  1. I have two chainsaws which are no longer required. Stihl MS251 MS 230. They have both recently been serviced and not used since. I have recently purchased a Stihl battery model and have a Stihl 170 which are adequate for the small jobs I am likely to need a chainsaw for. £200 each or £350 for the two, collected from CV9 cash in hand. West Leicestershire. PM me here for any further details
  2. It isn't new. I had one turn up on our shoot to give a judgement on land suitability. It was 600 acres and had high seats in all the right places. He just looked at the Ordnance map and said oh there is a rail line there they make good back stops and cleared the ground. The old railway line was no longer there sonce early 60s and was on the same level as all the remainder. I got the impression he didn't have clue. It is seriously scary and as said that officer should be shown the door. Every clue was there for him to see. Mind, I understand the over educated senior staff of even the Met are now willing to employ officers who have difficulty in speaking the English language just to satisfy their wierd idea of diversity.
  3. Yep. walk out. However that shoot may not be up and running next season. Is it owner run or agency?
  4. Balance and fit are far more important. I agree with keeping it light and using sensible loads. I breasted a hen pheasant this week and it had eleven shot hits and three where al,most in the same place and look like 4s. Went as fox bait. As you most likely all know, I now shoot exclusively a 410 and 18.7 grains of #6 Bismuth and if I do my job it will do birds out to 40-45yrds no problem and is a joy to carry. in edit....just learned that the supposed #6s are in fact #5 size....still do the job.
  5. Whatever turns you on. I was not born with flippers so stay away from it if I can. A carefull wade to cast a fly is my limit.
  6. About the same as 'heads' I always thought they where bullets.
  7. I have vague memories of news items covering it. Thirteen at the time and I believe we had just got ourselves a TV or I saw it on the 9inch model my grandfather had.
  8. Out at dawn this morning on the Pear Tree feeder where I dumped the squirrel in the feeder. They had knocked the lid off again which indicated they had been inside. I put it back on and scraped the remains of the feed out on the platform. Only been back in my IBC hide a few minutes and the first arrived...WHACK!!!..from the recently serviced AA S200 ( it was leaking like a sieve they said). I had barely fed another pellet in when I saw a flash of movement and a fox dived in and grabbed the dead squidge and carried out onto the field and began tp eat it. Another squidgy appeared on the feeder and got the same as the first. The ifrst fox looked back towards me and then another big dark almost black fox walked within about 15yrds ands vanished in the wood. Then a third squisge appeared and was welcomed by the AA S200. Just minutes afterwards a third fox went running from behind me obviously picked up my scent. Definite a different one as this one was bright red coated with a distinctive white tail top. Definitely need to get out after dark more often obviously. MY old AA S200 I love it because of the flat bottomed square forend. It just sits in the shooting table in the hide waiting patiently. Now after it's full service and new seals and valve at the front for filling, it is ready for many more outings to come.
  9. I am more than happy folks are willing to pay for large bag days because many of those estates today also appreciate the small 60 to 120 bird days to mop up the boundaries and adds to the Keepers well earned tips. ALSO the smaller days are so much more fun with banter with beaters and pickers up who also enjoy the days better. Just had two sixty bird days and enjoyed every minute and as my wife said tonight , things will go very flat for a week or two now our season is over.
  10. Try Premier Game Days. I don't think he is doing very small days yet in Norfolk, usually around 150. I've shot with him now for five years and more than satisfied. Just finished my season yesterday with a day at Prestwold Hall and the word was that prices are going up for next season....inevitable.
  11. How many years have we been using lead shot? How many recorded deaths from lead poisoning from lead shot? At creeping up to 83 years of age I was reared and have eaten game all my life shot with lead shot, creaking at the joints a bit these days but still able to sit here and type this. I can honestly say in all the meats shot with lead I have eaten over the years, I have never actually found a single pellet. Regarding Carrie, I can't stand the bloke either and would be asking for my money back if drawn next to him having watch his poaching of neighbours birds.
  12. Ditto. I shoot 410 all the time and looked for a good English side by side back six seven years ago but failed. I then had to revert and buy an Over/Under and purchased a Yilditz which I have now shot for errrrr over five years and am well pleased. If I do my part it will do the job in spades.....ask any of the beaters and the Keeper at Prestwold who witnessed a cock pheasant fold at 40yrds yesterday on the final drive of the day. Yes, it would be nice to find a nice English SBS but for around £600 I believe you cannot beat these Yilditz 410 models and I was shooting 16gr of #6 Eley Bismuth.
  13. As an ex tactical firearms chap we learned to shoot weak eye weak hand and both shoulder mounted guns and handgun. It is not that difficult once you have educated your brain to do as you wish. As said above go and do some clays, simple going away to start with and don't expect it to drop into place straight away as old habits are hard to get out of your mind. The MAJOR important issue is the correct fit of your gun, does it mount easily to the shoulder for a start....wearing your normal game shooting coat....pick a spot 50yrds away, mount and see if the gun looks on target..DO NOT AIM IT...the movement should all drop into place without all the fancy artsy ####cy gismos stuck on barrels these days. If you don't agree then just point your finger at something out there ...do you AIM your finger ...does it have all those ornaments on it because if the gun fits then you should look at the bird and the gun should naturally follow your gaze. Point your fimnger..left or right hand and your brain will do the rest if you let it. Hope this helps and you get to enjoy your shooting more.
  14. Well, we call our surgery the A Team. They will always go that extra mile. There is little doubt Docturs surgeries are under pressure from above. I have a hip problem and rang for an appoinment explaining it was not urgent. My normal Dr at the surgery was end of Feb but one of the other members could see me in 14 days. I know from tslking with my Dr that I could be seen tomorrow if urgent as he said if they get a call from us they know it is what it is. My wife was talking to a surgery nurse who said they had over 30 cancellations or no shows at their surgeries in one day and that is where the trouble lies in my view. Another nurse took a family member into a local Aand E and spoke with another woman who said she was there for eye drops which you can buy fromthe chemists shop. Only when such are subject to a financial penalty will things get sorted.
  15. Aconites and snowdrops are in flower in our wood today and daffoldils are pushing up flower buds.
  16. Agree. Unfortunately there are still criminal elements within the Keepering fratenity who will break the law and eventually lose all of us our right to go shooting.
  17. Heh!!! Isn't the UK overall just a great place to live....at the moment...give it 25 yrs and it will be....well I can't say here because the Mods will leap on me from a high poimnt. The UK is so diverse. I have hunted and shot over Caitness and the West Cioast. Mull of Kyntyre and South Esk for salmon. Lake District for pheasant and roe and stags, Devon and Cornwall for sea and fresh water fish, Norfolk for pheasant and best of all partridge with a foray on the Wash for geese, not to mention Wales where I ran a pheasant/partridge shoot for seven years and also shot grouse , snipe, woodcock etc etc etc in both north and south. Been to a few places overseas but always more than happy to return to these shores. How long it will last is anybodies guess.
  18. AA S200 break barrel woll shoot far better than you can. If your not happy with your rifle then that would be my choice. You do not mention distance.. A pigeons head is quite a bit smaller than a tree rat. I have a PCP and use a dive bottle to top it up. but rue the day I sold my AA S200 177. Carefull shooting from a good rest at targets at set ranges measured with a tape will give you the hild over etc.
  19. Far better if the air is inlet through about 11ft of inner tubing so heating it up and then injecting it down the face of the glass and into the fire as per Clearview. Our Clearview keeps the whole house(built 1650s) warm and will consume about 6 decent size logs(15 inch by 5 inch) from 4pm to 11p. The secret of burning wood is being certain it is dry and matured for at least a couple of years preferably under cover. Ash, hawthorn, sycanore and oak being my first choice but poplar will burn well when fully dried but will not last long. Hawthorne is my favorite but unfortunately doesn't grow into large sizes. Our Clearview will burn for six evenings, 6 hrs each evening, before the tray needs emptying and the ash is just fine dust. Nothing beats just sitting by a log fire. On edit... once a year I lift the top off ours to check above the top plate and usually there is about a cup full of fine grey dust to clean out. Checking the chimney plate also reveals that the lined chimney is still like new.
