  1. Thanks for that. I don't feel so much of a freak now. I felt I may have to crawl into the corner of a room to be poked by nervous people with long sticks. Si
  2. Thanks Trev To be honest I was just about to go to get my coat on so I check it out. My friend has a similar s/s (dimension-wise) but has an extra inch on the stock and which I shoot so much better with and feel much more comfortable when mounting. I may go for 15" with mine to allow for the jumpers and coat etc. I am in the middle of replacing the mainspring in my AYA so can't assemble it to test it out so I will have to wait until the spring arrives. Ps I do have long arms. Si
  3. I am in the process of extending my AYA number 4 stock length. Currently it is 14 1/4" but I feel this is cramped for my long arms. I think that 14" seems around the average. I decided to play around to see what felt best with stock length. Approx 15 1/4" feels a nice fit. The extention is being done by a skilled friend and will be permanent so want to get it as comfy as possible. Just looking around on guntrader etc tells me that this is an unusual length - just out of interest does anyone else use a LOP in excess of 15" (especially s/s guns)? Thanks Si
  4. Thanks mate. Is it a difficult job to open her up? I have opened it up so I could clean the trigger unit but have not taken the boxlock section off. Are things likely to pop out? Cheers Si
  5. Certainly sounds like it could be! What did the primers look like on the cartridges that failed to fire? Did the strike look weak (very shallow dent)? Yeah - shallow dent. I held the gun upside down as advised to see if the pin was broken but it didn't pop out.
  6. Hey guys Was out shooting some clays with a friend this afternoon when I noticed the left barrel had a couple of mis-fires. This happened with a few different types of cartridge too. The firing pin looks ok and doesn't drop forward when the gun is tipped down - which is what I was told to indentify if the pin was broken. Can anyone advise me on what may be the problem. Ps when I push the left pin firmyl - I can move it back into the casing and can't move the right side pin at all. Could this mean a weak spring? Thanks Si
  7. Back on sale guys. I can post to your local RFD if your interested. Si
  8. I am starting to get used to the number 4 AYA now (after shooting a Beretta semi since I started 4 months ago). I bagged my first pair with the gun. I only shot 5 pigeon in total (there wasn't much around) but that pair made my day. As for my worry about the chokes being 'too open' - not now! The pair I shot were flying from left to right over the top of the decoys so i picked off the back one then pushed through and took the next. They didn't seem far although I knew the one in front was further away. The first one was 35m from me (I paced them) and the second was 50m! Both dropped like stones, so it has given me the confidence and belief that pattern placement is more important than worrying about chokes. Regards Si
  9. Thanks Trev. It was strange how I suddenly became aware of this when sitting in the house testing my new snap caps I suddenly thought that it was 'difficult' to close and the more I tried it the more obvious it felt. I had never noticed it when in the field So when the gun is opened after firing the gun is being cocked and on closing ejectors are re-set? That is why it is more difficult to close. Cheers Si
  10. Guys this could possibly be me being paranoid and not noticing the extra effort needed when cocking the gun in the field with all the adrenaline etc. In fact after a wee bit more use - I have answered my own thread - I was paranoid and it is fine!!!! Regards Si
  11. Hey guys I have just been playing around with my new snap caps in my AYA s/s. After ejection the gun is very difficult to close. Being no expert I am presuming it is the ejector system because when it is closed - it can be re-opened and closed easily (with the ejectors set). Has anyone experienced anything similar? I am contemplating taking the fore end section apart to see what is jamming on ejector re-setting but I am working blind at the moment with no prior knowledge of s/s internals. Any advice much appreciated now. Thanks Si
  12. You lucky dude! I went shooting early this morning on my local rape field. Shot 7 and missed 4. That was it. Wish I could have one of those 'busy' days. All the best and keep up the good work! Si
  13. Thanks guys. Will try the earlier start. My girlfriend can get the bus. I am shooting with SG normally but took the rifle last time so I could pick them out the trees discreetly. The copse is both good and bad I feel. Good for giving the pigeons a landing and flightline but bad in the fact I am limited to where I can position the decoys for good view for the pigeon. The wind is predominantly SW/W and that lead to the wind in my face, back to the copse to get a safe shot. Not too good. I am going to try the other side of the field where they sometimes fly over so i can optimise my postion and decoy visibility. Cheers all Si
  14. Hey guys I am finding what other are in that I arrive at my shootam about 10.30 to find 500 pigeon grazing on the Rape. I either scare them on approach or get one shot off and they all fly. This is to be expected, but they don't return. Maybe one or 2 fly in at odd times but the flock goes into another field. Is it bad to shoot the same field a few days out of a week? After mid day they seem to decrease in numbers and then nothing after 1 or 2pm. Also they don't seem to interested in my decoys because I am shooting from a copse of trees near the edge of the field where it is safest but they seem to either see them too late or fly over into the trees above or fly on the the next trees. The farmr has given me some pigeon scarers to leave in his other field. Help appreciated because I am really struggling to shoot more than 5. I fact I shot the 5 with my air rifle from the trees! I had no prob over the stubble in summer At least I am a free 'bird scarer' for the farmer! Regards Si
  15. It is a new gun at £650 in Gilsan Sports, Richmond. Si
  16. Thanks for all you advice and nicely rounded off Tony. All the best in the new year and good shooting. Si
  17. HI MATE I HAVE THE X2 AND USE THIS FOR WILDFOWLING AND ANYTHING THIS GUN HAS NOT LET ME DOWN AND WILL HANDLE 3 AND HALF INCH LOADS NO PROBS.GUN HAS NOT JAMMED ONCE AND RECOIL IS LOW Cheers dude! They look fab. Great price too. Si
  18. Just been checking out the X3 by Winchester. It looks like a sweet bit of kit. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of how it handles and cycles etc? I could have put it on my xmas list from Mummy if I'd known how beautiful it was. Si
  19. Good idea - I will take it through. I used the choke key on it as I thought the bores would be the same size my other 12 bore and never considered the choke relative to the bore diameter. Cheers mate Si
  20. Thanks mate. Your advice is appreciated. I was just concerned that dropping 2 choke sizes would really restrict my range. Si
  21. Hey guys Just bought myself a nice s/s. The chokes were suposed to be 1/2 and full but the previous owner has had them bored out to cylinder and 1/4. I didn't realise until after the sale when I checked them with my choke key. Do these sized chokes have their place? I do alot of pigeon shooting but have not been doing it long. I have been using a Beretta semi with 1/2 choke to good effect and am a little concerned I may struggle on the longer shots just when I was getting the hang of it. Advice appreciated. Si
  22. After shooting a few times with my s/s AYA I have decided that I can shoot well with it and will let my Beretta semi auto go, I hesitated before due to struggling with the s/s and I shoot so well with the Beretta!! Here it is: (definately for sale this time! ) Beretta A303, 28" barrel, multi chokes (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full inc), Excellent condition with little use for its age (approx 17 years old) Spotless bore. £325 Feel free to ask questions Regards Si
  23. Anyone tried the above scope? Wondered how good it was in low light considering the huge objective lens? Also clarity at full mag? Cheers Si
  24. Sound like it may be the one for the job! Cheers for the info. Ps how much did you pay for yours? I have seen it for £110 I think. Si
