  1. By all means go to another fourm or forums because there is a lot to learn.  I have owned three,  two with the V8 engine and one with a Nissan diesel engine which would pull a house down. Yes they do rust but in the main the earlier models where a lot like pre90 Defenders you could take them apart and rebuild them and finding parts was not at all difficult through a number of specialist dealers.   As said if I had the finacial spare then I would certainly go out and buy a pre '85 model just for fun. Pre 85 they where not to tarted up.  An original two door in good nick, would cost you an arm and a leg today.

I repeat...they where and in my view still are an icon in the 4x4 world and it took the opposition quite a while to get their breath and catch up.

  2. One of the first two Range Rovers in the USA. I had this one on loan for three weeks and this photo is taken 20 miles into the Rockies and at 5000ft with a Mule deer.

This one was below par due to the stuff put on the engine to meet US laws but still turned a few heads.

  3. Well I was there at the beginining so to speak because my patch included the Land Rover factory and in1971 I drove one of their development vehicles on an International Rally in Belgiium. The orghinals where way ahead of their time and then of course the women got involved and fancy carpets etc etc including gearbox changes etc etc came about.

I also owned a CSK model...only 100 made  Charles Spencer Kings  so CSK for the model. It needed a bit of work and I sold it for what I bought it for ....  a couple of thousand...one sold last year for close to 50 thou....   In the right hands there was nothing to touch them woth Craythorne winning the first Welsh Hill Rally and week before I went to Belgium with the same vehicle .....

I have owned four of them and agree they are better for having a V8 upfront but needs must and 49 mpg has it's advantages hence my present transport. OF I come up on Ernie in a big way then I would be looking for a well prepared ear;y model with no hesitation.

An ICON without doubt followed by all the other producers.

  4. Yup, simple answer buy a 410 and shoot around 19g of bismuth which will do all you need out to 45yrds if you do your bit and put it in ther pattern.

See my item on damaged game meat a few days ago where I have found more and more pheasants blown up with these crazy loads and the likes of Carrie et al pronouncing that this is what you MUST shoot.

  5. Yes, weasels mainlky go for smaller prey and amzingly moles are included. I had one pop out of a mole hole when walking in my orchard. Gave me a stare and scuutered off into the hedgerow,   Amazing little animal as are stoats.

    Have your birds returned Walker

We are seeing incredible results with our feeding regime

I just typed a whole list and it suddenly all vanished    so yes they have returned.

Anyone else have this happen?  Whole sections of print just vanish with maybe the last three words left ?????????????

  7. Love the stick, who wouldn't. Superb.

Regarading the 'SHOCK' yes I had a similar thing happen over 18 months ago now and went and had the full check up by a heart specialist, echo sounders, scans you name it and apart from a little bit of furring in one artery they said was age related (over80) they could not find anything else amiss. The Speciaiist said that sometimes a short sudden pain is just has he put it a 'hiccup' .   Hope your soon back on your feet.

  8. Whichever way then low and slow. Lots of vids on you tube from the southern States of the USA, OK the meat might be different but the result will be the same.

Try top barbecue in Texa to start with...........

the dacia duster seems to be a popular choice amongst the PW crew and has a bigger choice of engine options than it once did. I love my subarus but freely admit they aren't as cheap to run as others.

I have had my Duster now since October and apart from a problem sorted under warranty it has performed very well getting me out of a very sticky situation in 4x4lock even on normal street tyres.  At the moment averaging 49mpg small lanes and cross country runs and off road. Loads of room.  A warning light popped up yesterday and discovered it was telling me one of my tyres was down on pressure....now thatos a new one on me.   I purchased a plastic fitted tray for the rear and because I very rarely carry paasengers folded the rear sears and put a piece of rubber matting over them and I now have far more room than in my old LR90.  Horses for courses od course just what your requirements are...trailers etc etc.  My Duster is the 1.5 diesel and I am amazed at the torque from the engine and it handles very well also.

  10. Baically great hunting dogs whatever the coat, you just need to appreciate their attitude is somewhat different to labradors for instance. Owned both and ran both as a team.

Put in the time and you will have a great hunting companion.

  11. There is only one pollution on this planet of ours.....the elephant in the room...... I think is the modern reference.   Humans....too many of them and no one seems to have any interest in reducing or stabilzing the numbers.  In my 80 plus years I have seen small villages become small towns, roads clogged with traffic where once you saw two or three vehicles and all of this the product of humans reproducing.  Where will be be in another eighty years?

  12. Now how would veggies describe that because I notice all the stuff they artificially produce is listed a  'steak' or whatever.  If they want to eat exclusiveley vegetable diet then why use a meat eating description, sure that would put you off????????????????

  13. A good friend who rears old breed pigs gave me a large leg joint and this weekend we roasted it.  Have not eaten roast pork for a long time as not my normal choice but this was delcious. The remains I took from the bone , cut into 1/2 inch chunks and made up a spicy curry mix added some red beans and let it simmer for a couple of hours, rested overnight and then simmer again for a couple of hours on top of the log burner.   Large jacket potato split open and this mix poured over made another supperb meal. There was sufficent for two more meals and these where packed and in the freezer for future meals.   Did not have any apple sauce but did have a pot of date and apricote pickle I purchased over in Norfolk and this went very well with the roast and the fried chunks of potato and some dark green savoy cabbage alongside.

  14. I have shot over both types and owned a smooth coated who I saved as a 10 month old dog and who became a serious killing machine and never told a lie. Because I like smooth aired dogs my choice would be that way but the wire haired I have shot over have also been as good, it is all down to the owner and trainer as they can be hard headed and require a lot of time and patience.

Mole backing up my comments  on hard heaed attitude .... "did you call me for somthing?"

and in full flight over a five bar gate.

Photos from photos so not good quality.

  15. No shortage of yellow paint round here but that does not repair the road surface.  The A444 in North West Leicestershire is ridled with holes where the surface is actually peeling of. This is a very busy road feeding the M42/A42 and this damage has been present for six months to my knowledge. Still we will all have a whiz Bang railway to ride on ventually costing billions...just have to be able to drive over 30 miles to access this collasal waste of money.  One of our local lanes is closed next week for some modern high pressure water treatment but I bet they will not fill in the holes along the verges.  Many moons ago the edges of our lanes and footpaths would be cut back and tidied up in fact I remember a special small offset plough which went behind a T20 Fergy and did the job.  Too much money being spent on stupid electronic signs saying thank you for sticking to the speed limit.  A police motorcyclist tucked into a farm gateway was far more effective.  I could go on and on but what the heck I have to go out and risk my Dusters wheels.

  16. Never rated this bloke. I was at a Game Fair and on the BASC stand helping out.  Having a quick cuppa behind the scenes when another helper came in and asked Swift to present a proze to the best ferret owner who was a rough looking character I admit and Swift refused to present the prize. I wrote to BASC at the time and voiced my opinions....they have not changed.   He stepped into the job when the previous Chairman resigned.  Do not judge BASC on just one person.

Exactly, spot on and when oowee starts praising a Tory we KNOW we are up the creek without a paddle.

  19. My feders are empty in a week but they must be using them all hours because on my early morning visits very few are showing.  They will of course always find the best feed and I sippose acorns have always been a favoite.

  20. I have two fly tying books in as new condition which I will gladly despatch to an avid tyer of flies in ret8urn for them making at least a £10 donation to the Wild Trout Trust.

"The Book"   by Jimmy & Gloria Younger

This is paper back and was actually printed by Jimmy & Gloria themselves because they could not get anyone to print it for them. It contains a host of salmon and sea trout patterns and lots of advice on materials and tying.

"The New Illustrated Dictionary of Trout Flies"  by John Roberts.

If you cannot find a fly in this book which will catch you some trout then to best take up origami. It really should be alongside every tying vice.

I have spent a lifetime dressing flies, some 65 years I supose but I no longer tie or fish so these books need to go to someone who can glean some benfit.
