  1. Thanks all, I have a local smith who I’ve used in the past, just waiting on getting a chance to see him! but if he’s too busy then wiseman definitely seems to be the best alternative
  2. Evening all, Im just back from a trip to holts to pick up some auction acquisitions. one of them was an army and navy box lock ejector with recently sleeved barrels that was worth a cheeky punt for the price I paid. the problem is it’s loose on the face, can anyone shed a rough price on how much it would cost for a proper rejointing job? it needs a general tidy up with some attention to the stock and lengthening but I like a project. im hoping to keep this for long term use so don’t mind paying for a good job as I have an almost exact replica but with tight chokes and 2.5” chambers, this new one has 1/4 both barrels and 2 3/4 chambers so should be good for standard steel in the future. thanks all.
  3. Not been suggested but what about a triumph tiger? the 955 can be picked up for around 2k, 110bhp, plenty of torque from the triple, far better in the corners than it should be and plenty quick in a straight line. And really comfy for covering miles
  4. Thanks all, I’ve already been looking into triggers and nylon bump stops etc. Haha
  5. I’ve just bought a big standard 10/22 on a whim, what’s people’s thoughts and things to watch out for? jamie
  6. Thanks all, the gearbox service was on my check list but in the end I told the seller I’d give it a miss. im just going to wait a while and buy a newer low mileage one for around £8-9k
  7. Looking at the mot history it done 110,000 before it’s first mot so I’d imagine motorway miles company car etc. apparently it had its belt/chain done at 130,000 but I’ll be checking the receipts for that. Auto so no clutch and I’d imagine the flywheel won’t get as much abuse as on a manual? Looks like it’s first 3-4 years are when it’s covered it’s miles, 110,000 before it’s first test at 3 years old. the only reason I’m looking is that’s it’s up for £3300 and is in the same price range as plain c200 with no extras but this has most of the toys fitted
  8. Morning all, I’m going to look at a a 2011 c220 Mercedes this afternoon, the cars up for a decent price and looks in good condition but has 190,000 miles on it. I know that it’s all down to maintenance and from what I’ve seen this car has good service history but I’ll check that when I go to view it. would this mileage put anyone off or will it be good for another 200k? thanks
  9. What about the sort of thing used to attach them on a snowmobile? think they call them gun boots? Probably require some fettling but could work
  10. There’s a bloke called Keith at stocks field, Weldon send most of their work to him and most other shops send him a lot of work as well. he’s done several pieces for me over the years and his prices are good and his work even better. drop me a pm and I’ll give you his number
  11. I’m open to offers and will also send via rfd
  12. The house hadn’t gained anything, by the time I’d argued over valuations, possibility of extra solicitors and possibly court I probably would’ve came out with less than I already have. but I do agree I’ve done myself over
  13. Yeah I owned a share In the house, not a huge amount as we’d only been in 18 months and she paid the deposit through inheritance so all I could claim was my mortgage payments minus interest and bits and bobs like new carpets I paid for etc. All in all about £3.5k She was arguing saying I didn’t deserve anything back as if I’d been renting it would’ve cost me more in rent so I should be grateful for the cheap living for 18 months 😂 In the end I settled for £1.5k as I also wanted to keep things civil as it was looking like we may be able to resolve our issues once we lived separately but as soon as I’d signed the paperwork for £1.5k I never heard a thing again. lessons learned there!
  14. I can more than afford to pay a loan and the mortgage, what I can’t afford is loan, rent and savings... the rent on a house is £795 for something that suits my needs, I can buy something of a similar standard with a mortgage of £400-450 depending on the calculator I use. I’m awaiting an appointment with a mortgage advisor but also looking at other ways around this. I think I may end up buying a new car or bike etc. And then a family member gifting me a similar amount...
  15. Hi all, Me and my partner broke up 6 months ago and she kept the house. I’ve been renting since then and have just taken out a loan to refurnish the house as I’ve been making do with bits I’ve scrounged off friends and family. I’ve just been informed that my co tract is being made permanent at work so I can now apply for mortgages again, would I be able to use this loan as part of my deposit (Roughly 50% of the deposit) or is it a big no no? All thoughts appreciated
  16. As much as I love the idea I have no intention as I simply don’t have the ability or knowledge. it’s a pair of aya box lock ejectors in the Southams sale if anyone is interested
  17. Evening all, I’ve noticed a few guns for sale in auctions in the white recently and was wandering how these come about as being offered? are they factory rejects or similar? obviously not something I would even consider as the knowledge and skill needed to complete one is way above my level! thanks
  18. Got the B14 hunter in .243 and I can’t fault it, abused it for 3 seasons as a stalker in Scotland, used on everything from stoats to stage, out shot full custom Callum Ferguson rifles at informal competition and much nicer build than both the tikka and Remington it replaced. I still have it now and use it mainly as a long range vermin rifle, with some load development and practice I’ve taken crows at 700+ with it. Definitely one of the best rifles I’ve ever owned and one of the only rifles I’ve not heard many bad reviews of from people who’ve tried them. My next rifle will also be a b14 but the HMR. The only negative I can give it is the factory fore end could be a tiny bit stiffer but it’s actually been an issue in use and I shoot in all sorts of weird and wonderful positions haha
  19. I have wide feet, in Altbergs I wear a 14w, the medium is too narrow but a normal Meindl fits me fine. However, may not be what you’re after but I find meindls don’t last half as long as other makes, when new they’re really good but I used to replace mine after 6 months where as my altbergs or lowas generally lasted me up to 2 years of full waterproofing then another year of being good enough pay your money and make your choice
  20. No, 2 1/2 is 65mm, some get away with 67mm but my old army and navy doesn’t like them
  21. Welsh pheasants are simple... it’s the cunning northern ones that are difficult haha
  22. Thanks everyone, to be honest I have no idea what chokes are in the sbs, I’m usually one of the “if it goes bang it’ll be fine” types I think Wymberly has a good idea in taking the over and under just incase thanks all
  23. Morning all, I know it’s done to death but I’ve been getting doubts put in my mind off others i shoot with. I mainly shoot walked up days and the odd average driven day and use 30gr 5 for everything but I’ve got an invite to a high bird day in the borders, I could use my o/u and follow the sheep with 34g 4’s but I love shooting my old English sxs. Will my standard 30gr 5’s be up to the job or do I need something else? thanks
  24. So many mixed opinions on the gsx750f! I think the only true way is to pass the test and have a ride haha
