the plot thickening? Lets watch this space!!! Thanks mate. Ceara.
  3. Thanks Dekers, I purchased a tin of Wasps 5.6mm as soon as I obtained the Mercury S. If I had knowledge of this Forum prior to buying those pellets, I would have thought twice before buying them! You've guessed it, they were the Bisley brand and not the old Eley Wasps. Do they have any kind of Quality Control Dept for these Wasp pellets? I'll try a tin of AA Field in this rifle and see what the pellet group is like and how they fit the bore of this Mercury S. I think I will have to put the Chrono on the rifle, fire a few Wasps and then fire the AA Fields, once the Fields are obtained, to get some kind of comparison. I'm just wondering if I have a 'vintage' size bore or a continental 5.5mm bore as the 'S' variant started in the early 80's. hence the original question. Until I try the AA in it, I will not know. Roll on the Game Fair. Thanks, Ceara.
  4. Thanks lads, I had touched on this topic with bruno22rf a few days ago and I'll follow his recommendation and purchase a tin of AA Field 5.52mm to try in my BSA Mercury S when I attend the Game Fair in just over a weeks time. Thanks again to all for taking the time to reply. Ceara.
  5. Hi lads, First off, you lot have a wicked, dry humour! Anyone new to this forum, just read back over several of the pages. Can anyone give any info as to when the above change happened, possibly which year, model, serial number etc? Not expecting many replies but just might help those who are new to the "old bores" make a choice on brand and pellet size. Any further expansion on this topic would be appreciated. Finally, is it the head dia. or the diameter of the pellet skirt that is the important factor regarding the pellet fit into the bore? Thanks, Ceara.
  6. Hi Bruno, Spoke to R.S. yesterday, (Friday), and ordered that mount item you mentioned. So far, seems good service. Received an e-mail yesterday afternoon to say it had been dispatched. It turned out to be 5p. less than that shown on the "Bay" and still was free p&p. Thanks again, will buy som AA Field 5.52mm at the Game Fair in a fortnight. I bet you must have looked hard and long for a .177 version!!! Finally, thanks for clearing up my question regarding the Initials, I thought it was along those lines but had no idea how it was activated. Regards, Steve.
  7. Thanks Bruno, I use AA Field in my HW95K .177 and it seems to like them, never had a bad AA pellet yet, unlike the Wasp .22 pellets! Will give Ronnie S. a call today to have a brief natter. With this set-up, will there be any scope creep? Would like to know if possible, the power of your Mercury S assuming it is .22. Many thanks, Steve. P.S. Sorry to sound a bit "thick" but I've noticed on some topics the initials "PM" being used. Can you enlighten me please?
  8. Thanks bruno22rf, never heard of that type of mount before, it's certainly food for thought. The AA Field were one of my choices though I mighy try also the "Marksman" brand of pellet in 5.6mm mode when the supplier gets stock of them.
  9. Hi all, I had noticed the topic placed by SRSPOWER the other day. I'm in the same boat! I've just purchased, in a very nice condition, a specimen of the above. I then immediately purchased a tin of Wasp 5.6mm pellets to try it out. Purchasing that tin was a mistake, the pellets should have been rejected by their Quality Control! Question 1: Defiant Vintage, anyone got experience of these pellets in these rifles? Question 2: I would like to fit a scope at a later date but I see that there is no scope mount arrestor hole to prevent scope creep, anyone suggest the recommended way how to mount a scope on this model? Question 3: I have a Chrono which I would like to put on this rifle, but I think I should wait until I get a reasonable brand of pellet to fire through first. Can anyone tell me what was the original ft/lb for this rifle when it was sold? I would like this figure to compare my rifle's power against to get some idea of it's internal condition. Many thanks to those who reply. I've a local Game Fair coming up shortly this month, 'The 25th. West Midlands Game and Country Fair' at Shughborough, I hope to get my supplies then.
