  1. Thanks, nice to hear that. It was already on the list of things to do for this weekend when the wife and daughter are disappearing. Coen brothers are always good.
  2. ... and spurred on by this, I gave him a quick call. Lots of apologies, big job just finished, see me on Friday. Thank you Ultrastu.
  3. Thanks for the responses. It's damp getting into the ceiling of an upstairs room via the chimney breast. It happened years ago and we had the flashing replaced, so my thinking is either the flashing again, or pointing. A tile problem isn't out of the question, but it's in an awkward place so I can't have a look in the attic. The annoying thing is that I understand these jobs are a pain and I always explain that it's probably half a day and I don't expect people to drop everything and do it. I even got to the point of agreeing someone's day rate, or half a day if that's what was needed, plus the cost of a tower, but he went off the radar. I'll carry on looking!
  4. Good morning all. I've tried a couple of roofers for a small job (probably a day's work) and no one seems interested. One had a look and promised to get back and I had an exchange of texts with another who said he'd let me know. We've had jobs done before, so not a problem with access and so on. Is this a bad time of year or something of the sort? South London, if that's relevant. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.
  5. Having heard someone say that they loved their job set me thinking. Does anyone really love their job? If they do, what does that say about their private lives? I quite like what I do, but work's work and I can't imagine loving what I do for a living. What do others think?
  6. We're off to California in a couple of weeks, driving from San Diego to San Francisco. Does anyone know if it's possible to visit a public range to have a play while Mrs T does something more suitable for the ladies?

    Teal decoys

I'll check out what it's likely to cost Bob. Which part of tey country are you in?

    Teal decoys

Four lightweight teal decoys (one drake). £20 the lot. NOW SOLD.
  10. Thanks everyone. I go up by train, so difficult to get elsewhere. I noticed Stensby's too, which is what made me think.
  11. I get sent to central Manchester by work more often than I really want to. Any country/ gun shops worth visiting? There's not a lot else worth looking at.
  12. Sorry about the blank post - brain malfunction. I was going to say that our very ordinary and small domestic moggie kills adult rats and eats bits of them. They have no fear.
  13. Thanks everyone. I'm a regular at JJ's, but I'm venturing north of the river to take the nephew out. For some strange reason the kid's very fond of me.
  14. Does anyone know of any that welcome visitors? They all seem to be Sunday only.
  15. Bit of a daft question if you already know the answer. Where driven days are advertised as, for example, a 200 bird day at £25 a bird and at a total price (say £500), what happens when the 201st bird is shot?
  16. I'm thinking of buying a new car (a couple of years old) in the next twelve months. Is it right that dealers charge a little less in December becasue everyone is thinking about Christmas and feels short of money than they do in spring when we're all feeling more optimistic? Off subject a little, but why do they always seem to say 'how much were you looking for?' when you show them your part exchange? You both know they'll look up the price in their little black book.

    Stress

Yes J@mes, no disrespect intended to those who have genuine problems. At least they've both shut up now and they're getting on with some work!
  18. Any views on these? They look well made and the rifles have a good reputation.

    Stress

I've just been listening to two women in the office talking about how stressed they are and considering going to the doctor about it. What is the matter with people? Is it just me?

    Bees

This is all good stuff, thanks and the website is very interesting. A local course in beekeeping is fully booked and I have missed the beginning of the local association's course for novices. I'll look again in the autumn. I'm 51, so not that ancient!

    Bees

I've been kicking round the idea of keeping a hive. Bees need a hand and who doesn't like honey? Does anyone else on here keep them?
  22. I made cider from eating apples years ago and had an experience pretty much like Doc Holliday's. Three bottles exploded in a cupboard and we didn't notice until the smell permeated. I had to defuse the last one in the garden and was left with a couple of inches of froth and near loss of thumb and forefinger as the screwtop disappeared into space. I didn't actually manage to drink any (probably just as well).
  23. Years ago in the territorials we were on a night firing excercise. Target pops up, guy next to me fires. Next thing "CEASE FIRING. WHO SHOT THAT F-ING SHEEP?" Happens all the time I've heard.
