When I looked they did both. Could well be that, as they would have likely stocked heavier clay guns, they were all steel actioned guns.
  2. I would also say 223. Don't know what range you're shooting but I'd consider target shooting a out to 600yds with a 223. Don't expect little or no recoil from the 223 either. If you want the "full experience" go with the 308. It's very loud! You'll want to double up with ear plugs and cans, and it'll give you a good shove in the shoulder. 100yds is a bit of a waste but 1000 is quite doable. Most of all though is have fun. I shall be at Bisley on the 30th doing just that.
  3. Surely that's exactly the level of "humour" that the provocative fat shouty one employed in the original series.
  4. I'm with @islandgun on this. You want it? Buy it. What if what if? If you thought like that you'd never leave the house in case you got run over.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Yes I made something to remove that plug which was indeed quite snug. Doesn't look too bad at all inside so am going to fit a new barrel seal, arrived yesterday, and see how we get on.
  6. Call Highwood Classic Arms if you're after a good usable rifle and tell them what you want. They know their stuff and have all the equipment.
  7. Leave the grass long enough she won't see the fence. Sorted
  8. I use one of those , or something extremely similar. It's perfectly adequate for my club target shooting needs. The scales are fine if a little fiddly and it's too easy to touch and move the sliding vernier scale but work well enough if you're careful. The press could also be more robust, I found when I was crimping (I no longer bother) and seating the heads the depth could vary marginally depending on how firmly the arm is leant on. If you're only loading one rifle you should just need to bump the shoulders back rather than full length sizing.
  9. Just been gifted one of these that needs a strip and clean, prob a new seal too. Any tips on how to remove the screwed in barrel pivot plug to get to the seal? Is it just brute force? I'm assuming that using the barrel lug is unwise. Also a Webley Sports Starting Pistol in the same gift.
  10. Assuming shogun, Philips bore cleaner.
  11. I'd go with option 2. You have the advantage of experience telling you you're not consistent. I like you am uncomfortable with Beretta but Browning feels better. After a cheapish "training" gun I settled with a Ceasar Guerini. And still have it.

Bit of flat moulding trim, couple of rare earth magnets, tin of matt black paint. Sand to prefered hight, paint black.
  13. And Highwood also refurb and rebarrel if necessary. Their website gives all the details.
  14. Always worth a look though I can never come out of that place without buying something. Highwood Classic Arms is also worth speaking to. He has some interesting stuff but it goes quickly. Would be worth a phone call.
  15. There's someone selling a 1944 long branch on ukvarminting forum, £500 non matching numbers.
  16. And I don't think you need to be as specific as which make of moderator just which caliber it's for.
  17. That is not a particularly sympathetic attempt at removing the right hand disc. Some of those score marks run right off the face! As TC said, good luck with the restoration.
  18. I also have lots of 308.
  19. Well, serves me right for having a conscience. Stuck in London!!! Will curl up at work on a sofa under the dogs blanket. Thankfully left her at home today.
  20. A bit wet and blustery but as said above due to get worse at midday then calm down a bit. Red warning London and SE. Currently on the commuter train to London wondering if I'll get home (South Coast) this afternoon.

14 mins from request to solution, PW helps out again! @ditchman A palm rest is an additional shelf bolted under the stock. Helpful for standing and kneeling shots. Especially useful for old fat blokes competing in hft competitions.
