  1. Agreed, the point is they no longer use it and are moving away where they can,
  2. Just responding to a person who had concerns about lead water pipes? do you find that a problem ? providing people with evidence where they have genuine concerns, its an evidence based response nothing more. its a copy and paste from the point of reference. The orgs have requested a move away from plastic wads, obviously a ban would have been impossible due to the lack of products but now we are in a far greater place. Out of interest what exactly is a "proper" alternative? The idea of a transition is so that you can work through your stockpile so keep going ...
  3. Lead is a serious threat to public health, long term exposure is known to be associated with conditions such as hypertension, renal disease, digestive diseases, and cognitive decline. Lead is capable of crossing the placental barrier, harming the foetus, and is known to cause developmental delay and learning difficulties in children. Lead (in the form of tetraethyl lead) was previously used as a petrol additive. Thankfully, leaded petrol has been banned in the UK since 1999 after the health and environmental impacts became clear. Historically, lead has been added to paint as a pigment and to accelerate drying. The UK has also banned the use of lead in domestic paint since 1992. As lead is corrosion resistant, malleable, and ductile, it has been used in the manufacture of pipework ever since ancient times. As the toxic nature of lead has become better understood its use in plumbing has been banned in many countries. In the UK the use of lead pipes has been banned since the 1970s Despite the use of lead pipes in new houses being prohibited, millions of houses in the UK are still plumbed with dangerous lead pipes that pose a measurable risk to human health. Water companies commonly add orthophosphate to our drinking water as a plumbosolvency agent. The orthophosphate binds to lead pipes and helps prevent the harmful metal from dissolving into the water. Adding tonnes of phosphate to our drinking water each year may be cheaper than replacing all of the country's lead pipes, but it’s not infallible and errors in dosing have previously been reported. One common misconception is that drinking water is safe if the amount of lead is less than the amount stipulated in the drinking water standards, the World Health Organization has stated that there is no safe limit for lead. In the UK the drinking water standard for lead has reduced significantly as we learn more about its harmful effects. The UK water supply regulations introduced in 1989 set the limit for lead to 50 ppb (µg/l), this was reduced to 25 ppb in 2003 and further reduced to our current limit of 10 ppb in 2013. In 2020, the European Parliament adopted the revised drinking water directive that commits the EU members to a limit of 5 ppb by 2036. https://thewaterprofessor.com/blogs/articles/lead-pipes hope that helps
  4. There isn't, as per the below https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/lead-poisoning-and-health Key facts Exposure to lead can affect multiple body systems and is particularly harmful to young children and women of child-bearing age. Lead in the body is distributed to the brain, liver, kidney and bones. It is stored in the teeth and bones, where it can accumulate over time. Human exposure is usually assessed through the measurement of lead in blood. Lead in bone is released into blood during pregnancy and becomes a source of exposure to the developing fetus. There is no level of exposure to lead that is known to be without harmful effects. Lead exposure is preventable.
  5. Why didn't you invite BASC to your AGM. this can be arranged. then all questions can be answered transparently .
  6. interesting what did you need hep with ?
  7. which was unacceptable and detrimental to the majority of its membership Quite a bold statement, I am interested to know how you know this? Just what damaging agenda do you think is being pushed ? Fiddled compulsory membership ? you are funny, you do not wild fowling clubs have a choice to be members or not?
  8. BASC ? when did BASC call for a lead ban ? https://basc.org.uk/an-update-on-the-five-year-transition-towards-sustainable-ammunition/ if you look at that link you will see that there are a number of organisation supporting a transition away from lead shot.
  9. Its always amuses me how many users here comment on BASC saying what they are doing is wrong, and yet are not members, the ironic thing is that all of those non members will still reap the rewards of the work undertaken by BASC. BASC represent all shooting, and they act for all shooters, a few examples of this are; 1, Pigeon shooting, Back in 2020 when the GL was revoked, BASC got hem turned around and now we are all still using this licence to control woodpigeons. 2, Wildfowling, BASC support many clubs and thousands of members to retain consent allowing them to go wildfowling 3, Young shots and Ladies days - BASC lead the way in providing opportunities for literally thousands of people introducing the to shooting each year. 4, BASC have challenged the restrictions/ban on the use of lead ammunition for all outdoor shooting presented by the HSE. Yes of course they represent game shooting and game shooters, of course this will need support and for all organisations to act when needed, that is why you see the NGO, BGA, CA, CLA, GWCT all raising awareness to the issues around GL43. I'm not quite sure why you think 22lr and airguing will disappear? and when will the price of cartridges double ? and more to the point why ? The result of C19 is that there are significant delays in licensing across the country, then with the ongoing issues on Devon and Cornwall new guidance was issued meaning all departments had to undertake medical verifications this is why you see cert number declining over the last couple of years.
  10. Are you a BASC member ? BASC take legal action against DEFRA https://basc.org.uk/basc-to-commence-legal-challenge-against-defra/
  11. And yet, you, the chairman of a wildfowling club, disaffiliated from BASC still ask BASC ....how ironic....
  12. if that were the case only Belgium brownings are real brownings.. forget those Japanese things...🤪
  13. Can anyone tell me the difference between a ‘big bag’ day and an average bag day? Yes, There is no difference. all are good, if done well and inline with best practice.
