  1. Thanks Bungle - you could have an almost matching pair 😉
  2. Thanks Minky! It sure gets talked about on the shoots, everyone loves a sidelock! Are you sure you can't sneak one more into the cabinet? 😉
  3. -28" Barrels -14.5" LOP (to articulated front trigger) -1/4 and 1/2 fixed chokes. -2 3/4 Chamber -Right hand Cast -Hand detachable clips with gold-washed locks -Side clipped barrels and hidden 3rd bite. As I only shoot clays (and fair infrequently at that) this fine gun is somewhat wasted on me. It dates from the mid 1980's. The bores are very clean, I had the barrel thickness measured a few months ago and it was well within spec. Still retains its colour case hardening and is a very pretty gun indeed. In overall very nice condition with the exception of some light staining in the breech where the snap-caps have been sitting and a very small nick on the rib where it caught on the cabinet lock. Priced with the above marks taken into account (incidentally the next two cheapest AYA No.53's are £2,250 and £3,250) Please let me know if you'd like to take a look or have any further questions and many thanks for reading my listing, I'd love this gun to go to a home where it's used.
  4. Sorry Gents - I didn't know that a post had been made here my GunWatch - hence the very late reply. The gun is still available - I had a buyer for it however the deal fell through. I've uploaded lots of pictures here - note that there is a scratch in the rib - this I can only assume occurred from inside the gun cabinet as it's about the right height to have knocked against the inside lock. Pics can be seen here = https://photos.app.goo.gl/mp9GQUi2GHxv7nrq6 Due to this mark on the rib I am open to sensible offers (although it's already very keenly priced I should add 😉 ) I'm based near Chichester in West Sussex.
  5. Hi Figgy, merry Christmas. I'm only shooting clays currently (would love to try some rough shooting locally). I'm still awaiting the oils to arrive however I plan on adding to the finish whilst cleaning the gun after a shoot as Ishoot year round. M
  6. I think it was more a case of being a sprayed on lacquer finish which was deteriorating with age. It's been stripped back now though so a nice base to start with. I'm going down the traditional hand rubbed oil route.
  7. Well my friendly gunsmith stripped and refinished the gun as a Christmas present for me whilst he was adjusting the fit. Looks much better now. The grain is still quite open though so I will continue the finishing with some grain sealer and stock oil from napier.
  8. Yes certainly. I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow for you.
  9. Hi she's circa 1908, 2 1/2" chambers. I use Hull Comp X 65mm cartridges.
  10. Thanks, it's a lovely gun but now surplus to requirements since acquiring the No.53. I spoke to my local auction house and they seemed unenthusiastic to say the least (I think they prefer furniture/antiques). Taking it to a gun auction like Holts seems a lot of effort for a for a £4-£500 gun. To get it there and then pay fees I'd rather sell face to face and take an offer. I'm sure there's someone local that will give it a home.
  11. Just reduced to £450. Open for offers as I'd quite like to clear some cabinet space.
  12. Thanks @Gunman, excellent advice. I'm keen to get it looking top notch.
  13. Sounds like a plan, I'll try the wire wool method before a complete strip. I'm wondering if it was originally an oiled finish and someone has used a varnish based finish like Tru-oil on top which has reacted. I'll update with some pictures after I've had a go at it; might be a week or so as off to the gunsmith today for a check of gun-fit and necessary adjustments to be made. All the best, Mat
