  1. It was not a medical reason if you have no criminal convictions and satisfy you meet the Home Office requirements in the last 3 yrs you can apply for a Firearms/shot gun certificate,if it was a medical condition condition and your recent history is clear then your Doctor can/will furnish a letter to say so,on another subject regarding medicals I was a HGV driver and under the rules and regulations if you spent more than I believe 24hrs in hospital you were required to notify DVLA who would suspend your licence until they were satisfied you were fit to work ,I was in that position and had to get a solicitor to reinstate my licence after being in possession of my Gps letter saying fit to return to work ,I had my licence drop on my door mat 48 hrs later.
  2. I was going to see the pattern on my sa with a full choke I have a large plastic water butt which I leave in a hedge and tape sheets of wallpaper on it but today , it was per per persistently heavy rain even under the tree canopy was just as bad as standing out , 2 birds came out down the hedgerow had 2 shots32 5 no good, my hat was soaked ,water dripping off the gun so called it a day, got into a farm barn and cleaned the gun down and oiled ,when home stood it in a warm lockable cupboard and just now cleaned and wiped over with a oily rag, going out again Friday.
  3. I am going out in the morning with my Hatsan semi and just trying a 3/4 choke in it up from 1/2 also my Mossberg 500 pump wound the c-lect down to try that taking various cartridges from 32 5 32 6 30 5 29 6 lots of 28 6's some Gamebore Rio Gameload trying Jocker said to have more bang than buck ,gone to 3/4 as where I go 99% high birds got one Friday out from a hedge stayed low then lifted using 32 5 paced it out at 43 yards using 1/2 choke.
  4. it's a silent still movie.
  5. moor man no didn't bring it home, but a good plump bird in good condition ,for weeks now very few birds pigeons ,corvids about when they are rare to see 3 or more mostly very high and away and it is 550 acres , lucky for me the other farms are syndicated so this one free, old school farming family who doesn't want people traipsing about, the area is full of Red kites and Buzzards mobbing everything, there is one live Badger set , 2 Roe deer, no squirrels yet must be 100 Oak and Ash trees, fields surrounded by high thick hedge, I don't get despondent it is nice to use the guns ,not really been out for over 3 years with my wife's health so really starting again and trying different chokes and cartridges , can't wait for the cold snap to come should have my eye in and chokes sorted gone from 1/4 now to 1/2.got to just sort out my Mossberg 8 shot pump c lect choke then I'll be happy .Thanks to you and ditchman and TC for your comments.
  6. Went of the farm today, I always talk to the farmer and let him know where I am going ,his son suggested the top field as it has had hay on it it is about 20acres with oak and ash trees and good size hedge all around , my gun today Hatsan Escort semi 28" ,choice of cartridges RC 28 6 Gamebore 29 6 velocity recently bought some Jocker to try so had 32 5 20 6 and 28 6, had a 1/4 choke ,I had a good walk around scoffing blackberries as I walked ,the hedges full of them and sloes ooh they're so bitter but the blackberries every hedge just kept picking and eating ,noticed under a hedge remains of a Buzzard a wing and tail feathers ,there is a Badger set which is live and noticed 4 more runs been dug recently, nothing doing in that field so gun emptied and bagged to cross the road onto the farms main fields I normally walk in 100yds in with the road behind before unbagging and loading a few high pigeons ,then changed the choke to 1/2" and the rain started , I notice a bird up in a dead tree about 400yd right at the top so walked up to about 100yds still raining it took off ****** a young Buzzard, they are prolific on the farm those and Red Kites, I walked back and took shelter under a large Ash, still raining ,heard a couple of pigeons take off out some trees further down ,my luck they always leave behind the hedge/tree line from where I am ,then a couple of people running along the hedge row a field away so I watched to see them go away ,the farmer was ploughing 2 fields away with loads of gulls trailing him, I then moved along for 30yds under another Ash with a good canopy, unloaded the Jocker 28's stuck in three 32 5's and bingo out of the tree line a nice pigeon it stayed low then lifted first shot it twisted 2nd feathers flying it turned over and I watched it drop into a big hedge of bramble and sloes , walked up there it was nice heavy bird in good condition, most of the hit was left side and using the Jocker 32' 5's with 1/2" choke I was well happy been using different 12g's various chokes and found the one ,I paced back to where I was standing 43yds ,did it twice to make sure, the rain was getting heavier so decided to finish and go .
  7. Morning all,I have a Mossberg 500 pump action with a c lect choke ,I do not know the guns age but love it ,24" 8 shot,my problem is the choke adjustment , on the choke is a small strip of metal held in with a small screw which I presume had the choke settings on it but they have worn , so if I turn the choke clockwise ( towards the stock) is that full choke so anti clockwise cylinder ,Thanks.
  8. I agree with Steve you need to contact the firearms section at BASC if not a member then join asap, they are very helpfull and have the legal eagles on board and present your case.Another issue you only have to be squeaky clean in the last 3 years to satisfy the Home Office and your history is well beyond that.
  9. I have one a synthetic Remington 597 semi auto with a mod. spot on at 50yds on the range, going to change the scope as it is some obscure unknown thingy to cope with 100 +.
  10. On the North Beds /Northants border some years ago there were mink farms and the antis released a load so they travel distances well and they are in the Bedford town area in the Ouse tributaries and fishing lakes ,evil little critters, like the Cormorants.
  11. Hi Bigbob Freelanders 2 have problems with the Haldex system in the rear diff, I had a 2002 model petrol no probs apart from the Turkish government took a fancy to it, my daughter has recently bought a '09 Freelander 2 and found out the hard way ,bought from a so called reputable dealer all said to be serviced right thru ,a noise began to come from the rear after a short distance dealer said tyre noise? I walked along side the car and could hear the noise I said diff bearing, the axle had not been serviced or oil changed hence the system fails so £1120 later its fixed but for how long?I run a Dodge Nitro '09 paid £4050 private 52 k 1 owner 2.8 diesel 6 sp manual selective 4wd had it 4yrs upto 46 mpg, 38 mpg local can't knock it ,if they still made them definately would have another.Service parts cheap enough and available. They have everything 4x4 4 times dearer so smile when disco drivers say 22-24 mpg, £800 for cam belt . Navara's had a recall over brakes can't remember when but was a issue.
  12. I make my own breech flags 12" bright orange cable ties with on of my wife's large diabetic needle cases which I cut a slit into and thread the tie through in and out then lock the tie off, it is acceptable at both clubs I use on my semi's and bolt actions and highly visible, with the tie being 12" long I can push it right into the chamber or pull it out so still visible, I shoot alone on a farm ,on occasions if I see some one or talk to the farmer I empty what gun I have and pocket the cartridge if it is a rimfire mag is pulled and chamber cleared ,that works for me,there is one other that is allowed on the farm but not for much longer do to his actions he drives around the whole area with up to 3 shotties loaded lent against the passenger seat or door his words "quick access" and that is how he leaves the farm, uncovered and no slips he reckons amongst his so called friends are the area Chief Constable and Firearms Manager??
  13. What Yanks don't realise all the arms and machinery left there + it was said the Taliban had captured 200 helicopters now who ever goes in will have a bigger fight on their hands ,should have never been sucked into it in the 1st place all the Brit lifes lost or injured for what so the Yanks could look for oil and minerals ,It is also known the Afganies have billions of money in banks etc but we will still give 'em handouts ,this countries own should come first ,the doors should be closed there will be enough of them already here known as sleepers just waiting to kick off here mark my words, would not trust them as far as I could throw them.British lives will not change their ways and ideologies. Hope they take a bag of Covid dust for each kilometer they build , that could be the easiest way to sort out the problem there and freely distributed.
