  1. Great many thanks! A pic would be great if you can, thank you.
  2. Will do Scully, haven't actually bought it yet but will get it ordered..
  3. Want to spruce up my old Spanish side by side and thinking of starting with the bluing on the barrels. Current finish is sound no rust or pitting at all it's just a bit faded. I have been looking at various cold bluing solutions and the Ballistol 'Klever' product seem to get lots of recommendations this is a link to it: https://www.ballistolstore.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=134 From what I have read it seems to suggest that this product can be applied over existing bluing if it's sound and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of doing it this way? The gun isn't worth a professional blacking job and as its my rough gun I don't want to spend hours on it sanding back to bare metal. So thought about just degreasing it fully and then a quick rub down with 000 steel wool then applying the product. Any ideas or advice guys?
  4. Buy a house in Nevada and spend my money on custom made handguns.
  5. I soak my chokes in meths overnight scrub clean with a nail brush and grease the threads lightly with tetra grease. Clean the barrel threads with Ed's Red solvent on a tight patch. That's it not let me down yet.
  6. Yes I have but had it delivered to the hotel when I was on a business trip.
  7. Purdey custom made SXS with acanthus scroll. Have shot one and it makes anything else seem like second rate tatt.
  8. Thanks all I think I'll need a set of gunsmiths screwdrivers as well any recommendations?
  9. Lovely gun I have always liked winchesters. Great find let me know if you ever decide to sell it!! 😊😊
  10. Hi all I am quite attached to my old spanish boxlock overall it's in great condition apart from a couple of the action screws which look like someone has had a "go" at over its 45 years of life. I would like to replace them or recondition them and wondered if anyone knew of a source of spares for these common guns or can advise on a way to recondition them? I did think about dressing then down with a fine file and then polishing with autosol but not sure if this the right approach, any ideas? Cheers all and happy Christmas!
  11. Strange, I have never suffered any staining or stock damage from using them.
  12. Don't worry about it you will place more stress on the ejector springs if you use snap caps. Dry firing is bad the rebound action can damage the firing pins. I never use snaps on my newer guns and in 30 years of shooting have never had any problems. I only use them occasionally on my old non ejector side by side but only if it's not going to be used for ages. Use of snaps is probably one on the most discussed topics but personally I would just clean it and store it.
  13. Look at the pachmayr decelerator slip on pads, I bought one for my Spanish SbS and it's really good. Ads 20mm to the.LOP and softens the recoil a lot. I bought mine in medium size for my straight stock and it seems to fit fine.
  14. All the descriptions certainly apply to my gun. Plain silver action choked 3/4 and full (if I have read the barrel marking correctly). It seems a nicely made well balanced gun and mine is nearly mint apart from the stock which is a little tired. Haven't shot it yet but hoping to do so soon. Should I use any specific type of cartridge although the gun has 70mm Chambers it's proofed to 900KG seems to imply that lower pressure cartridges would be a better idea also given its age as well?
  15. Yes it's Spanish and your bang on about the choking.
  16. Picked up a really nice old side by side today the maker is Master. It's made in Spain and I think it was originally made by ugartechea and probably imported by somebody. Does anyone know anything about these guns I would love to find out a bit more about it!
  17. Hi all I have an old Spanish SxS which is my knock about gun used for rough shooting etc, its in fair condition but I like shooting it. Probably worthless to be honest but I plan to "shoot it into the ground". I have noticed that the barrel exterior has a few rust spots probably from the damp weather and me being not overly anal about cleaning it! Is there anything people have done to protect older guns from the dreaded rust? I thought about cold bluing the barrels but not read very much positive about that and seems a lot of effort for potentially poor results. Duracoat at 70 odd quick cant be justified, I did look at Krylon paints but that seem to come in weird colours and not sure if its meant for airsoft toys rather that proper guns! Any tips of hints for a functional make over?
  18. +1 for Valley View its open on Boxing Day. Was great to meet up with JamesMoody3 their yesterday, even though he wiped the floor with my score which is too embarrassing to post! Wont be able to make it though myself but will be going for a walk in the woods with my SxS for a spot of walked up rough shooting at some point over the break! I wonder if Pigeon goes with Turkey Leftovers for a nice stew or a curry??
