  1. Thank you. I will have a look at the elbows. It may give me enough play to use a 110mm enclosed fitting. I have researched with shower doctor who have confirmed the model and spares are discontinued and offered an alternative with the closest being 110mm fittings or 50mm caravan spec fittings. I may try and locate a 100mm fitting and see if there is enough wiggle room - judging by some of the poor quality workmanship in the property this may be a possibility
  2. These or the new TGI ‘fries’ from Iceland
  3. We have a New Team mixer shower in our small bathroom. it’s started to go hot and cold and at 15 years old is probably on the way out. The model is well discontinued and spares also. The new replacements from Bristan are not compatible as the New Team has pipe centres at 96mm?! I have tried in vain to locate a suitable 1 -1 replacement. Ideally I don’t want to have to start ripping tiles and redoing the whole lot anyone have any idea if I will ever find a 1 -1 or am I better off looking at a shower tower panel that will have the flexi hoses then just fix the whole lot to the wall? any help much appreciated
  4. ONS put the average increase at 6%. I know it’s all relative to the initial cost. I'm not sure what the average increase was last year but let’s say you are looking at nearly 2% a year which appears below average. As I said it’s all relative and you pay up front which is good security for your landlord and to me would be worth keeping you as a tenant. I would also bet you don’t give him any agro either. My friend has a tenant in a flat in Manchester that has been there 15 years or more. Paying below market rate but covering the requirements. He is happy as they cause no issues. Always pay on time and everything is covered, the tenant is happy as they know the market rates. They are not getting moved every 6-12 months and they get left alone to treat it as their own.
  5. That’s a top tip. We now have a changeover valve running 2 bottles with 2 spare. So will have to shut one off and use the last of the gas.
  6. We would have ours delivered and the driver would move into position and connect up and turn the valves. On the spare I would ‘crack’ the valve and then just nip it up. I’m sure the driver would have done this if requested.
  7. A friend of mine always uses the local Co-op for that exact reason. He is also fond of their end of day yellow stickers and the frozen deals (pizza chips and some ice lollies) he said the fuel, faff parking and public in the big supermarket put him off is yours a ‘local’ Co op or the bigger superstore one. When I am at the other house I always use the Co op superstore as it’s up the road and I can walk or pop in on the way through instead of driving out of town or battling through the lidl.
  8. All of our cars have gone up £100 or so. the different companies I spoke to said they have never seen such a big rise.
  9. I remember brannigans in the paper bag. they were the only ones you could get from Victoria wine when the newsagents were closed
  10. There is something nice about having dinners we used to have as children as we advance in years. glad to hear you hold some fond memories. how old would you have been
  11. Try giving both connectors and sockets a spray with wd40

    Low energy bulbs

I can hear the ones in my ceiling pendant when it’s dimmed. It’s like a high pitch whistle or squeal. it’s down to the fact I have to have 1 halogen in each fixing due to my all singing dimmer switch not being led compatible and needing a minimum wattage. just re read your post. Are you talking the older low energy that take a bit to warm up. get them gone and for a few quid get some instant light led
  13. A while ago someone reversed into my Volvo in the works car park. It was repaired but the assessor said if it had damaged the headlight unit it would be a write off. the cost of some genuine light units is somewhat staggering and that’s without supply issues as mentioned above

    The Met

I recall reading that a rather high proportion of people have at one time worked in the Golden Arches. The exact figure escapes me but it was something staggering. I am sure a lot of ‘successful’ people owe some of this to flipping burger as a youngster or to top up a student loan they are also touted as having one of the best management training programmes going.
  15. They are not bad at all for the price. I also use the steak form Home Bargains. It’s just gone up to £2.80 odd but if you trawl the packs you can usually find what you want fat content and location wise.
  16. Thanks for clarifying. job security I agree with. ‘Early’ (50ish) retirement seems to have gone a few years ago
  17. I don’t think retiring at 60 is an ‘early retirement’ also just by a quick look individual pension contributions are just under 12.5 percent which is not a small amount. gone are the days you can retire with your full pension at 50 aside from the military and that will likely disappear soon
  18. Would that include military officers, the doctor who decides that they are not going to treat

    Satellite train.

I saw it night before last over the north east actually really impressive
  21. I have looked into this on and off. if he is really really attached to his property for some reason then he needs to take some independent advice. if he isn’t and is going to spend his cash travelling anyway then why not downsize and blow the lot on travel. when the time comes he will have a small property he can leave to whoever sell it to buy a few weeks in decent care or let the council take it to pay for his care. job jobbed
  22. I listened to it on possibly the same US commentary stream as others. Radio 5 didn’t run it and talk sport - don’t get me started. Literally just a load of lads having a mothers meeting, there was no actual commentary. I wonder if it was a licensing thing? either way fury sounded as if he was struggling (even with the slightest commentary bias) I did have a couple of quid on duty to go over twice.
  23. I have seen people sit back from the lights so they can see them as in some cars the roof is low and your ducking down to see them. mothers to activate the pad to let the lights know there is a car there. Too far forward and they won’t change
  24. Is it a tipper of some sort. As in a milk churn to empty. or is it a seed bag or sand bag filler
  25. Our insurance has increased this year by roughly £100 a car. this has happened across the board with each car being insured with different companies. when asked all have said it’s to do with the cost of utilities, lack of parts, increased costs for labour and a shortage of that and the big one (as mentioned) electric cars - basically a couple of the reps said if you have a dink in an electric car it’s almost always written off and it’s hard and costly to dispose of. They also said the increase in thefts of keyless cars has bumped things up and they have never seen rises to this level in years and years
