  1. Pretty good advice thus far and the usual differing opinions. I have a dedicated NV rifle in .243 that is my "go to gun" for foxes (or I use the .270 during daylight hours). However I also have 2 .17 hmr rifles and have shot a number of foxes generally opting for a head shot at sensible ranges (up to 70-80 yards or so). As usual it is just making 100% sure you are confident of a good, clean and quick kill. If you are not leave them for another day.
  2. Go for the non ridged crisps and let them soften in your mouth first, that should help
  3. Roe doe with prominent anal tush. Carry on and tick all of the alternate options and let us know when you get the correct one. I ll laugh if it is a male red deer.
  4. ...and so the debate starts...Just preference in my case as I have had better results with 32 gram 5s and 6s on the crows and not as good results with 32 gram 7s. Just my opinion which fortunately (as its an opinion) cant be wrong
  5. Plenty of people would not agree with you motty. I think there are a lot of people (myself included) who would not use anything other then 30 or 32 grams of 5 or 6. However given the amount of shooting and success you have a mere mortal like myself would not want to criticise..
  6. Nothing worse then the "they are everywhere" comments to find that indeed they are everywhere else and not on the ground you shoot. Have to take the rough with the smooth sometimes to keep people happy. I am sure the farmer appreciates you efforts.
  7. Not inclined to agree with your comments ref cleaning after every use snow white. I do not clean the rifle barrel after every outing. This applies to the 2 .17hmrs, .243 and .270 I own an these are all in excellent condition. In fact my .17s shoot better when they have had a few rounds put down them. I do give them a good clean after an amount of use depending upon how many rounds I have put through them and how they look. Just my opinion and that of a fair few guys I know but I am sure many will follow your method. With regards to accidentally having a loaded gun when you shouldnt, in my opinion there is no excuse for this. The consequences are to extreme.
  8. Well done mate, nicely done.
  9. I would hate to see the size of a firearm cert if they had to add all of that detail into a condition to shoot a fox with a .22 lr.
  10. Good man. If you are ever in the Welshpool area let me know and you can come out with me if you want.
  11. Its totally **** mate and I was sorry to hear this. Keep persevering mate, you will get there.
  12. Cheers mike69. Us shooters need to stick together.
  13. I have heard talk of the FLO not being the "nicest of people". To be fair ultimately as they are the licencing force most of what they say has to go as you have rightly said. Durham work on the same basis of not allowing .22Lr for foxes whereas Dyfed Powys dont seem so concerned. Lack of uniformity as usual.
  14. Not sure how far you are prepared to travel but I live just outside Welshpool and would happily take you out. I have a .243 and a .270. PM me if this is of any help.
  15. Interesting reading both sides of the arguments. It is frustrating not being able to get a foot in the door. Once you finally do get a permission it allows you to name drop which helps a lot. Nurseries (of the plant type) are a ****** from both the owner and the shooters side of things. One of my permissions is a nursery of around 200 acres split over 4 plots. Lots of rows of trees, millions of pots, lots of watering equip, green houses etc etc. The boss has to balance the need to control the rabbits and hares with the risk of damage and adverse views by controlling pest numbers. Fortunately I have been shooting on the farm next door for the last 9 years so I was able to name drop and that made life a lot easier. All I can say is keep at it. Once you crack the first "nut" and get a permission it should get easier from there onwards. Good luck buddy.
  16. Well done JDog- good shooting as usual.
  17. I would more then happily come and help you out as I have a nice .270 (no comments about .270 not being a nice calibre please PW) which should do the job. I am absolutely stunned that people would not take you up on such an offer...unreal.
  18. Where was the photo taken as this may help make an educated guess.?
  19. I am sure you would have plenty of willing volunteers if you wanted a hand with those pesky boar.
