  1. Please forgive me for asking, but what exactly are they / are they used for? They look superb - excellent craftmanship.

    Aperture sights

Any Feinwerbau model 60X air rifle sights should fit that gun.
  3. Just opened one of the last bottles from this batch (2years old now). Very dry, but still lovely! Brewing some nettle beer this weekend (the snow meant that there were still plenty of fresh nettles) and will be doing 60 ltrs or so of Elderflower in a couple of weeks.
  4. Is it me or is there a really, really fat wood pigeon at the back of the photo. Cue obligatory fat sarah joke!
  5. Total ignoranamus here, but how do you go about getting the swirling / Damascus steel effect when working the steel?
  6. Tel Aviv is a great place to visit, Jerusalem is cool for the historical elements but as a place to stay, its not a patch on TA. I didn't go down as far as Eilat, but was in and out of many 'off the map' regions (poorer areas and Arab areas) and never had a problem.
  7. Unless you want some medical leave!
  8. In a way it makes some sense - every weapon is a loaded weapon and will always be. That has an impact in how they are viewed /handled
  9. Go to mail-tester.com and send a copy of the email to that. That will give you a spam score along with remedies which will help make sure that your rest of the mails work
  10. Back in the bad old days, when there was a border in NI, there were regular checks of cars going North / South. One of the colleges in Dublin, had a student rifle club and they were on a trip to a competition in Comber. Got through the border ok, made it to the match and had a good time. On the way home, they were stopped again at the border. Got through fine. The soldiers wanted to check serial numbers against permits so they went through the collection. When unloading the car back in college, they found an 'extra' gun in the boot. About 30 minutes later, an NI car with some squaddies turned up, asking for their rifle back!
  11. POst up the failure report. That is the key to understanding why the emails aren't being sent. Strip out the to / from
  12. I don't understand how he didn't get manslaughter. He was reckless and knowingly so. He must have had a great Brief.
  13. BBC used to (might still?) have something for iPlayer where you could watch the programs when you weren't based in the UK, for a small fee.
  14. We pay a TV licence. Don't think it goes back to the UK. You can get freesat pretty much anywhere in Europe. Same as if you have a Sky account, you can bring your box/card with you to Spain, and get it there if you have a dish set up. BBC Radio is always a pleasure when driving up North.
  15. Which is the reason for this post - there is a new, independent commissioner coming in, basically with that mandate But given this is a forum where people a) shoot and b) hold more traditional views towards policing and crime (views which I agree with), I was interested in seeing if people had any thoughts on what Sir Bernie is like?
  16. The Republic (police are called the 'garda'. The commissioner here resigned this week (to a full a pension and lump payment of €300k) after it was revealed millions of breath tests were faked, millions of euro were missing, whistle blowers had child sex allegations logged against them, smear campaigns against people who spoke about corruption in the force and politicians who asked public questions had 'run ins' with the police made public (ie, you were stopped on suspicion of drunk driving and there would just happen to be a camera crew waiting with the guards).
  17. Former commissioner of the Met, looking like he will be running the Irish police force. Known / Unknown / good / bad feelings about him from the members here?
  18. major science. I remember dynamic manifold equations back in college. Couldn't figure them out then, still haven't the foggiest. Back on topic - just reiterating the advice of having a couple of shut off valves on the way of the pipe. We have this and it made fixing a leak a lot easier then trying to figure out where the issue was (however, given the issue was one of the valves themselves, I'm not sure if this counts...)
  19. Thanks guys. Varnish only on the stick I think. Any suggested brand of epoxy? Will look to see if I can get the copper tubing, failing that the the thread should look well.
  20. Unfortunately, herself managed to break the stick that I bring with me when I'm in the fields (really trying hard not to write something that you take the wrong way). The wood split just where the antler is screwed in. Is this fixable? I'm guessing that some wood glue and then something to bind the split? Any recommendations / advice?
  21. Don't forget that a .22lr that is 'supersonic' only for a short distance from the barrel. After 20/30m or so (for most brands) it comes back through the supersonic threshold. I've always found that this adds instability to the round, which means its very hard (I would say practically impossible) to group well at 75/100m when compared to subs, whose trajectory is more stable. Yes - the HP round will be moving faster then a sub for a given distance, but that difference isn't as much as people seem to think This was from http://www.ballisticsapp.com/22-ballistics.htm - you can see how the real differences between sub and hyper only start to materialize once the round is out past 150 yards and I doubt many of us are targeting live game at that range with a .22lr
  22. In short - yes. Border access is now a thing that has to be approved by the EU. I know that we had the agreements in place (and from my persepective - they worked very well for many years apart from some idiotic nordies wanting to play as soldiers) so they should fall back to as they were. But as things stand, the EU would need to approve and sign off on that (and that would be an agreement by all members of the EU needed)
  23. Herself was a jockey, I'll ask her to outline how they did up the schooling fences for you
