  1. If you have an old fishing rod, that you can cannibalise, you can make your own bouncer with a roll of tape and a wire hanger out of you wardrobe. first strip the eyes from the rod, next, untwist the hanger into a straight long length, fold it in half and tape it at the folded area tightly to the middle or end section of the fishing rod about 200mm from the thinner end. then using an empty cartridge case you wrap the loose ends individually around the cartridge 2 times. now you should have a Y shaped wire with the rod in the middle. you can bend the wires a bit. you take a dead bird and snap its wing bones to make them flexible, then pass the end of the rod up its vent, which is behind the legs and at the base of the tail. The Rod will pass all the way through the bird and you can push the head onto the end. finally use the loops on the end and clip them over the thick part or the wing front. push the rod into the ground at a slight angle. you can adjust the wire to give a wing set position, angel or lander. Some of the diy stores sell carbon rod 6mm thick which will work better but will cost a bit. sorted cheap bouncer. hope this helps, keep at it Flycoy
  2. Yeah, I second the thanks, really keen to see the day go ahead and meet a few of the PW family. Flycoy
  3. That's good coming from you, old boy !!
  4. Obviously guys that's up to you, but we discourage it on the intro days as there are many examples in our shotgun horror collection of when things go bad! really bad! we have one gun with the last six inches twisted beyond belief, wouldn't of done your head much good. best to unload the other gun and place it with you at the back of the hide while your mate shoots, too easy to get the red mist and swing through your mates position, especially with 3 in a hide. very experienced and long time hide sharers tend to learn what each other is doing but the risk is too high and mistakes are costly so I personally don't do it. stay safe Flycoy
  5. while working on the BASC coaching line at the CLA, a guy came up to me that I thought I recognised, shook my hand and told me he had been on this course with me. he said " I just wanted to thank you for your advice on the course, I opened up the gap between my decoys, like you suggested and have had the my best day yet decoying!". that's why Bakerboy and I run them, so get booked in and maybe we can help you too! 6. Managed to get a day arranged with a friend of mine on some rape stubble that I have been watching all week at lunchtime while I let the dogs have a run. I had been out on the same field on Tuesday night and worked hard for 20, but it was very windy and the birds were difficult to decoy. since then the birds have been moving along a brook course and cutting through the hedge into the corner of the field, that is partly planted with clover. we got to the field around 10 am as it seems to be an afternoon haunt for the local woody population, checked the wind and it was coming over the chosen hide position from the left hand rear. We set the hide up just past the change from clover to rape stubble in the hedge they had been cutting through with their flightline. This meant they would be coming in from our right with the wind in their faces as they crossed in front of us. We set up a tick shaped pattern, with plenty of room between decoys, with the killing zone around 25 metres in front and the tail of the tick running away to the right towards their field entry point. we used all flock coated decoys and a Chris Green Bouncer on the approach. I set up a flapper and my mate set up his Rotary, normally these don't work in my area and I haven't used one for maybe 4 years, but thought we could give it a go. I went off to move the truck and bumped into the farmer and his son repairing the release pen, as I was telling him where we were, bang! bang! 2 birds down already left and right for the rotary, great start!. when I got back to the hide Clive had already got them on the frame and battery connected. we shot alternatively with the other gun unloaded and safe and had a steady flow, we are both coaches so were talking about work and probably missed a few too many chances, with birds taking off as we realised they were there!!! We had to move the approaching bouncer, as the birds were going around the back side of it, just a few yards made the difference, the birds came past closer, we also moved the rotary as the birds were tending to hover over its centre so we repositioned it more in front of us, good to see an alteration make an instant change. some more shooters arrived and rang me to see where they could go, so I sent them to the only other rape stubble in the area as the farmer said there were a few on it, this helped by moving more birds in our direction. we finished at 3.30 and had 55 picked up by the Lab and 2 year old Cocker. we had used 76 cartridges and if we had forgot the safety in the hide and shot at the same time we would have had over the 100 let alone the ones we missed while talking! So a good day and a happy farmer. the other guys had 20 aswel. More crops cut this week, shoot straight and stay safe Flycoy
  7. Bakerboy has put a lot of work into getting this day at Marford Mill, if we have to cancel I would say logistically we will struggle to arrange the chance again. He has also worked to get the deals from A1 and Eley, Chris Green has also lent us some of his decoys to check out.( that's all I have sorted) here's hoping we get more takers! I will be there on the day with Bakerboy but he has done all the arranging, if it does get cancelled,,,, Thanks for your efforts Bakerboy! Flycoy
  8. Thanks all for bouncing post, Bakerboy and I will look at the numbers now and finalise the arrangements. Regards Flycoy
  9. Evening, most guns pattern differently, so pattern plate your auto on 1/2 and 3/4, with your favoured cartridge and see what's happening at 35 yrds you might be surprised what you find! Flycoy
  10. Marksman, Check out the firearms act ref Young Persons and Shotguns. also look into Section 11/5 and 11/6 its an eye opener. Like David from Basc said Tommy from NI office will help. Getting him a SGC would be a good start. we coach kids under 10 so providing your legal, teaching him the right things and he enjoys it, fine! get him to join BASC young shots program and book him into an intro day, clay shooting, air rifles, dog handling, falconry, pigeon decoying etc. Best of luck, Flycoy
  11. Boofy999, sounds like you have had some good days shooting and some good advice off the guys on PW, the reason we often miss the easiest of targets opposed to the long fast target is concentration and gun mount as Shooterluke mentioned. with going away or straight incomers you will often lift your head as you watch the bird above the gun, once your cheek lifts off you are looking down on the rib so you tilt the gun up and miss above the bird. if its a fast approaching bird the accidental extra lead will often help but most times they get by unscathed. concentrate each time you lift the gun, it is the same at the clay ground, you enter a stand that appears easy, you don't concentrate as you think you can easily hit 8 out of 8. you miss the first 3 then get your head down and concentrate and manage to hit 5 out of 8, Sound familiar?? hope this helps Flycoy
  12. As Bakerboy said 25 cartridges should be fine, I will have some spares with me if anybody runs short. we will coach you as you shoot, so it takes a while depending on how many are with us on the day. Flycoy
  13. Daz Don't know if you have sorted the problem, I coach at Kibworth, Market Harborough if you need help. Flycoy

  22. Hi All A Couple of years ago I lost a close friend and avid pigeon shooter to Melanoma Cancer, we have arranged a charity clay shoot at Kibworth SG Market Harborough, Leicester on the 11th June at 10 am, for around 50 people. I have 7 BASC coaches, including Bakerboy, giving their time and travel costs for free to help the shooters out as it is aimed at novices and occasional clay shooters, not trophy or prize hunting top clay shots. although we have had a lot of promises for people coming we have not sold the tickets locally that we thought we would. So, if any of you or your partners would like to come and have a go at the clays with some tuition from professional coaches, and get a gun fit check and eye dom etc off the guys while they are there. The tickets are £50 per person including 40 clays, cartridges and buffet lunch, should be a good day and raise some money. the SG are helping too with reduced rates and we will be having a raffle for some good prizes at the end of the day £5 a ticket. thanks for the space on here and hopefully I will get chance to put some faces to names. ATB Flycoy
  23. Gaz, as you might have seen on another subject, Bakerboy and me ( mainly Bakerboys hard work) have managed to sort a intro to pigeon course in the north west so why not come along, we will include sometime for gunfit/ eye dominance during the day so we could help you out. only £45 for a BASC member so cheaper than a lesson probably. we will also be with you while you shoot from the hide so will help with technique too. will be sorting the dates out soon and am sure Bakerboy will be posting them on here as soon as he can. watch this Space!! Flycoy
  24. gaz0203 Gunfit is a major factor of your shooting performance, if your on target at a clay ground, with average distance sporting clays the difference in chokes from open to tight will only show as either clipping a bit off or dusting the target. you will still hit most. pigeon however, you could be striking but not bringing them down. choke is important for live quarry if your using a no. 6 you will need 50% of your pellets concentrated in a 30inch circle at 35 yards around 140 so your choke may need to be tighter. if you are completely missing your targets it could be gunfit or your interpretation of where to point the gun. Get a lesson if you can with a recommended coach and get the gunfit checked, a mistake at the gun of a few millimeteres can be a metre at the target. Flycoy
