  1. Such foolishness.....they are clearly a Sika, Red, CWD hybrid.
  2. Well done Underdog. If you got another air canister you could have both shooting and an inflatable friend to keep you warm
  3. All I can say is keep on at them mate. Phone them once a week and at least that way you have done everything that you could.
  4. I love seeing hares but one of my permissions has shed loads and they do a fair bit of damage so he wanted them shot. Shot around 30 last year and now he is happy. Ultimately if I didnt shoot them I wouldnt have the permission. Fortunately I have hares on some of my other permissions where the owners dont want them shot so I can just watch them which is great.
  5. Good going rim fire, well done.
  6. I dont have any objection to to the shooting of such species in the right situations, however it isnt something that I could shoot. That also applies to lions, tigers, elephants etc. Personal choice only.
  7. Had that on Saturday at the crows. Magic flask, magic phone, magic crisps, magic adjusting of decoys without gun...only thing that wasnt magic was my shooting ability that seemed to depart. 2.5 : 1 cartridge to kill ratio for 23 crows and a magpie (not good). I actually decided to move to the another field and stood up, took off my face veil and ear defenders to find 2 crows had come into the pattern and landed. Same as usual...by the time I was ready to shoot they were off across the field.
  8. The only saving grace is that when you finally see the feo his is a decent guy. I am in the same area as you living near Guilsfield.
  9. +1 always had good experience with these guys.
  10. Yep..me to ..magic crow shooting flask. May give up on the decoys and just use the flask. I also have a magic phone but just when I phone my wife. Out on Sunday and the second she answered I had to put the phone down for a left and right..20 seconds later another one came in but winged it followed by a hasty run across the field to despatch it. Finished the call and all quiet... Always makes me chuckle..
  11. I ve got the original photon yukon with a doubler fitted to an Anschutz 1517. Great bit of kit. Always nice to have an excuse to buy new kit.
  12. I think generally it would be handy for everybody to remember the point at which they started shooting, how much they knew and not be quite as harsh (and in some cases) condescending. It is easy to tell people to do their homework etc but I think we have all been in a position where we need a bit of help and advice. We only get to truly learn about the field craft, range estimation, suitable shots for suitable situations etc etc in "real life". I think the one size fits all attitude is less then helpful. For example saying that people would not head shoot to me is a generalisation like saying .22rf is not suitable for foxes. The situation, range, competency all come into play. I will generally chest shoot foxes with my .243 for preference but like the last 2 nights where I am after rabbits and foxes I have taken the .17 hmr. I prefer to take the shot as close as possible (under 80 yards) and head shoot them. I am confident in my abilities and always prefer to drop them on the spot with a headshot. This accounted for 3 in the last 2 nights. Phil9- take the positive comments on board but ultimately make a decision you think is the best one and go from there. Some will work nicely, some you will regret but you can always change calibre and rifles if they dont work for you. I changed from .223 to .243 and now have this as a dedicated NV foxing rifle. Great bit of kit, many would say "overkill" etc but couldnt care as it works well for me.
  13. Gaz thats just my opinion based on my experience and what I have heard in conversation with a few other people. In theory it should be first come first served but I think they are fire fighting and that they will give priority to those whose existing licences will expire. Just keep on the case and chase them each week, drop them e-mails etc. Let us know how you go.
  14. Gaz is this an initial application or a renewal? I imagine its an initial application so therefore a longer wait if you are in North Powys. I waited 4 months for my coterminuous (or however you spell it) renewal for FAC and SGC together. At the moment the force are clearing the backlog of applications for renewals as I imagine the issue of section 7 permits counts against them in terms of statistics. Good luck is all I can say, I know a few people in the same boat as you mate (though that wont help much).
  15. Well done mate always nice to get some new ground.
  16. that the problem with having 3 shots, doesnt always mean 3 kills, usually means three wasted cartridges. well done on the shooting wilksy
  17. Llandrinio / Four Crosses area in Powys is about right give or take 5-10 miles depending on which farm we tackle ...a fair way from you unfortunately but see what you think.
  18. I could offer you a day on the crows but as I am just outside Welshpool it may be a bit far (and you may be after pigeons).
  19. Same as usual. I couldnt get near ducks during the season but one of the farms where I shoot now have them paddling around in large puddles in the yard.
  20. All 3 calibres are good for what you want buddy. I had a .223 for years and was happy with it. Recently dedicated a rifle to NV but went for a .243. If I had the choice of the three you have given I would go .22-.250. Personal preference.
