  1. Cheers chaps. I'll take the advice and keep a good paper trail, complete with a copy of receipt. Then I can transfer the gun from my ticket in one go. I too have been bitten in the past with other peoples failures and my paper trail has proven it's worth. Much appreciated for your comments.
  2. Hi All I sent a letter below (OK snippet below) to my local Firearms Officer who has in the past provided both a superb service and helpful advice. "As things stand I have a Lanber shotgun on my certificate marked as "on loan" from another Shotgun certificate holder Shaun. Shaun owns the shotgun but I have been storing it for him. Shaun has decided to sell his Lanber to a friend of mine Richard who, obviously, is another Shotgun certificate holder. My query is how do we do the paperwork? My certificate has the Lanber with me but I obviously do not own it. Shaun owns the gun but does not have it on his certificate any more and we would like to transfer it to a new owner Richard. Do I transfer the gun back to Shaun for him to transfer to Richard? Or can I transfer directly to Richard even though I have it "on loan" My concern being it would appear from the certificates paper trail I would have sold a gun I do not own. Is this something that would raise a concern for you or are you mainly interested in who has what gun and where it is? I'm sorry for the questions but firearms and "getting it right" are a huge concern for all three of us. Many thanks in advance With best regards" Unfortunately I have not heard anything on this occasion. Can someone provide some advice? Many thanks
  3. This is where I'm coming from. I have no problem paying fees that are due and agreed. But this was not agreed, there was no mention of the possibility of it on the paperwork I submitted (though the current version now includes it) The request for payment has come VERY late - after the expiration of my original certificate the GPs have not followed the guidelines of the BMI with respect to fees, time scales etc My certificate was granted and I know my medical condition is such that a report (that should be charged for) is not necessary So I feel I was being charged for work that was not done, without my consent. Yes they responded to the police request, but that form has been designed to cause as little impact as possible to the GP. To tap my name into the database and see my history would be considerably less than 4 minutes work - IF it were a doctor that did it - and that I very much doubt would happen anyway. I'll see what they send me and quite possibly challenge their decision based on the BMI guidelines. I'll let you know how they respond. Thanks everyone
  4. Hi Chaps and Chapesses. Thanks for your replies I've been doing a little digging and discovered this, which makes perfect sense, but was not done. http://www.bma.org.uk/support-at-work/pay-fees-allowances/fees/organising-your-finances/agreeing-fees-in-advance Then I found this, and considering I have had my renewal, I would expect there was very little to report as I have only seen my GP to get beta blockers and water tablets re issued over the last 5 years.. http://www.bma.org.uk/support-at-work/ethics/confidentiality-and-health-records/firearms ..which has this lower down http://www.bma.org.uk/support-at-work/ethics/confidentiality-and-health-records/firearms#fees That is generally covered in the first option, a tick box of less than a dozen questions. - a Max of 5 minutes work. My renewal documentation never mentioned additional Doctors Fees and the "Firearm reminder" on my records is probably against Data Protection and not something I desire, so I will be insisting it is removed. I'm feeling like they have shut the gate after the horse has bolted. I could have refused or challenged the fee IF I had known about it, but they have not allowed me that choice. The BMA is suggesting it is not really a billable request as there is nothing to report and the job is done with or without the payment. The fact they are asking for it well after the 21 days their own documentation allows just adds insult to injury. I'm in half a mind to respond with a "yes that is fine - £20 for 5 minutes of your work... but you will agree to me billing you at the same rate for sitting in your waiting room when I have an appointment and you are late..." We shall see how it pans out. Cheers Danny
  5. Hi All I'm lucky enough to have a SGC and recently it was up for renewal. I applied a good 3-4 months in advance, as I was kindly advised by letter that it would be at least 8 weeks. Two and a half weeks ago my renewal arrived, just days before the expiration of the old one... Result! Today, I get a phone call from my GP surgery. They are wanting to bill me £20 for completing some "new paperwork" associated with my SGC application. The girl was very cagey, lots of "ummms" and and "errs" in the spiel she gave. Apparently I should have been notified by the Police of this charge... But I have heard nothing and physically have the renewal. Has anyone else heard of this? I've asked for it all to be put into writing, including the paperwork from the police telling them to chase me, and for them to post it to me as I didn't believe them, which seemed to upset the girl profusely :-) I will be interest to hear form you all. Thanks Danro
  6. Cheers Chaps. I've still a fair bit of practice to do on my mount. So for the time being I'll stick to the clays, but should a "pigeon day" arise on one of my shoots, I'll give it a go!! Much appreciated danro
  7. Hi all I'm new to shotgunning and never shot at pigeon with one. I'm currently practising on the clays and wondered at what stage you chaps would consider a clay shooter to be "good enough" to move onto live quarry. I'm breaking the clays fine.... but there again, I know which way they are coming from and going to so scores will be a little misleading. I've been airgun hunting for years so I'm a great believer in taking the most humane shot you can.. but shotgunners are going for moving targets so there is much more skill needed in shot placement in a very short space of time compared to airguns where fieldcraft is king and the shot a formality. Your comments will be interesting. Cheers
  8. I take it I measure that down to the shoulder\lip inside the barrels? Whoops :look: Thanks for clearing that up
  9. Hi Everyone I have recently received my SCG and was promptly "paid" by a friend for some work that I had done by way of an old double trigger SBS sporting 12g, cabinet, slip, cartridge bag, carts 28g, cleaning kit etc. When I first fired it, the recoil appeared horrendous almost to the point where I was wondering did I really want to do this.. So I booked myself on some lessons with a professional coach. These I did last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed. The coach pointed out I was mounting the gun COMPLETELY wrong - into my shoulder joint too far out. He also added a 5mm comb raiser ..and I was supplied some 21g carts. So, while my main issue is fixed - I enjoy shooting I failed to estabilsh what was the main contributing factor to the large recoil. The tutor said as my gun is light I will experience considerable recoil. Which I understand - laws of physics etc. But my question is, will a 28g cartrigde make much difference to the recoil compared to 21g I've just been shooting and once I am proficient enough to consider shooting quarry, is a 21g cart "upto" it or does live quarry require the larger charge (as I have picked up it requires larger shot too) Many thanks for you assistance Danro
  10. A strange request, I know.. But there is a good reason. I make airgun targets and currently have a cad drawing of a pigeon head, but no measurements.. - it is a vector. I need to scale it correctly before sending to the laser steel cutters. Normally, I'd just pop a pigeon and measure it but as **** law would have it.. I've not seen one for a week or so. If someone would be kind enough to measure from the tip of the bill to the back of the head in either inches or mm of a woody it would be appreciated Thanks in advance Danro
  11. Doh My mistake - sorry  You are quite right, Had I read and inwardly digested.. Thank for clearing that up. Danro "User error!! Replace user and press any key to continue..."
  12. Nice vids there cynic! Keep up the good work Danro
  13. Not wanting to pick an argument but does "pest control" not fall into the category of "with a lawful excuse"? So,provided you had permission and a good reason to be there (like pest control) discharging an airgun within 50ft of a highway should surely be fine - so long as your actions were safe (for both you and the public). I'm not saying this is "fact"... I'm asking opinions Cheers Danro
  14. Wikipedia says this about weapons.. Wikipedia weapon The GCN on their objectives page, point 2 say this... Oh please sir! Please! Let me register and have a chat!!! It would be sooooo much fun. Once certificate for kitchen knives, crowbars, car jacks, cars, vans, lorries, matches, deep fat fryers, toasters, pens, pencils, bottles, hands, feet, teeth, heads... Some people REALLY do not understand what it is they are asking for... I bet the people who tun the GCN also put this advert in the San Francisco press
  15. It is only ensuring a minimum of common sense. I've got children and have to keep the guns out of reach. Sadly not all airgun owners will have the same amount of common sense so this will mop up those who are struggling.... in theory Wise publicise it here thou. Well done. Danro
