  1. A number of factors help determine if an MRI is safe for you if you have pieces of metal in your body. They include where the metal is, its size, its shape, and whether it's near a vital organ or structure. At Yale Medicine, you might get an X-ray first to answer those questions. “The vast majority of the time, there’s no problem and we’ll go right ahead and do the MRI scan,” Dr. Weinreb says. But the scan may not be possible if the metal is lodged near the eye or an artery in the neck. In those situations, the danger is that the metal might heat up and damage sensitive tissues. Basically they X-ray you first .... and in most cases never a problem it goes straight ahead.
  2. Answers like that is what gives shooting a bad name no one is planning a ban, a transition too non toxic has been requested, the trouble is you seem to want to ignore the facts. Many birds may have died through lead ingestion that you have shot.. you wouldn't know. A GWCT study published in 2005 found that 4.5% of discovered dead birds contained lead shot in their gizzards and estimated that 1.2% of living wild grey partridges contained ingested lead shot at any one time. Other UK studies report similar findings in pheasants and red-legged partridge but do not record impacts on bird health and welfare. A Canadian study found elevated levels of lead in American woodcock that were traced back to lead shot ingestion. on top of this still around 100,000 waterfowl die each year in the uk due to ingestion if that doesn't make you think we need to do something well ...... Thanks Conor very useful .
  3. Yes i am sure the gun is very nice but if there is a ban the gun you choose to only shoot lead though will be no longer of use, therefore you are better of shooting steel through it, steel works well enough and is cheap. Its not about people dying ? its about lead being toxic and that makes people seriously ill. It also causes the death of many birds each year. if there is something else then we should use it. Key facts from WHO Lead is a cumulative toxicant that affects multiple body systems and is particularly harmful to young children. Lead in the body is distributed to the brain, liver, kidney and bones. It is stored in the teeth and bones, where it accumulates over time. Human exposure is usually assessed through the measurement of lead in blood. Lead in bone is released into blood during pregnancy and becomes a source of exposure to the developing fetus. There is no level of exposure to lead that is known to be without harmful effects. Lead exposure is preventable. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/lead-poisoning-and-health Keys Fact from GWCT on Wildbirds How big is the problem? Recent published estimates (2015) suggest 50,000-100,000 wildfowl die each year from lead poisoning in the UK, with between 200,000 and 400,000 thought to suffer welfare effects from ingestion or through embedded lead. https://www.gwct.org.uk/policy/briefings/lead-ammunition/ Have a read....
  4. I suggest you shoot steel with a biodegradable wad when they are available or bismuth . or get a new gun.. if you want to continue to shoot that is... of course.. seems not so?
  5. Browning 525 always a winner sturdy relatable and cheap enough
  6. Thats fair enough Scully. you have expressed that you are also unhappy with NGO and leaving or left them also. Exactly my point. if you are not satisfied you can leave. failing that give them a call and discuss it as you said things can change in these organisations you have sat on committees enough to know that. if you all speak to your rep you may get change ??
  7. Patronising ? no quite the opposite. I feel if you have an issue with BASC you should call your local rep and discuss it. if you do not like the answer you can complain or you can leave. if we spent as much time talking to the orgs rather than sitting on a forum complaining to each other it may actually achieve something. I called my rep and I also dialled into the AGM and found it useful to clarify some areas i was unsure of.
  8. As i said i spoke to me regional team, thats what the service is for. a lady kindly explained why the insurance was removed it makes sound business sense to me. I am suggesting you do the same, you will never get the interaction you desire through social media. statements were posted not 121 dialogue. i do not think the insurance will ever be a regrettable decision as the cost is only ever going to go one way i was told it went form 250k to 400k and now 1mil. who's to say next year its not 2 million then 3 then 4 . you have to draw a line. that seems to be what they have done . sounds sensible to me.
  9. I dialled in for the AGM, the fees weren't put up last year, this year and not being put up next year. also the fees for the LEI want up by 400k last year this wasn't passed to the members. if you get a chance to see the AGM notes or video it is worth looking at . clarified lots of concerns for me and now we have a fighting fund set aside for court cases. yes i am with you i understand, although i feel that if they didn't fight for us we wouldn't be shooting at all...
  10. The real point here is that the gripes of a few people (mostly the same ones) on these pages are moaning about BASC and yet they say they are not members??? therefore it will have no impact to BASC whats so ever. Yes its their opinion and they are entitled to it, however the opinions seem to pushed onto whomever disagrees with you. There are no facts coming form this thread at all- BASC have removed legal expenses cover because it was increasing at an alarming rate making it unviable for the membership. If that sounds like a poor decision to anyone that was a member ( not the ones who are not) you can leave. The truth is that BASC are the largest organisation who is doing the most for shooting. just because you do not like what they are doing doesn't mean it wrong. Just maybe thats why you do not work for a shooting organisation.? I suggest if you are a member speak to your local team and see what is happening you may well be surprised as i was and how much they are doing. if you are not a member ... well ... I need say no more.
  11. Congratulations Ann all of that and just think how much worse it would have been if BASC didn't fight for us... blimey... I am super chuffed
  12. Just left the AGM and BASC have set aside a 7 figure fighting fund to fight for shooting https://basc.org.uk/basc-launches-legal-fighting-fund/ Fantastic work BASC 👍
  13. Have you seen this ? BASC launch 7 figure fighting fund..... maybe thats where the extra funds will go and we will be better off for it .. https://basc.org.uk/basc-launches-legal-fighting-fund/ They have not saved a million they have put it to a fighting fund .... https://basc.org.uk/basc-launches-legal-fighting-fund/
  14. so boycotting manufacturers of shooting clothing brands because they do not support us - how do they not support us ? I would think that many are trade members of organisations paying towards the protection of shooting. Making enemies within the industry seems your way - this is not the way forwards.
  15. Ok, If a stern letter is not good enough. what do you suggest is. I am intrigued as to what you expect organisations to do other than to try to persuade decision. This is done by setting out the evidence / benefits of shooting. also that they represent x thousands of people.
  16. I have read them, people are not happy that the LEI cover has been removed ( fair enough ) although it doesn't bother me if i want legal cover I will go and get it.. funny if all the orgs are so bad how come they are still going ? its because to the majority of shooters care about promotion of shooting not just insurance.... its clear that you are anti shooting orgs - its clear that i am pro them. we will never agree. however your way shooting will end a lot quicker I can live with that
  17. You will, you fail to see all the good these organisations do. you focus on the bad and that will divide the shooting community and make us all a lot worse off for it. Shooting is under attack it is no longer the norm therefore representation is crucial not only at challenging campaigns but at educating the wider audience. The shooting orgs do that very well... that is what keeps us afloat.. this is not the time to stop bailing.
  18. laughable, without any of them you will have no shooting.. open your eyes man
  19. 🤣🤣👍 For what its worth, I think you should be able to shoot as and when you need too . after all pest control is a job (a very good one)👍
