Had loads of O/U's over the years and whilst I do like a nice O/U (or even SxS) I've always found semi autos to have more utility and have just always taken to them so much better. My Browning Gold fits me like a glove and I shoot with it far better than any other non semi-auto gun I've used. Dunno what it is about it but I've got a spare Browning Gold exactly the same just in case!

Aye I use longjohns. I do have some nice heated touring trousers and jacket but would need to upgrade stator on this 650 first... I do have a 200w sator knocking around as been meaning to get a beefy LED lamp on it, least then I can plug my heated jacket and trousers in and won't be so much of a problem. Or just wait till next summer 😆 But yeah bike is great for mobility around the farm.

Is about 20-30 mins of flat out moderate to intense cardio I find. I normally do 40 mins on the cross trainer on one of those interval settings and that's usually about 450 / 500 cals. managed to do 900 in an hour once but that was pure flat out and never managed it again lol

Pretty depressing. Used to do a lot of tractor work and let myself go. Dunno how really but ended up well over 20 stone. Not exactly sure how much but pretty sure when I converted from KG the last time the dr's weighed me it worked out about 23. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that that's pretty outrageous so decided to do something about it. Went hell for leather for a year and a half and got my **** down to about 14.5 stone. This was a couple years ago. Felt bloody amazing. Started doing park runs and whatnot and couldn't believe that I was actually able to run and do sporty things again. Then I kinda just lost all enthusiasm for everything. (I'm quite an all or nothing kinda person). Ended up over 19 stone again when lockdown happened back in March. During lockdown started going on massive walks and got a Taurus crosstrainer (amazing bit of kit!). Smashed it and got down to 15 stone again and was buzzing. Now back up to just over 18 stone again 🙄 I'm a bloody yoyo. Trying to lose a stone before christmas again as am easily gonna put a stone on over this month lol. Just wish I could stick at it. Target goal is 13 stone Would really love to start doing some park runs again next year. Never felt as amazing when when I started doing those.

Right so. Actually used my brain for once... Had a word with the farmer and asked if he had a couple of barrels or anything I could use for storage knocking about and if so could he drop down to a couple of places where I would be shooting which he did. I then used the missus car (after promising her I won't take it off road a million times 😆) and made a stash at both sites each with some basic tools, pruning saw, shovel, cable ties, poles, netting, decoys and folding seats etc. So now all I have to do is load up a medium sized bergen with my gun broken down, some munchies, cartridges etc and hop on the bike. Both of the stashes are pretty close to where I will mostly be shooting so don't have to trapse far to get everything set up 👍 It's a bit of a nightmare at night though as light on my bike isn't too great and the tractors and telehandlers have really been makin a good old soup up on the pig fields but it's all good fun Just get moaned at for coming home covered in mud and stinky pig mud 🙄 Mostly been going down in evening on the rats with air rifle although it's been getting down to freezing figures this last week or so... Not sure if I'll be finding the enthusiasm for it again until spring lol... Forgot how bloody cold it is riding bikes this time of year. hey ho. Gotta **** with the cock ya got.

Maybe I'm just trying to make life difficult for myself, but then I've always been pig headed and stubborn like that 😁 Some of the land I will be shooting over crops is bordered by trees so yeah I can use my foldable pruning saw to make some hides up along the field margins. I had not actually thought of that 👍 Some of the other land will be more difficult, especially around the pigs as most of those fields are pretty open although there are the odd hay bale stacks dotted around I could use to make some cover against. (I will be using a hushpower for shooting around the pigs in case anyone was wondering) Or if all else fails there is the ultimate backup option, get one of those off-road trolleys with big chunky flotation tyres and park up in the mrs car somewhere and pull a trolley with all my stuff down to where I need to go... Not really enthusiastic about this option tho. I have another set of rims with fat knobblies. Those are just my pavement smashers. I normally ride in boots anyways so that's not an issue. Will have to see if theres a tank bag for MX/Enduro style tanks. Could be useful. Not so worried about coming off really. I've ridden loaded enduros and heavy adventure bikes (Africa Twin, Varadero, Triumph tiger, V strom etc) all over the world. Not saying it'll never happen but, been there done that. Be alreet. But that was my thinking for an atv style gun case. As long as the gun is alright then I'm happy. I do actually have a 200L bergen thinking about it now you mention bergens... Have to find it out. Anyone have any recommendations recomendations for extendable poles for a hide?

The main thing is what about the rest of the stuff? Was just wondering if anyones done it before what what stuff to use? Will need to be absolute bare minimum as will not be able to carry much stufff at all. What about hide, seat, bag for other stuff etc. Yeah sort of thing I'm after. Just also need to be able to find or make a hide that packs down super small into a small fishing bag or something

Trailer won't work, because my bike is a motocross/enduro it has no real rear subframe. The frame that is there is just for the rear mudguard. Would be difficult enough just to manage to figure out how to get a gun case fixed onto it. I have seen someone done it to one of these before though so it's definitely do-able.

Again, did think about getting a quad as seems like logical option as buying another 4x4 just for going shooting is a bit excessive - and impossible given current situation with parking. Annoyingly, I only have maybe 2.5 - 3 ft access down side of house, just enough to get bike in and out but that's it. Not much space out front either... And sell the XR! Never! She's a keeper

Last perm I had for a local keeper I just put everything in the his chest freezer. I neither have a chest freezer nor anyone that would want to take anything that I might be shooting. End of the day pest control/crop protection is a legitimate and justified reason for shooting and I've been after a perm for a while and could potentially lead to other opportunities - we all know how hard it is to get good perms these days! As for the Antis... Well, they're always gonna Anti. No matter what we do or don't. They will always find something. I just ignore em, best way.

Crop protection and keeping pests away from the pigs

So literally randomly and out of the blue today I've managed to get myself a perm on a bit of land that hasnt been shot in ages 🤑 Only thing is transport. It's fairly local but I don't have a 4x4 anymore and it's quite muddy down there. I have a XR650R though and was wondering if it would be viable to use for getting down there... Was thinking of sticking an ATV style guncase on the rear. Could use a fishing bag for some extendable poles and net for hide and could have a bag for carts and odds and ends. Just wondering if it's doable... If I end up shooting loads I dunno what I'll end up doing with then, maybe a foldable shovel and bury? Also won't have a seat 🤔 Only have space for one vehicle at our house now and Mrs not keen on car going off-road again since I tore the entire inner wheel arch out last time 👀 Just typical I finally get a perm and I can't get there 😭

Get sick of the constant scare stories touted by the gutter press about literally everything relating to smart meters. 99.99% of it is total BS. But yeah, I get it quite often "I'm only having it fitted to stop the letters and calls". What customers don't realise is the massive fines that energy companies face for not hitting the targets for the smart mandate. Not saying the constant bombardment is OK but... They'll be the first to be moaning when tariffs go up again because of the massive fines incurred. I've not had much in the way of issues with the SMETS 2 sets yet though. Occasional dead hubs and whatnot but that's about it. But with anything electronic, somethings bound to go wrong here and there. Although, going to be one or two issues with the L&G SMETS 2 PAYG meters losing connections. Hence why we're now going over to the EDMI's.

Up north in Arquiva areas it may be different but down in central UK regions that run on Telefonica the DCC system that SMETS 2 smart meters run on knows where there is signal or not and wether they will work or not or if special aerials are required and it's pretty accurate. The companies will know this when they book appointments as it will tell them if it's good to go. Also, SMETS 2 doesn't work on a traditional roaming mobile SIM's like the SMETS 1 sets did, it has it's own dedicated low frequency long distance band. I'm in rural Norfolk and there's not anywhere where I don't get a signal anymore.

I swear by Roots trousers. They have the kneeling pads fit in from the top which is handy as I found with snickers the pads usually end up working down your shins and out the bottom.

I have no issue with it as long as common sense prevails and for the most part it does. Although, I have seen some pretty borderline behaviour from people who definitely don't know their limits very well
