  1. Good work gents Headed out saturday night as the farmer said there were a few about and most of the grass was a height where I could shoot...that was kind of true but the foxes seemed to be in the part where the grass was about 3 foot high It was a full moon which didnt help. There are a couple of patches of woodland that normally hold litters of cubs so I headed to the first and spotted a fox heading towards me down the track so set the sticks up. The cub stopped at about 60 yards and no 1 was down. Headed to the side of the wood and saw 2 more in the thermal. These were in some long grass so a bit of patience and no 2 was down...no 3 disappeared. A bot more waiting and faffing about and then I heard the vixen making a racket the far side of the farm....waded through 3 foot of wet grass to get there and she appeared the far side of the field in long grass so no shot....she then headed about 200 yards and carried on screaming her head off...headed to try and intercept her and saw a cub next to the other 2 so cub no 3 dropped. At this point it was coming up to 2 so I headed home. Hopefully once the grass is cleared on the bit where I want to shoot It should be a liitle easier lol
  2. Scared the poop out of me thats for sure. I found half of the front section but never the other half....The ironic thing was that this one replaced one that had flame eroded and collapsed...just as a bullet was going through it...I was starting to dislike sound mods at this point but no issues since then (touch wood).
  3. Faulty mods burst during normal use. I had one disintegrate when I sent a 58 Grain .243 round down it...my hearing knew about it for a few days. Im not going to name and shame as the company sorted things out really well but it wasnt much fun. Killed the fox I was shooting out so not due to misalignment or bullet strike, just the result of pressure and some defect in the mod. The mod was less then 4 months old and hadnt been used much. I have a triton 50 mod at the moment. The base is proofed for .338 and the baffle section for .243..
  4. Cracking job Ed. Thats an impressive garden your parents have
  5. Yeah yeah... ..very true about the discs, you definitely get what you pay for.
  6. 42 mixed corvids this morning before work I didnt encounter any vulgar Northern midgets either which is always a bonus in the early hours of the morning . The pigs seemed a little confused to be fed at 3.30 rather then 7.00 but still came out and were demolishing their feed as I left....best get on with some work lol
  7. True...but at least im tall and ugly rather than an ugly midget ...like some...and yes you are included
  8. Thats a bit personal really isnt it boys It may be true but is still upsetting.......
  9. You bunch of jessies Its far to early for me as well really but about the only way I can fit shooting around work and mansion renovation. I need to get out with the rifle as well....tomorrow morning on crows and sat night with the rifle...gives me alternative nights with sod all sleep
  10. I am a fan of makita stuff as well, does the job nicely.
  11. Cheers bud. One of the farmers called me before complaining about all the crows...looks like a couple of stints before work. At least with it being light at 4 I can shoot for 3 1/2 hours and then head to work which is 5 mins from the farm and still be in for 8...who needs sleep lol
  12. After a couple of hours removing brickwork and some lintels at the mansion I decided it would be nice to head out and see what this fox shooting lark is all about I headed over to a 400 acre farm who cleared the silage a few days ago. I havent been here for a while so knew there should be a few about. Spot 1 - called for a bit with no luck. Last check before I left and there was a fox heading in from 1/2 mile away. Got back to a sensible spot and ambushed it when it popped through the fence. Cub no 1 down Spot 2- I left 43 tasty corvids in a couple of patches of rough ground so knew they would attract some interest. I spotted a fox heading in so got ready on the sticks...bloody sheep everywhere so not shot ..another 4 feet and a safe shot would have presented but about 1 foot away and the fox winded me and hurtled off across the field Spot 3- quick call and a head appears over the brow of the hill, the fox reappears about 120 yards away and falls to a chest shot off the sticks, adult dog. The field full of young cattle next to me then stampede about for 10 minutes frightening everything away. I spot 2 more foxes here but no shot and cant get them to a shootable position. Spot 4- Spot a cub in the next field but awkward spot so a 100 yard change in position set me up for a shot...mr badger at this point has chased the cub out of site and then the vixen starts calling in the wood. Just before the cub disappears he stops and drops at about 140 yards. After about 2 minutes a second cub appears and drops about 3 feet from its sibling. 4 down, about 10 seen but at 1.30 time for home. I ll be back out there in the next few days as there are at least 3 sets of cubs.
  13. Cheers for the info. To be fair I dont supervise unlicensed shooters. My "supervision" is of licence holders with a mentoring condition.
  14. Not in all cases. Ironically I havent given myself permission in writing to shoot on my own ground...but its only 28 acres. Not sure where the info I posted went... Try page 40 section 6.21 of the below item https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms-law-guidance-to-the-police-201
  15. As below : I hold an open licence and plenty of people have been out in my company and used my rifles. In this respect I have been a "servant" of the occupier in that I have their permission to be on their ground. I have detailed this in the letter I have sent to the Firearms officer when "signing off" peoples mentoring conditions and the FEO has never contacted me to say I am factually incorrect with ref to section 16(1).
  16. Well done mate Nicely done Mark, excellent result No foxing for me but managed to get out with the shotgun for a couple of hours on Saturday morning. 4.00-7.00 and 43 mixed corvids for my efforts so not bad. Managed a full day of DIY on the mansion as well so not bad
  17. Go for the SAK on the HMR mate. I have these fitted to my two .17hmrs. I have a PES T12 on one .243 and a aimsport Triton 50 on the other .243. I think the PES is better from a balance and SNR perspective but there are a lot of decent centerfire mods out there.
  18. He can sleep in the pig pen, they have a nicer house then us...but the little blighters bite
  19. Your more then welcome as always buddy...just bring a tent as the house isnt habitable...particularly lol
  20. I dont think that head shooting a bunny would make a lot of difference with that cannon
  21. I bet Mark will be crying like a little girl when he sees all the abuse
  22. Wish we had some deer...only sheep but I digress
