  1. Cheers apreciated. Non plas loads . I have been looking at foil and paper wrappers . Made on a dowel in the chuck of my lathe and the tail stock. i made a roller off two pieces of dexion on the allen bolts on my tool post. and Tensioned by a bungie cord from the chip tray lip. i apply carpet adhesive to the foil as its rolling and then after 6 laps, i switch to plotter paper which i glue with flour and water Pase. AKA paper mache the chinese or the japs made armour from it. > it works, and i cut the wads with a UPVC pipe cutter it cuts them like butter and they spring back . secret is keeping things tight and letting it all cure. the paper foil laminate is tough and its not pin holing from what i can tell from picked up wraps. i am using felts 20ga nitro cards and a gas seal "Plastic" and getting good results. the Gas seal will go, but not sure on card inverted cup seals. at high pressures and velocity. I still want to run 1760fps reload i use, and the foil / paper wrap with the felt and gas seal is standing up to this. But card inverted cups are not being found. so not sure. FPS is 100fps down with the card cup seal, so guessing its vaporising internal ballistics wise. New wads could hopefully null and void my playing lets hope so. Dog is good, we took to one another right from the star. have other dogs, but he is my youngest at present at 3. he had a quiet last season, with just two outings his first year. I think the slow start has helped him, he was a bit headstrong and stubborn. but now he has mellowed and really come on. he is desperate for some action this season, dummy boredom is evident, but i am trying to keep it interesting for him, but running out of ideas now. I have put more hours into this dog than any other i ever owned, and it seems to be paying off. Time will tell. Lets hope season pans out as we would all like all the best for your season.
  2. Reallity is showing shooting in the uk today is indeed right there. bETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. But we are still here still going, so if not happy with BASC change it for the better.
  3. Then if they feel its infective, they must change it. its possible with BASC. Not funding it is just removing it and that wont work any better than having it fail them. get active change it.
  4. So lets assume all the above is fact. My question is What are the other options besides BASC that offer the same support knowledge base and infrastructure as basc and can be a viable voice for shooting in the UK today. WHO? WHAT?
  5. Shooters are never united, its the same the world over. The NRA in the states Charlton Heston etc. some just love to hate and haters are going to hate. BASC bashing is not new its been around for years, even though 90% here were never involved or even born in the WAGBI days, imagining they are looking over their shoulder at some halcyon days of yore when WAGBI ruled the waves. Real fact is WAGBI as an organisation could never have held a candle to BASC on a bad day never mind a good one. BASC if perfect or not"pick your poison"Are where we are at today. WE have nothing else to offer, If they are powerless we are powerless full stop. No sudden rallying call from any other organisation in existence or in the planning today is going to fight out corner better than BASC today. There really is no other practical up and running cab in town. The political scene now is complex, and we a minority sport of a controversial nature that is in itself hard to defend, has a lot of ground to make up in the PR stakes to appease the rank and file out there looking in at us. BASC has tried to change hearts and minds, as others in shooting have dome too, we as a community have some little victories , but these are just skirmishes nothing that could ever be described as a decisive battle . The BASC NAY sayers amaze me, its an organisation openly run as far as it needs to both from a legal standpoint and yet retaining its privacy to carry out political manoeuvres to combat challenges to our sport. BUT OH NO! These people want everything out there in the open on show for everyone to see ,plonked neatly here on pigeon watch so they can pick the bones out of it. Tell me one business that ever does this or ever could, how can they be competitive with the challenges they face, when the oposition knows their very next move in advance. ? i hope one day soon these people will wake up and realise, we all need BASC they are vital for our future. There just is not one other option out there to be the voice of shooting in the uk today. The
  6. Depends on size, best just try it and weigh it off. or count the pellets if you know the size calculate it from there. The shot size info top of page will give you an idea of shot pellet weight so you should be able to work it out easy enough.
  7. Time will tell the truth always does.
  8. With such a terrible year so far with covid19 etc, the Natural England consent issue was just what we did not need in wildfowling. With the negotiations and legal challenges very much ongoing, we are at present in uncertain times and all we can do is await development at this stage. Other than that i am looking forward to the season, i have a new Labrador more than ready to go after some productive training the lockdown provided the time for. I got all my reloading done for the seasom by mid APRIL this year again lockdown time. and this is a far cry from my usual knocking up a dozen rounds on the evening of the 31st of august. I am approaching this season all set to run one gun for everything, "that gun Browning gold 10 with .720 terror choke." . Ammo i reloaded all in Winchester cases, BBB steel BB Bismuth and loaded mainly for duck Pure copper 3s 3.5mm and Steel 2s3.81mm. Bismuth and copper are buffered and felt wad. Powders A 381 / Blue dot / PSB2/ vitavouri 110 and 3N38. I have some non plaswad loads in the development stage, but not this year unfortunately. All my Wildfowling so far is unaffected by the Natural England issue, and i have budgeted for 12 not my usual 6 trips up north this year. I never go up there a full week but normally 4 or 5 days which means i will still be busy this season. I have replaced my ancient POLAR caravan i have under a shed at my uncles in the highlands with a Much posher end kitchen eldis tornado, i dropped on it cheap local with accident damage, but made it sound enough to tow up there and took it up last week, its under a shed so not a factor, a carver and shower. We just got a new microwave the old one is up there, and i even got 4 big gas cylinders up there ready. if i sound exited i am, all i can hope for is better fowling weather this season. I do not have a real reason for going all ten bore this year, i just decided i was going to do this and here we are. It will be here soon enough now, get august here and that last month flies by, must admit nice to not be rushing about this time, in all some good come of this terrible virus, i just hope we do not end up locked down in phase 2 thats all. .
  9. And inform others who would do us harm. Now i wonder why that's not a good idea Gordon. Even you must have a hunch to what its about join up the dots man and get a grip.
  10. Looks positive thanks for posting.
  11. members pulling good health teeth out is not helping with the hold any. I can not see how they could have realisticaly done any different over the years, certainly not to have significantly change anything as you would notice.
  12. I admit it is a beloved BASC, it is right now fighting to save our sport.
  13. Get busy Replace them, its all doable. Doubt a single one of you BASC nay sayers will do squat to change anything here whatsoever. I know this much if BASC had ****** me off as much as it apparently has done you chaps i would be doing something about it in double quick time. They could well be using it right at this moment in time, fighting to solve problems in shooting. WE the SHOTING community have got lots going on at the moment way more than banning lead or this change. PS Have we really reached the posting MEME s STAGE of pigeon watch devolution./ Honestly i ask you. TUT TUT!.
  14. you will no doubt get some Flowery answers, but in reality they had zero idea if it existed or not. harsh admitted but the truth can be sharp at times. But like pointing out a bruise to a child they start crying, but it never hurt until it was pointed out.
  15. Nothing i am all good with BASC, it is logical to me and just sensible money management for the greater good. As we speak BASC are spending our money to uphold our sport. i see nothing not to like.
  16. NO i do not work for BASC or any other shooting organisation. And i am not delusional BASC are saving shooting. That will need a miracle not BASC. BASC offer a myriad of support and assistance to clubs and individuals. And for the fee i feel i get more than my moneys worth every year. BASC are not in government they can only Lobby on our behalf, but they have experience they can assist clubs and members with if the members so wish. Any backlash that occurs will be born out of the school playground PILE ON mentality that exists in much of todays online media. And BASC are powerless to do anything about this. But BASC will be damned if they do and damned if they dont, its how it is with any government or organisation the world over. You can not please everybody, you will make enemies its unavoidable. BASC can be fine tuned to exactly what shooters want it to be, GET involved CHANGE IT if your not happy. Crying and snivelling on here is helping no one. Some on here clearly have very strong opinions on what BASC should and should not be doing, Post after post of Pointless gripe and bellyaching about BASc" OH I AN WALKING **** BASC" Fine walk then, but you could grow a spine and Get active get on council or put a like minded soul in the hot seat for you. The Answer is there has been forever, but will we see a CHAMPION FOR LAW ORDER AND JUSTICE IN BASC Spawned out of the Pigeon watch massive????. OH! i do hope so, a real stalwart for shooting, Who gets in there changes BASC and hopefully stops the moaning on here about basc. BUT NO! we wont see that, nothing like it just verbal tennis on threads just like this one all the time. WELL GO ON! prove me wrong. get there do it. The whole world is watching to see your next move.
  17. You wanted a good reason Read the statement. You got an explanation there. The fact it is not to your liking tough. It makes complete sense to use funds wisely and 1 in 1000 members using the service, and 1 in 2000 being taken up is not good numbers. Basc are doing the right thing.
  18. How does this relate to " the equivalent of giving everyone in the BASC a pay increase at our expense for absolutely no good reason". How could they get a pay increase via this route.? . there is a full statement here posted on this thread on 2nd July have any of you read it. ? " Conor O'Gorman Posted July 2 The full text of the BASC briefing on this topic is as follows: BASC acts in the best interests of its members and shooting. With regards to the legal expense’s insurance only around 150 (1 in 1000) members a year make a claim, and of those only around a half (1 in 2000 members) have their cases taken up. Yet the legal expenses policy costs almost £1 million. The cost of this insurance continues to rise rapidly each year, whilst at the same time stricter conditions and exclusions are being added to the policy. The legal expenses insurance policy is no longer providing a product which is in the best interests of members. As a result, BASC Council has decided to remove it from the membership package from July 31, 2020. We have not taken this decision lightly. The decision does not affect the membership liability or personal accident insurances which includes: up to £10 million Public Liability Cover up to £10 million Employer Liability Cover up to £10 million Product Liability Cover up to £50,000 cover for personal accidents resulting in the loss of sight, hearing, or limbs Our firearms teams will still be on hand to provide advice and guidance to all members on firearms and licencing matters. Our public liability and personal accident insurances are unaffected and remain in place. BASC’s resources are managed by Council so that we can continue to fight for shooting and benefit members. Legal expenses insurance Q&A Q: When will he cover end? A: This insurance cover will cease on 31st July 2020. Q: Why is BASC making this change? A: The cost of paying for this type of insurance is increasing at an astronomic level, it’s not fair that all members should be paying for a cover that most members will never use, that is not in the best interests of our members and is potentially against the Financial Conduct Authority rules. Q: Will this decrease the cost of membership? A: No, the cost of providing insurances as part of the membership package is approximately £13.50. The cost varies each month depending on the size of the membership and of course at renewal when the annual premium is calculated. The rest of the membership subscriptions goes to the running of the Association and all the additional activities we undertake like judicial reviews for example. Partial refunds will also not be given for the reason stated above. Q: In the years that the policy has been in place, has it made much difference? A: Whereas there have been some individual successes the police have maintained gross inconsistency, indeed in some cases it seems to have been worse. Q: Will I still get help from the BASC Firearms team with issues I may have with the possession and use of firearms? A: Yes, absolutely, the firearms team within BASC are a unique member benefit and will now be able to focus even more on direct assistance of members. Q: What are the BASC firearms team going to do to help? A: The BASC firearms team will continue to operate at a strategic level lobbying the Policing minister, Home Office, and liaising with National Police Chiefs Council Firearms and Explosives Licensing Working Group to represent shooters interests and strive for a fair and consistent licensing system. Q: The cost of insurance is advertised as £13.50 yet we are saying that it is too expensive why is that? A: £13.50 is an approximate cost of the insurance element and it varies from month to month and year to year depending on the number of members and the cost of renewing the policies. The significant increase in the cost of the LEI would increase the approximate cost greatly and impact our financial resources to enable us to provide all our current services. The BASC firearms experts are on hand to give direct help, support and advice to individual members on specific firearms licencing and possession issues."
  19. An idea it might help you here. Go away find a quiet place or go somewhere tranquil with your dog/ dogs or some such. sit down quietly and be logical about the state shooting is in in the UK today. Be logical about BASC , and what its influence is , and Be logical about BASC and what possible gain it could ever make from destroying the very sport its there to support and conserve etc. There is no ryme nor reason to what your implying here. NONE!. Be logical.
  20. The sad fact is we here will never see any such research undertaken here, They tried to be as fair and accurate as they could be and it was well thought out from the outset. the american way of trying to keep shooting sustainable, and with full support of the Government departments is just not on our List of possibilities. we have our government Bodies trying to stop shooting , not utilise its positive aspects "which are many" for good. BASC try to Lobby on our behalf but its like wading through treacle for any organisation. the monster that is natural England, and the Police forces of this country and Their fudging and interpretation of Guidance and legislation until the two are indeed impacting our sport. is evidence enough we are in trouble. An old mate a mad keen fowler in his time, rang me few weeks ago said he was up for renewal in September. And how he had quote. "ive had enough" . It was the medical certification etc. He felt it a lot of faffing and experience for a trip to scotland once a year and a few pigeons, his age 78 and his arthritis etc never entered his head. He just did not want the hassle. i tried to talk him out of it and offered to help him anyway i could, but no he was determined and polite about it but he felt let down by the law. In his words . I feel like a dirty criminal, and i have never stole or hurt a living soul in my life, and this is the way they thank you". I think he is not doing the right thing, or even looking at things from a positive perspective. but what i will say here is i can understand why he feels the way he does, and i dare say there are many old lads just like him writing **** on this sport for very similar reasons. .
