  1. Now what were you doing with the magical hand Ed...I hope Grant wasnt anywhere near
  2. Good luck mate. Weather here has been vile so looks like evenings will be spent with wiring and plasterboarding. The mansion is so plush that we now need to wash up in the bath and have to take the shower out on the weekend to make the utility room bigger.....I love being lord of the manor
  3. Very true mate. No 3 was chewing on a sheeps ear ..fair play he was trying to get it off the sheeps head with some fair force (sheep was dead by the way lol). A 58 grain in the forehead stopped him. Looks like your fears of no foxes has disappeared. Keep up the good work.
  4. Very true mate lol. I think thermal is great and makes life a lot easier with tricky foxes. However I do prefer getting out with the lamp (though I still take the rifle with the NV). There was no pressure on this farm as the foxes dont cause any harm until March/April. I always like to make a start at this time of the year to give me a good head start.
  5. Good job Mark. Managed 3 on Saturday night . 2 dogs and a vixen. Left the thermal and went old school with the lamp...Not as efficient as the thermal but more fun. I had to laugh as I spotted some eye shine, over to the NV and there was a pair of badgers, I watched them for about 10 seconds and a fox popped out in between them . The nearest badger certainly shifted when I put a round in the side of the fox I reckon he broke the 10 second mark for a 100 metre dash, the furthest badger didnt seem bothered by proceedings. Farmer will be happy ..when he comes back of holiday and I can tell him.
  6. Get on fox club mate. Only sensible posts on there...lol...well lots of abuse but people who amazingly...shoot foxes . First rule of Fox club.... I remember that as well, good to see but I bet a lot of people were ranting about the horrible man killing fluffy foxes. I caught a bit about foxes on the one show last night whilst I was waiting for some sensible TV, aimed very much at people who dont venture into the countryside much lol
  7. 300 acres of cleared grass so out last night. Pretty quiet as expected, but one must have followed me across the field so only picked her up when I did the final check before heading onto the next field. Set the sticks up and squeaked her in then she got spooked and legged it across the field before a last look and 58 grain .243 put her on the deck. Nice vixen but not a nice photo due to some extensive bullet damage.
  8. nice when shooting and the social life fit together.
  9. Lovely night to be out last night apart from being so calm you could hear a pin drop. The one fox I spotted from 600 yards away decided that i was to noisy negotiating a fence so legged it before I could get a shot and that was that lol
  10. What was she shot with and what sort of range? Nice to see a new face...especially given the looks of most of the usual mottly crew
  11. Back out again last night despite the full moon. Arrived at the chicken farm and a short walk later I saw a fox heading straight for the first pens....no shot so I had a very brisk walk back down to a spot I could watch the pens...30 minutes later and no sign so I headed off to see if I could find the fox...no luck so not sure if it had seen or winded me. I could hear the ducks kicking off on the pool so pretty sure there was a fox there. Headed over to a bank looking over the pool and the fox was sat looking at the ducks. 150 yard shot dropped the fox in the reeds. It would have been a 3/4 mile walk to go and get it so I left it where it was ...a dead fox is a dead fox so I was happy Headed to a second farm down the road on my way home. Pretty quiet so last call before heading home and the thermal picked up a heat signature tearing towards me out of the wood. Lay down and set the rifle up....fox about 60 yards away so had to shout to stop it. To be fair the angle and bullet placement made such a shocking mess of the fox I cant post the pic...I couldnt even tell whether it was a dog or vixen but it was extremely dead. Farmer is happy as they are putting a new chicken shed about 50 yards from where this one was shot. I have asked if he can stop free range and keep them shut in
  12. Headed out Sat night and for once I didnt see anything at the chicken farm...which is a shame as I know there are at least a couple left. Headed over to another farm and covered the bulk of the ground with no luck. Over to the far side of the road and the last couple of the fields and there was a fox and 2 badgers. The field is pretty flat so a bit of calling got some interest and moved the fox to a sensible point. I had to laugh as the fox and badger got a bit close and the badger sent the fox legging it out of the way Fox finally came to about 70 yards and dropped to a chest shot off the sticks. At the top of the field I stopped for a final luck and there was some rustling in the nettles about 3 feet away...out pops a hedgehog lol...watched it for a couple of minutes until it headed off. I love seeing hedgehogs...hopefully the badgers will leave it alone.
  13. Nice one Mark Good bag of bunnies there Ed, nicely done.
  14. Its more of an age thing rather than the amount of foxes hes shot Given your height Mark wouldnt a bipod have been as much use
  15. ...out Monday night and a night of frustration really. Arrived and parked up, quick scan revealed 2 foxes the far side of the road and one about 70 yards away on top of the bank. The fox disappeared and then reappeared in thick cover ..I could see it with the thermal but no chance with the NV. After about 30 minutes a badger arrived and the fox disappeared. Lots more walking about and not being able to take a shot at anything....so one final check on another patch and there was one heading out of the wood . By this point I was getting royally fed up with my evenings pursuits but managed to drop the fox at about the 230 yard mark. Due to the calves in the field I left it where it was as told the farmer to go and get it (which he wont). Another down and a fair few more to go. Over the last 10 visits I have always seen 1 and generally 3 or 4. 8 cubs and 3 adults down doesnt seem to be making much of an impact.
  16. Dont blame you bud..wish I was..knackered at the mo. Im going to set up in a different position and try and get a good view of the 2 sheds...problem is there is a house behind and when they pull in it lights the area up a bit. I would set up in the field that looks onto the sheds but the calves run riot when anything goes in the field..including me lol. ... Its a shame that I cant watch all 3 sheds at the same time but I would need a tower about 90 foot tall for that.....no chance. Have a nice relaxing evening mate
  17. Nicely done Mark. Had 3 hours on Sat night...saw 3 but no safe shot on any of them...then as I was leaving spied one at about 250 ish yards...not enough hold over and missed...not a good night ..back out tonight as lots of chicken killing going on. Anything that doesnt get into the shed in time is dead by the morning.
  18. I think we have missed one key fact....we dont have electricity in wales so what is a light switch.....Is that a candle snuffer
  19. Agree with the 2 educated gents above. Depends entirely on the fox. Some come charging in, others run the opposite way. Mating calls work well in Late Dec-March, distress calls are very hit and miss. I have laughed at how some of the calls sound until I have foxes come in from 400 yards away. I have also had cases where I have tried most of the calls to get a fox within range to no avail and had to resort to the Mk1 hand caller. Problem is it gets cold and is awful to use once you pick a smelly vixen up with it Good luck
  20. Ugly looking horrible thing....fox looks cool though
