  1. Nice!! Two years ago I wound some thick baling twine around two young hazels in my wood and checking them today they are beginning to make a mark. I think it may take another two to be ready for cutting. Patience is a virtue in stick making.
  2. Has anyone tried a squirrel decoy? .....now don't collapse in uncontrollable laughter .... I'm serious. There are some very good look alike cuddly toys on the market but I had considered skinning one I shot and making a model for it to fit on, maybe even put a small battery operated motor in it to wiggle the tail. Put this on or close to a feeder and maybe use a caller as well. ANYTHING to kill tre rats!!
  3. I have to ask, why are we so worried about people who decide to leave these shores and make a home on the Continent ? IF, they have to live over there because their employment takes them there then that is a bit different but if I suddenly decided to up sticks and move to Spain or New Zealand for that matter on more or less a permanent basis I would not expect any special treatment. They obviously want their cake and eat it.
  4. 100% could not have put it better.....ask the relatives of those killed by Exocets in the South Atlantic ..see what response you get.

I use mine from a high seat purely as a spotter, then use the amber LightForce which is mounted on my rifle. Pinch the wifes golf trolley battery for power on that
  6. 100% I see some Remaining Group is re hashing the old line of illegal expenses to try and make believe the vote was illegal so making it null and void. What about the 9 milliion/billion whatever it was Cameron spent sending out all those pro EU leaflets ?? They are all now starting to panic and will try anyhting to de rail it. I understand he is a Canadian ???????????????? Is this true and if so what the devil is he doing in that job.

I purchased one which re charges which is superb and certainly as effective as the Loghtforce ones I already have which plug into or connect to a 12 volt supply. It is so much easier in the vehicle and outside. It last a long time on a full charge. Otherwise the smaller Lightforce is the answer. Have two but not selling.
  8. I must admit it is difficult sometimes to see where another £3 to 4 hundred pounds goes into some of these things. It really is not rocket science.
  9. Apart from the weight then what don't you like about it? (If your going to poke a bear etc etc.....)
  10. All of them No, the only one I have handled in the shop is the BSA with the laminate stock. Very handy.
  11. They had warnings about the design/materials etc a long time ago and basically ignored them. The powers that have now atken over..ok they are for getting out of the EU anyway....have put some of the blame on the constraints on spending put on by the EU. Some very very lucky people though. The family who had to make a pit stop for toilet made them 10 mins later reaching the bridge and the green van driver only yards from the edge. I did hear it was accepted as an additional 'tax'
  12. CHOICES CHOICES repeat for ever The S200 I have is the early two piece wood stock model and shoots very well indeed. It has the little 'screw' on the side of the action which I am told ismlinked to upgrading. As said to mess about might ruin what is at the moment a cracking little rifle. I shoot almost always from relatively small purpose built cabins or pop ups and a rifle longer than the S200 is a pain to move around, even the TX200 HV with a mod on is on the limit. The bullpups therefor look inviting.
  13. The S200 I have could be but all the advice I have had is it is not a good idea. No , if I go FAC it will bethe real deal. May sell one of my others, doubtful it would be the TX200.
  14. Many thanks. Was not doubting one bit that you had done the work on it. Soooo, it is the make up of the pellet and it's design which dictates penetration. I shoot Barnes TTSX all copper bullets in my 375JDJ and 8x57 and 257 RRI Wildcat and those bullets penetrate much better than 'normal' bullets. SOOOOOOOOO ???? a) FAC 177 or 22 b) what pellet ???? Short compact rifle choice ...sensible price ????????????????????????????
  15. Hmmmm????? Not doubting your expertise one little bit but what penetration tests have you done to support this? If I hit a nail gentle like it will go in so far, if I give it a good clout it will go in further so me being totally uneducated on these matters would think a pellet travelling half as fast again would penetrate further ??????
  16. Yes, source some Tanalised pressure treated timber, decking timber is an idea. You can get it ready planed. Make sure it is pressure treated as some has not been, just painted on the outside.
  17. Still mulling over an FAC rifle although my style of tree rat control is ambush based on flip tops and pheasant feeders at relatively close range and a 22 pellet out of my S200 goes through and out the other side no problem. BUT on occasion I have hit a feral pigeon, even a magpie out at 40yrds and it has not done a clean job where I think an FAC rifle would BUT would also go in and out of a tree rats head at 10 to 15yrds sitting on a flip top. SOOOOO!!! Yes, I do think I will be looking this autumn/winter but need a short compact rifle.

Was that the A65 Beeza ? Did my training on one of those in 1964 at Stafforshire Police HQ. Saved my life many many times did that course. Only visited that area a couple of times but enjoyed every minute of it.
  19. I take it your talking 'bullets' ...don't recognise the term 'head'. I don't have any for sale.
  20. Who said the 204 is not lawful??? Ditch the 22RF and ask for a 17HMR unless you have certain jobs which require aboslute silence then the 17HMR will do anyhting the 22RF will do unless you like killing paper targets then the 22RF is cheaper. I really do not see a need for two centre fire 22s and the FEO may also look at it that way too. My view it is best to go for the 223 initially as far as a fox or a muntie is concerned they will not notice the difference if it was a 22-250. Have owned and used both but my centre fire 22 is now a 22 Bench Rest ...2BR for short. The trick is if you are on your first application then get yourself on license, then you can always upgrade with a lot less trouble latter. The 308 Win is as good an all round sporting /target calibre as you can get and target shells are relatively cheap. Easy to reload for hunting purposes.
  21. To be honest the worlds your oyster there are numerous choices. Check out your local air rifle specialist shop/s and have a look. I initially purchased a TX200 springer and it is still here, great rifle BUT there are occasions where a PCP and a magazine can be helpful when multi shots get offered and need speedy action. I purchased probably one of the simplest, a AA S200 with 10 shot mags second hand and it has proved well capable ...check out my returns on tre rats and magpies on here...most have been with the S200 .22. I also sort barn pigeons and it is more than capable doing that as well ...another case where you might get two or even three chances in quick succesion. I would lean towards a .22 for pigeons although the TX200 .177 will knock 'em down out to 30yrds with the heavier 10gr pellets. Hawke AirMax take a lot of beating scope wise.
  22. Agree entirely with this. I have the 455.... plastic stock, and it is a tack driver. Advise sticking an AirMax Hawke on it as with the side adjustment you can easily finely tune the picture and as the 17HMR is a rifle capable of do the job from a few yards out to 200yrds this is very useful. The two tree rats I shot yesterday, one certainly the magnification and picture adjustment helped me to see it in the grass and brush at 100yrds. Could only see part of it's body but the precision of this round enabled me to precisely place the shot. I chose a black plastic stock because the 17HMR is a working tool not a Rembrant to hang on the wall.
  23. I always start the flip tops with peanuts and mixed them with peanut butter...just a 2 litre container almost full of peanuts and then pour half a jar of Aldi peanut butter on top and give it all a good mix so they are all covered in a greasy smelly covering. Having said that I have just four flip tops out at the moment and non of them are being hit hard. Something is visiting because the little wooden peg has been knocked out but very little food gone ..could be a woodpecker maybe. I will put the camera on the ones nearest home...the others are 70 miles away. Once they are being used I change over gradually to maize as it is much cheaper. Looks like we will have a bumper crop of walnuts this year so will take your advice and crush some of the smaller ones for tree rat bait. I have shot three youngsters in my own little 10 acres this week and they were all hitting the hazels and burying treasure. I have nine live catch cage/feeders in there but they have not been near them. Keep the faith and keep up the good work.
