  1. I have heard of cotton balls on a 4" bit of string secured in a wads base etc for doing this too
  2. I can take geese at 30 yards with bismuth .just had a couple yesterday--but these guns have very little choke,if any at all.40 Yards is a no go really, pattern all blown to hell .Using TSS will allow me to shoot out to 40/45 yards thus making flighting viable on all but sky scraper days .Using bismuth would mean only low (ish)geese would be takeable humanely (30 yards max) As for cost.have you ever used a percussion gun?You will go thru far fewer shots and be happy doing so as thats what it all about.Letting go half a dozen barrels with 28g of TSS is going to cost me 15 quid maybe--but its going to give me a half dozen birds if i chose to do so.More than likely ,as usual, im happy with a pair. And for six quid.two in the bag and a lovely memorable black powder morning thats well worth the six quid .---fibre wads now available for steel/non toxic.Using a mylar wrap in these fibre wads should protect well enough

    Pinkfoot!

Ditto saw 40 or so flitting about the stubble.Earliest i have ever seen them in Fife.
  4. Aye Jim picked up a pedersoli s/s 12.Tidy gun. It'll see a few outings this season soon as i organise the reloading correctly.Still need a capper to save carrying the caps in a tin box.I can see myself with an old percussion 8 in the future
  5. a lot of folks advise roughly 68 grains of the 777 for a 11/8 load stating its a very mild load for old guns.safe and not too pokey. what i see on my dads old powder/shot hand measure for black powder/shot for a 11/8 load. is 2 3/4 drams of black i .e 75 grains. Knocking 15% off to get like for like velocity /pressure wise means using 64 grains of 777 --similar to this "mild" load they talk about for older guns..Amusing thing is that all this fuffing is to create a black powder cloned load when as you say chris you can use 777 volume for volume if you like.It just means you are going to get a faster load with more pressure and a modern made gun should be able to handle it . Its a perdersoli 12 bore btw. A 70 grain load of 777 (11/4 oz load) equates to the widely used 3 dram (82grain) black powder load when i reduce the 3 drams by the advised 15% . if im trying to replicate the black powders ballistics. If i use more 777 powder i increase pressure/velocity and possibly start to blow the pattern.handy that as its a 21/2 dram measurement--easy to do so it seems 64-68 for a 11/8 load 777 and 70-75 for a 11/4 oz is about right allowing for this 15% reduction. If i creep up a few grains it should be fine so long as i never exceed the advised black powder volume for volume maximum loads.
  6. Im reading also that yes you can use it volume for volume --i.e using any powder flask with a cut off volume button etc.But this will give you higher velocity etc.reducing it by 15% is supposed to drop the velocity back to its black powder volume equivelant--in other words im not as concerned as i was a few hours back. cheers Chris. ill cut a case down tomorrow morning 3 drams or 82 grains equal volume 1 1/4 oz black powder load seems popular.ill use the brass charge cup ,measure out 3 drams into a cut case ,mark it and cut it..15% reduction approx can be done visually if its too pokey for me or if it seems to be blowing the pattern.(70 grain) 21/2 drams roughly
  7. im reading here that the conversion for black powder substitutes is done by volume so this page claims adjustments are needed.the first to adjust ,for example, 100 grains of goex weighing 85 grains and 100 grains 777 weighing 73.3grains . You then take the 15% OFF the 73,3 grains???????. Seems odd to me. https://www.curtrich.com/BPConversionSheet2005.htm
  8. I did find a few listed but lost them !Anyone have some tried and tested 1 1/4 loads using 777.Picked some up today with some rws caps .Testing gun tomorrow.1 1/8 oz loads welcome too.Aware of 15% reduction over standard BP but i can work all that out as it aint rocket science.Sorely tempted to take the gun out for the start of the season---but we shall see,.
  9. was going to pick some up today but Dundee stores shut.Anyone know of alternative suppliers near me???
  10. pedersoli 12 bore perrcussion. 11/4 oz max load
  11. Aye chris i reckon so--m reading it can blow patterns if loaded by volume same as real black and of course push the pressures right up thee.
  12. Until my licence comes thru im going to pick up some 777 powder.Anyone used it and if so what loads?? id like a 11/4 oz load for popping off at the duck.
  13. so its not for a gender reallocation😁😁😁
  14. In the hope someone here has a decent one for sale or knows of someone selling a shootable original piece?????
  15. pondering the benefit of TSS in a muzzle loader pederzoli?Pattern would be very thick with #7 shot even in cylinder at 35 yards.Anyone tried it with black powder as yet???
  16. if you like you could send on some pics of the gun.acbishop@sky.com.
  17. aye the cowboy models got very short barrels .Nae gid for fowling.
  18. send me some pics m8. acbishop&sky,.com
  19. Muzzle loader required as first choice .however, an underlever breech loading gun would be second choice for firing my own black powder loads.Anyone have one for sale? If so message me with price please rather than saying here that you have one
