  1. Committee report this evening: Full members 523; all categories now over 700
  2. During the lengthy spell I had working at the top of BASC this whitefront issue had been rumbling on. The antis want to use the 'look-alike' principle - which means if you can't tell the difference between the 2 races of whitefront in flight then best not to shoot any - just in case! BASC's reasons for being are three-fold: Something to shoot with Somewhere to shoot Something to shoot at So what is going on: the spread of medical clearance to get a certificate or a renewal. As far as I can tell the loss of pochard in December; a move to protect European whitefronts when there are over 1 million of them on the continent; rumblings about the reduction in the numbers of wigeon (before that is was pintail, mallard and snipe). We can see where this is heading. BASC won't take the police on over medical issues; won't do anything to acquire land (unless it happens to be deer stalking of course!); and now seem to be prepared to let our quarry list run down. Death by a thousand cuts comes to mind. So glad Kent left BASC and is putting its £40,000 a year to better use!
  3. Here is part of a mail to all clubs supporting the Association ..I will add here we have nothing to do with Kent at all ,though they did send a member of Kent to the London meeting .. Yes Richard, As the country's largest club by a country mile we will continue to be involved in consent issues, without paying any money to your 'consultant' or others too. Have a meeting with NE this week
  4. More progress - some good rabbit shooting about to be available on the Isle of Sheppey to club members.
  5. Good to see Shooting Times publishing KWCA press releases again after a lengthy 'blackout'!
  6. We used to get 1,000+ in Kent every winter. Not any more. Still reckon on about 200 though, and with luck can get one. Last three I have shot have been in North Norfolk. Very much potluck. KWCA marshes still my best bet for one.
  7. Best advice is try it and see. Geese will invariably move at some time when there is a good moon, but when and where will vary depending on area and circumstances
  8. The KWCA is providing crop protection over several hundred acres of oilseed rape in the Whitstable, Kent area this winter and as a result is able to offer pigeon shooting and vermin control permits on an extra seven sites. Five areas are open to both shotguns and air rifles whilst the remaining two are dedicated to Air Rifle Hunters.

  10. Kent Wildfowlers has plenty of shooting within an hour or so of you. Check us out at www.kentwildfowlers.co.uk
  11. There is nice area of grazing marsh to the south of the river Rother, between Peasmarsh and Wittersham. There are 3 areas of marsh on the Peversey Levels south of Herstmonceux. Total acreage available almost 200 acres. We manage the areas so that at least one is open every weekend. if you visit kentwildfowlers.co.uk you can ask for additional information. Plus of a course there is all the other shooting in Kent and beyond. You can join this season if you want, and of course tick a few boxes. Alan
  12. Committe report this evening - all time high of Full shooting members of 511. Plus of course the many other categories pushing us towards 700. More waiting to join and joining daily.
  13. I know quite a few other clubs have, and well done to them too. The problem is in some parts of the country available land is scarce and/or there is a lack of wherewithal to pursue opportunities. That's why Lee and I, as well as working together locally to buy land, we worked hard nationally to promote the concept. Sadly eventually to no avail. So all we can do is continue locally and do what we can within available resources
  14. Indeed! Descended is the right word. That's what you get when you have narrow-minded people on here! Heh ho!
  15. That depends where you are. Two hours before the tide you wouldn't be able to get onto some of the Kent marshes. Find out what time access creeks flood and plan accordingly. In Kent I always allow about four hours before high water; creeks will fill later than that, but better to early just in case!
  16. Because my business is my business - especially if someone gives the impression of being a BASC lackey!

  18. You're the one being judgmental. Make your own mind up like you have above in several places!
  19. You know so much about what went on and who did what from reading a report you tell me!
  20. You sound like my first wife! Unless you were in a position to know what went on - and hiding behind a pseudonym who knows! - then you don't know. That's what I said about having balls! Interesting that when Curtis was taken to court for award of costs he apparently came out on top - so perhaps it wasn't as clear-cut after all. If he had been that bad he would have had costs awarded against him. That cost BASC members a pretty penny then! Anyhow, when you've finished sniping back to the KWCA/CWA purchase. Didn't we do well!
