  1. Accident or natural causes? Have not seen a report. One of the great drivers.
  2. As Lloyd says. The last four pups I had I reared them on Chudleigh food. Puppy to start and then onto Working Crunch but there are numerous alternatives out there. The puppeis also had a small amount of quality mince mixed with the puppy food as they got older.
  3. Great dogs, real characters, hope you find one. A friend had one and she was as gentle as they come. QAnother friends GSP dog took a fancy and kept annoying her. I arrived late to the incident but met my GSP friend carrying his dog across his shoulder and one ear of the dog was half missing. It returned from the local vet with a purple bandage round it's head and I am sure I saw the Chessie laughing along with the rest of us.. She had, in one sharp snap bitten the ear off and then to rub it in she ate it.
  4. Well done anyway. We have seen a sudden drop of of birds visiting our feeders. The one at the house normally needs topping up every three days and the 7 tables down the wood almost every day peanuts wise. The peanuts are still getting hit by the tit families but everyhting else other than three fat woodpigeons and a robin have vanished. We used to get at least 20 -25 house sparrows come in en masse and a family of gold finches, all vanished. At first thought the sparrow hawk had been though and put them off but now almost three weeks at least same circumstances. Hope it is not the dreaded flu.
  5. Just a smear of WD40 on the GAEP makes a better job, doesn't tend to grab or burn.
  6. I use a GAEP for my 410s. Just mount it in my bench drill. Folkestone Engineering supply them.
  7. Best ask one of the American members on here, from the horses mouth so to speak. I have done a fair bit of dove and wildfowling in Texas but on a very large private ranch we rented at the time. We just purchased the necessary game licenses. Beeware the 'planted' bird shoots where you agree a number of birds for the 'hunt' and almost minutes before you reach the cover the birds will be released and in some really bad cases actually be in cages which can be remotely opened as you approach. If you do find a place then call in at Cabelas and buy yourself a pair of snake chaps as you might upset a 'wriggly stick' or two. I'm sure our American members will have better info.
  8. I was interested to read about the new fangled Matrix headlight system which enables you to drive on main beam all the time and it automatically creates an area covering the approaching lights instead of dipping. Very clever. Car lighting offences are now so prevalent you have to be on guard at all times. One serious danger is parking without lights and of course if the owner hasn't cleaned the reflectpors then they will not work anyway. I see so many offences on a twenty mile journey these days which would have collected a ticket or a warning, but there is no law out there to do it. As one mid service officer said to me last year..."We're just social workers these days".
  9. Heavens, I have not seen one of those for many years. Had one back in early 80s and thought what a good anti burglar tool they would make.
  10. I had the same problem but fortunately had a friend in the USA and he shipped them for me. I ordered and had them delivered to him.
  11. Made time this morning although blustery 15mph wind did not help. Bottom shot was a sighter because my old AA S200 is set for a different distance and did not want to alter things other than shot a touch higher for the three shot group. Not bad for a a second hand rifle maybe some 20yrs or more old. Dead tree rat and that's what counts.

    BASC Calendar

IF you need to check zero every day then you would be better going and buying another rifle. Calendars have become yesteryear these days with mobile phones.
  13. The little Β£600 Yilditz O/U 410 I have at the moent. So pleased I purchased a second one.
  14. Once knocked in the ground it will not be noticed and the weight might juist add a little weight to the base.as well. Unfortunately as you well know there is a limit to what you can do to keep him from harm. I suppose a round bale on each side for him to fall on might be a good idea. Hope we all get a munty backstrap...or two.... for all this caring and safety advice Dougy.
  15. I have some 3/4 solid bar in 25-30 inch lengths. I could drill one end for you and then four of those driven in as Diugy says, they only need tp pin each corner down stop it tippling over in the wind or worse still whilst your up there.
  16. As London Best would say...NAIL ON HEAD. The whole system is a joke.
  17. I have a Wraith on my 22 centre fire and it works perfectly. I did struggle a bit to get it set up but now it is spot on. Bear in mind I am not computer/tech savvie which may have slowed down the set up some.
  18. Yup, who's going to train the owner?
  19. Give me a call. If your motor has a tow hitch you can borrow my small trailer. Can I suggest you make the front rail swing out so you can easily get up and turn around, then swing it back and lock it in position. I have a lean to tree leaner which does just that and makes life much easier. NOW DON'T GO FALLING OUT OF THE ################## THING.
  20. I have two Clearviews which have ash pans beneath the burn grid. They have two means of letting air in. One from the bottom which is to get the starting wood to burn and ignite small logs to start with. Once there is dancing flames shut that down and open the front airflow and this canbe fully open or closed down to slow the burn. I don't understand the term top opening. It sounds to me that she is trying to burn damp/wet timber a classic description.
  21. ........then you have the one eyed monsters that look like motorcycles coming toward you. In my time on the beat they were good fodder for the little reperation ticket, get it mended and report to your local nick in seven days or you get a fine.
  22. Another(the 12th in a week) off the farm yard flip top this afternoon. 3488
  23. On every shoot I have been on this year the owners have asked not to shoot woodcock as a rule but if you want one to eat then shoot one. Most days they have just had a hat raised. I think as nornal Packham is out of touch with reality.
  24. OH!! OH!! OH!!!!! at the smell of Castrol R I go into Toad of Toad Hall girations. Used it in my Mini race engine back in the sixties. Ref electricary cars I see there where 3hr lines waiting to charge on some holiday routes.
