  1. It's an old BSA in 243 and it's reliable and in very good nick. I'll try and take a photo later but essentially the bases sit in front and behind the breech and ne'r the twain shall meet.
  2. Finally got round to trying to mount my Yukon Photon last night. Sat at the kitchen table like a proud father with the nv and the new mounts I'd bought in the afternoon and my trusty cannon. Stuck the mounts on and oh fiddlesticks (or words to that effect) the scope tube is too short to fit between my mounts. So what mounts do I need to buy to stick it all together?
  3. 1-indiscriminate knackered Belgian 410 1-Aya yeoman 12g 1-unknown o/u 12g 1-E Rizzini 12g 1-Cz 452 silhouette 17hmr and 1-BSA 243 I've just been granted a variation for a 308 and a 22RF - not sure if I want a LR or a WMR! And I wasn't a semi auto 12 and a tidy little 20g. Good job I bought a bigger cabinet 😜
  4. I found this http://uk.businessinsider.com/hitler-created-the-largest-gun-ever-2015-4?r=US&IR=Tit's only 55yds though...
  5. That's next on the list. At the minute I want to get it sorted in my minds eye where we're going to put everything. I tried doing a scale line drawing of the lie of the land by hand but I never took art or DT at school so it was naff. I did do pootering at school.
  6. She's not from laaandaaan geeza.
  7. My lovely lady wants to build an ouse. That in itself isn't a problem there's loads of house designing software to play with. I want to do some scale drawings of the land it's self so I can play around with position etc also if she gets a house I get a big steel framed shed, so more importantly I want to work out where to put the shed! Is there any software I can download or use on line for doing the block drawings of the land.
  8. Bruno if you watch the video the voice over shows the negative bias towards the activity leading the viewer to the conclusion that the protagonist has a negative bias against the subject matter. I'm not going to get into a piddling competition with you because it's not a subject I really care about or have any interest in. Never going to do it and never want to do it (remember the don't like it don't watch comment from before) Fuelling the fires of the anti shooting brigade with tripe about one group of people being degenerate because they shoot live quarry in a way you disagree with will only come back and bite any shooter in the posterior. You see it as unpleasant and distasteful but then the vegan cat hair jumper wearing brigade see you as distasteful even if all you want to do is shoot those poor innocent clay pigeons. After all they've been raised only to be shot out of a trap and killed by guns on a weekend.
  9. Don't believe everything you see on the Internet. Videos on YouTube with an agenda are always going to be biased. Just look at all the fox hunting videos. There's always going to be some unscrupulous so and so that catches pigeons and half starves them and provides all but dead pigeons at the matches. There's also going to be the people that want the best for their chosen disciple, whether it's to your palate or not, who will provide healthy, fit, well looked after birds. I've never been or seen these shoots apart from that one anti video at the beginning of this thread. How many on here would jump at the chance to go and shoot pigs on the continent, or game in Africa or go on a cull hunt in Australia? Have a flick round on the internet and you'll soon find that anyone that does that is a vile, child molesting, degenerate that kills innocent animals slowly and painfully and then bathes in their blood and wears their head as a hat whilst dancing naked with the locals. I'm of the opinion much like hunting that if you don't like it don't watch, if they're not doing anything illegal let them get on with it. It's not like they're forcing you to participate.
  10. I sent them an email this afternoon. It's 4 months on Sunday since my variation went in. The FEO came and signed me off on the 15th of Nov and I sat with him whilst his forms whizzed through the ether to Carmarthen so surely two months to print off a cert and whack it with a rubber stamp is plenty!
  11. Never knew this! Would that count if it was payment in kind too? Like hire or reward. I couldn't pay you to reload for me but I could give you £50's worth of red wine for X many rounds.
  12. Seen it as well at the kennels when the 'big' gun broke. It did the job but not a lot of people would be happy to take that chance. Chop a skull in half and look at the brain and you'll see a 22 is perfectly up to the job but you remove a lot of margin for error. A bit like knocking fencing nails in with a 10oz hammer. It works but you get a better swing with a 20oz if you see what I mean.
  13. Imagine a magnum load agains a watermelon and that's the outcome of that scenario, Trigger would be very dead but you've also redecorated half the county with horse brains. Any standard shotgun load will do, a horses skull isn't all that thick. I once shot the side of an old shed we were about to burn, the timber was a similar thickness to skull thickness (ok it was a different density but it gives you an idea) from about 10yds away. It punched a hole the size of your fist through the wood and carried on going I think that was 28g 6's. Typically shooting Silver the muzzle is less than an inch away from the skull. If you had a difficult horse you could give them a bucket of corn to get them to settle and shoot them with the head in the bucket which isn't ideal but still doable. There's a reason the kennels use pistols and that's because they're less unwieldy than a shotgun. If you want to see a bloke who is excellent at his job have a scout through YouTube for the animal rights video from inside Potters abbatoir. I can't find it at the minute but if I do I'll post it. The bloke is poetry in motion. Horse walks in, stands still and bang it's dead. Ignore the animal rights carp, if we shot more and ate horse in this country the horse population in this country would be a lot better off! Also no heart shots! That's a big no no.
  14. Next time you're out and about find a foot square piece of wood and shoot it dead centre from 3-5 yards away and see the hole it makes. Best thing is to get her in a shed and pen her up somewhere quiet and get her settled with a bucket of corn. If you were knocking her over to eat her as soon as she's down you need to bleed her and get her lifted off the ground to make sure all the blood is out.
  15. We lived in the line of some of the pyres. The smell was bad enough. I was 16. Pre shotgun/fac and had no stock other than the horses so it didn't affect us too bad. Uncle however worked on a dairy farm that was a preventative cull. The ministry had him helping with the cull and my cousin a farrier, worked in the offices. The stories they can tell you about the vets are unreal. You wouldn't let them put your hamster down.
  16. iPhone 6 screen £95 replaced in ten mins in Shrewsbury! No dear I haven't seen your phone anywhere....
  17. Yep same as buying them. Only I haven't got my ticket at the minute so I was curious about where that would leave me if I did that.
  18. I've got 243 for fox and deer. Foxes don't walk away even if I ****** my but up a little bit. I got it opened for deer too in case I get chance to go out in the day light!
  19. I did question the legality of that but nobody really had an answer. My thinking is it would be illegal because until the ammunition has been used there is a box of fully loaded bullets floating around in the ether. And if it's not illegal then why do we have to have all the ammunition we buy recorded on our ticket so they know where it's all gone.
  20. I've still got the email from them that says get a friend to buy you some bullets! My poor old 243 hasn't seen the light of day for months.
  21. Still waiting on a variation from September! What seems to happen is just before 2 months is up you'll get an FEO visit and then I'm guessing/praying/hoping a further 2 months down the line they'll issue your ticket. Hopefully mine will be back by the 17th which is exactly 4 months since it was officially in the system! Pester them though to make sure it's in the system they lost mine to begin with.
  22. Some of the oldest people I know smoke and drink and have done since the dinosaurs walked - I'm pretty sure they pickled themselves in alcohol and formaldehyde! Gilliam Mckeith and Nigella Lawson are the same age...one drinks and eats cake and the other eats lettuce and drinks water which one looks better?!
  23. I've held more horses (to be shot) than I care to remember in a lot of different scenarios from racing to hunting to standing quietly in an orchard and I would always always always have them shot. Injections are subjective to the vet. And the vet as is the way with a lot of vets could be a bit wishy washy and useless. id never have one injected, it also means it can't be fed to the hounds and has to be incinerated.
