  1. Good going mate, well done. Happy shooter and happy farmer, cant get much better then that.
  2. Glad that no more harm was done..not a nice story. I have had issues with both Hornady and Remi ammo (1 in each case). Pulled the trigger- click, unloaded the rifle and checked the case which was still full of powder and no bullet. Bolt out and mod off to see no light down the barrel. Fortunately the bullet had not made its way down the barrel so I was able to get it out with the cleaning rod. Since I had this twice I now dont go out with the .17 hmr without a cleaning rod in case it happens again.
  3. I was wondering if it was that annoyed woodpecker that the weasel hitched a lift on getting its own back
  4. At least he has gone for the healthy option and isnt growing white bread
  5. To be fair they are not the brightest of animals. I have often found sheep stuck in the brambles and unable to get out until you walk up to them and then they are able to get out. I have often seen this when they are on their backs and seem unable to get up. Though to be fair I have had to roll a few back onto their feet over the years. I have seen a few ewes with one or both eyes missing due to corvids...not nice at all.
  6. Nice going mate. Nice looking piece of kit as well.
  7. If it is cold you will get reduced capacity, if the battery is old and has been cycled a lot to a deep depth of discharge before recharge you will get reduced capacity. As mentioned these batteries are cheap and therefore have a limited lifespan.
  8. Wish I could have 410 in a day but alas I just keep plugging away. I have had a couple of 50+ days which is good enough for me.
  9. Come on gents lets not be picky as I am sure the term "crow" is used in the generic sense. I have a small area of woodland on one of my permissions that has a fair few hundred jackdaws and they are always noisy at night. I am roost shooting them once every week or two so their numbers are coming down little by little. The farmer hates "crows" he makes no distinction between Carrion Crows, Rooks or Jackdaws. I have had 410 in the last 4 months so he is happy (a mix of crows, rooks and Jackdaws)
  10. At least you didnt shoot it with a .22 as that would really cause some trouble
  11. I hope that he was not hitching a lift on the back of a woodpecker
  12. In my opinion if the fox has already been disturbed you will probably struggle to get it to come in to a call. The minute a fox associates a certain call with danger you are never going to be able to call it in again making despatching them with a rifle at a later date more problematic. May be a case of changing the position and spacing of the guns to give you a better chance of shooting whatever comes past.
  13. The woodpecker doesnt look overly impressed by the hitch hiker but what a stunning photo.
  14. You probably got through to Police HQ in Carmarthen who seem reluctant to give out numbers if they can avoid it (in my experience). I hate to say it but just a case of waiting. Both my certs were a week from expiring before I got a call (after a fair few calls and e-mails from myself). Fortunately the PC who came and saw me was spot on and I got my certs back just before expiry. However this was 4 months after putting the renewal in. Keep hassling them every couple of weeks and let us know how you get on.
  15. If you fancy a trip to Mid Wales I'll happily take you out but I fear this may be a little to far for you mate.
  16. Well done buddy, good news. Now the fun (and expense) begins.
  17. +1. If you have a lead that will go from the unit to a USB you can plug straight into a laptop which makes life easy. As long as you use the same naming convention e.g 001 Vixen call mating time.fxp the names will show on the handset. Recently did this when downloading a vixen call and it worked a treat.
  18. Gaz where abouts do you live mate? If North Powys to FEO is from Berriew and works out of Newtown.
  19. Wow, fantastic shooting as usual. Jealous as ever.
  20. Controversial title Underdog (as we have come to love and expect) Well done on the job front and well done for your actions with the deer.
  21. A sad tale indeed. It still disgusts me how vindictive some people are. Jut to lighten the mood and in similar vane to fieldcrafts last post one farm where I shoot has a small parking area 50 yards or so from a country lane where the farmer normally leaves a slurry tanker. A family parked up and started having a little picnic. Amusingly they obviously didnt know what a crow scarer was and must have wasted some good food and drink when it went off and scared the living daylights out of them.
  22. I have a Howa 1500 in .243, laminate thumbhole stock, varmint barrel, Sonic 45 mod and a N750A NV scope. I cant really fault the rifle and have had good results. The only downside is the weight as I am of slight build and most of my ground requires a long old walk to cover it However the fact it handles well makes up for this.
