  1. "NHS: Radical change allows school leavers to practise medicine without a degree" The headline is just sensation seeking like most news articles. 16-18 year olds are not going to practice medicine without training. 🤷‍♀️ Years ago nurses did what amounts to an apprentice placement learning on the job with classroom learning as part of it. Starting at the bottom doing the dirty jobs and gradually learning and taking on more complex tasks under supervision till they could do them on their own. Recently going to university, getting a degree and a load of debt before getting in at the dirty end and finding it doesn't suit puts many off. If a Doctors apprenticeship scheme works the same way it could be the way forward. Supervision till they are competant, with constant assessment and weeding out of the unsuitable. The mixture of practical under supervision and classroom learning with assessment and exams opens up the way to many who are put off from starting their working life with a mountain of debt. It does state further down the article that A level leavers could apply and so would still have to have a certain educational standard and interviews before getting accepted on the scheme like any apprenticeship. Way to go definatley.
  2. You have been looking again. Is it an effect of being ginger. 🤷‍♀️
  3. The Oxford English Dictionary does indeed include “coronate” as a verb meaning to crown, but it labels the usage rare.
  4. Queen Elizabeth was 27 when she was crowned and she is a tough act to follow. Queen Camilla is 75 and there is no way she can achieve what the late Queen did. She is not in the same position. I am sure she will be a good Queen and support to Charles for however long they reign.
  5. The bigger more expensive metal detectors will detect lead, mine does. Old battle sites are popular for detecting lead ball shot. I don't know if you would get a small cheap wand type to detect lead shot.
  6. OH used to service some electronics at Pedigree Petfoods factory and also a well known Poultry factory. He said Pedigree Petfoods was pristine and had very strict clothing regulations. He had to wear a complete white outfit with white boots, hat and beard cover to go in their meat production areas. It was stainless steel heaven. He even had to change to go in different areas and cover or remove rings. The Poultry factory producing food for humans was disgusting and he didn't know how they stayed in business as they flouted hygeine regulations. Staff where moving from brown overall areas to white overall areas without changing. He rejected some equipment and refused to touch it until it was cleaned as it was splattered with stinking bits of poultry and blood. Andrew originally studied food science and technology and worked in that area until he changed to electronics so knew the factory was not compliant.
  7. I find a lot of tinned dog food is full of cereal or vegetables and not meat. As I give my dogs fresh carrots apples and other greens I don't want them in the tins. Tinned cat food tends to be higher in meat content and I use that to make a gravy to add to their meal.
  8. My company did a retirement training course prior to me retiring. One of the lectures was on money management and using lump sums to invest in property. The advice in 2012 when I retired was unless you could afford at least 4 properties it was very risky if you depended on the income. If the risk was spread between at least 4 properties so the chances of bad tenants taking all your extra income was split 4 ways. With only one property if you got bad tenants, not only did you lose income and have to bear the legal costs of getting them out and cost of rectifying damage too. We did have tenants in my late husbands house for a few years after he moved in with me. They paid their rent ok, but when they moved out they left piles of rubbish behind both in the house and garden. As the house was being sold it was a nightmare to get it cleared before the new owner exchanged contracts.
  9. The poles are good for taking the straps on caravan covers under the caravan too.
  10. Depends on the definition of fag. Did you go to Eton. 🤷‍♀️
  11. A rabbit-on-rabbit session tends to only last about 20 seconds.☹
  12. Not into fishy Chinese recipes anyway. 🤷‍♀️ Bean sprouts are soft. You don't need teeth. If you can eat al dente peppers, sprouts are fine. The only thing against them is they look like toxicara canis.
  13. I use soya sauce, with orange juice, ginger, star anise and garlic amongst other stuff. Dry sherry is a good substitue for Saki. Unbleached cornflour for thickening. I buy Hoisin sauce in bulk and freeze it in plastic tubs. It stays spoonable when frozen, but keeps better. I buy a chunk of ginger root, peel it and cut into thin slices then freeze. I am lucky there is an Aldi on the edge of the village. Aldi do packs of bean sprouts too. You can also buy the green mung beans and sprout them on wet kitchen towel in a plastic tub in the airing cupboard. Rinse well to get rid of the green seed cases and use the sprouts as normal.
  14. All polititions are liars. Its a major qualification for the job. 🤷‍♀️
  15. Aldi do a selection of stir fry mixes in the veg section. Very good for solo cooking. I get 2 meals out of a pack of stir fry veg with added meat and sauces. Who needs salad in Winter. Its stew and dumplings weather still. 🤷‍♀️
  16. If you manage to get the animal check done when they have their booster vaccinations you get away with the appointment charge at our vets.
  17. I put a £1 a week on the National lottery. When they put it up to £2 I stopped. Most I ever won in one go was £68.
  18. I would give that hairbrush a clean too. 🤮
  19. I have watched all 8 episodes today. It was excellent. 👍
  20. One thing I like is that the dialogue is very clear and no overlay of loud music over the speech so you can hear what their saying apart from Gerald with the strong west country accent..
  21. Just watched Episode 1 Season 2. It is excellent. 👍 Time for breakfast now. 🙂
  22. I watch very few programmes prefering to read, but watched the first series and really enjoyed it. Will watch this one. 👍 https://www.britishfarmingawards.co.uk/jeremy-clarkson-and-kaleb-cooper/
  23. https://rsgb.org/main/publications-archives/radcom/silent-keys/ Some advice on here. I am lucky that Andrew's Nephew is doing his radio ham exams so will have the gear once he is licenced. I haven't got any need to find a buyer for Andrew's radio ham kit.
