Aye don't think I will bother now til moons gone back.

I've had good results on a few full moons before but only when tucked up or a long way off..this time was a waste of time.

    🤣🤣

Had phone call today from farmer who lost some hens so had a look tonight even though full moon and frosty, wasn't hopeful but did call 2 but both sat in woods looking at me with no shot on , neither would call from the wood.

Typical lol. I saw 3 last night but it may as well have been daylight so I had no chance of a shot......

I wish m8 , no seriously we do not have the numbers up North like down South. I envy the southern boys who have an endless supply like Essex, Kent , Cornwall, Wales etc....

Most of them are RSPCA sponsored tame foxes though mate. Ed gets his monies worth from his membership

No point in having thermal m8 as no foxes up here to speak of, although did call one in last night under the bright moon , screamed in from behind but was coming downwind to caller and winded me and scarpered quick 😡 hope you have some success over the weekend 👍

LOL, you shoot them all thats why theres nowt about  The weather here was vile so no chance to get out. Heading out tonight to see whats what.

🤣🤣 I remember the days when I started lamping , connecting a car lamp to a lead acid battery. My trousers and Barbour jacket had plenty holes due to the acid from the battery. Then progressed to a lazerlite lamp with red filter , the dogs danglies. Then came the Lightforce with amber filter ,brilliant and now led torches. Still cant bring myself to thermal unless I win the lottery and get a pulsar thermion 🤪

👍at least you got a couple dude 🦊🦊

Cheers Mark. Nice to have time to get out..finally. Hoping I can get out again over the weekend.

Thermal is rubbish mate, waste of money and doesnt help...honest  stick with the lamp mate, much better.

  6. Out last night...a bit of a farce as I havent been out for a while lol.

Got to the chicken sheds and the one that normally has visitors was lit up like a football pitch..fortunately the farmer turned up to turn the lights off after about 5 mins. Within 10 seconds of him driving off a fox appears the far side of the fence. I get the rifle set up and the battery in the external IR is flat...the internal ir is rubbish so I have to wait for the very grainy looking fox to come close enough for a shot...down he goes so a good start. Good size dog fox.

I headed off to the far side of the farm, look back through the thermal and there is another fox coming out of the pen next to my truck...cheeky sod. I got set up as I had a fair idea the fox would follow the bank down into the field I was in and head for the pool. After watching it approach and getting close enough for another poor image shot....I missed. The fox hurtled towards me, must have sensed I was there when it was about 10 foot away, turned and legged it back across the field, stopped and caught a .243 round in the side of the neck....phew, adult vixen who I have been after for a while. I then realised that my ammo pouch was back at home....so thought I better go home to bed before I saw anything else that I couldnt see through the scope lol

Farmer is happy especially as the local hunt went through on the weekend...what a fine job they do ...not

  7. Lol...cheers boys.

The mansion is getting worse at the moment so thats something else that is taking up even more time.

Condensation in the loft so it rains some nights....sorting out vapour barriers , additional ventilation and more insulation this weekend. We now have to clad a load of the house as the water is getting through the walls (penetrating damp)...should have purchased a new build bungalow

  8. Good work gents...Sorry I am still alive lol. Work has been mental and away a lot over the last few months. Hoping it will calm down and with the rain forecast to stop I am hoping to get out over the next few days and see if I can remember what shooting is all about

Say what.. Any round is deadly, what do most of us use them for... Pest control.

The 'restricted / open' conditions are not worth the paper they are written on. Its a completely useless setup.

I am cleared on a mates land up to 308. He has been shooting years and has an open ticket, if his land was cleared for 243 on my ticket, he could still use a 308 on that very same land under an open ticket... So police says its safe for me at 243 yet an open ticket can use what they feel is safe, even if in fact its not.

Sorry mate, that was very tongue in cheek hence the comment. It highlights the stupidity of it all. Must put  next time  lol

I’ve never known anyone who has had a mentoring ‘condition’ on their ticket ....now I think of it I haven’t met anyone who has been mentored either. There is some truly farcical and illogical legislation regarding firearms in the UK.
It isn’t surprising to find much of it is ignored at times.

I have been a mentor for a few people. As time goes on I am less and less inclined to be one. It tends to be imposed for CF only so they can go out with a .17 HMR that is a totally safe and harmless round on their own and then I have to go with them for using a .223 for example. When I am happy that they are safe I tell the police and they remove the condition. If the legislation gets any more complicated nobody is going to want to be a mentor.

I agree with a number of your points and my general feeling is that the police should either grant a FAC or not. I moved from a .223 to a .270 and they were a little bit funny about this until I pointed out that both are pretty lethal if you make a mistake. FEOs dont seem to understand logic at times.

1 is always a good result. Sick of all the rain we've had , no playing at weekend.

Cheers bud. Fed up with it as well mate. Ironic as the mansion had a moat  ..not one that we wanted and one that took a few hours of digging to make it a stream instead lol.  The fields are so wet I cant take my truck out to feed the bees so have to lug syrup back and forth ...and generally in the rain as well.

  12. Back out last night. Lots of time spent spotting but not seeing anything. Spotted a couple of thermal signatures a long way off but couldnt make them out due to cover etc. About 20 minutes later a fox appears on the edge of the pen and went straight under the fence. There were 10-12 birds out and it headed straight towards the first of them ..made it about 5 yards before it met a 58 grain round in the chest. I waited 30 minutes to see if the other was going to follow...and its didnt. Went and picked the fox up and back out of the pen. Checked back with the thermal and fox 2 was heading into the pen.....No shot from where I was so legged it up the bank only to see the fox disappear.....20 mins later the fox appears and I watch it with the crosshairs on its head but cant take the shot as there is no safe backstop...it looks in my direction and then legs it. To cut a long story short there lots of faffing and muddy legs to get a shot..as well as moving 4 times as its going through a wood and along the ridge....finally stops but I can only see part of it and off it goes on its merry way ....oh well at least I got 1 lol

Managed to get out last night. First farm had me playing cat and mouse with a fox. Managed to bring him in but trotted in front of house. Carried on watching it as it moved out of field slowly not presenting a safe shot once😡

Next plot shot a few rabbits that I had been asked to. Then picked up a fox in next field. A quick manoeuvre no calling and a good sized dog fox down.

Next farm saw a really big old dog fox come in from a good distance to the call. Pulled of a decent shot with little hmr to drop him at 120. Must say again how well the pard 008 has worked since getting it off rewolf.

    Nicely done mate.

I played watch the fox with no safe shot then watch the fox run off and not present a shot....wary old vixen that is going to take a bit of time and luck to get.

I remember one night m8 I lay down in a cowpat and was covered in **** and it was raining , when I got home the wife had to hose me down. Got the fox though 😄

 done that a few times myself. I was forced to strip off in the garage once before I was let in the house ..managed not to scare any of the neighbors though  to be fair they would need pretty good eye sight :lol:

  16. ...break in the weather Sunday night...quick diversion as 1 road was shut due to a land slide. The river at the farm was about 40 feet wider then usual and the duck pond was about 2 acres bigger. All quiet until I could hear the ducks kicking off. Now the usual route the foxes take would have required a raft so I headed off to have a look. Muddy wade across the field and as I got to the top of the bank I spotted the fox heading back to where I had just come from. It must have had some wet paws as it was wading through some water. I managed to get set up on the top of the bank..lay down in the mud and realised I wasnt over the crest of the bank as all I could see was grass.... By the time I got up and checked the fox had made 200 metres and was gone....muddy and nothing to show for it  Off home...must try and not be a numpty next time
