  1. You did well to watch it that long, i just could not get into it at all.
  2. Powershot hw13 is denser so will generate lower pressures than steel will, so dependent what your 24g steel load was a 7000psi is perfectly feasible in such a load. And in a case such as this i agree reducing powder charge by 10% is not necessary, but at the start of paragraph 2 indeed throughout my post i outline ALLIANT STEEL and with typical available data A steel is generating more pressure than it did historicaly, and the 10% reduction in this typical data as example of such data lets say RSI manual. Where data has to change as not just the powder characteristics but winchester stopped production of primers used extensively in this data. And replacing these primers with the winchester replacements did alter the load characteristics. In such cases with ALLIANT STEEL the 10% reduction in such circumstances is in my opinion prudent.
  3. Old pal of my dads had one years ago, and he used to get a good rate of fire with it. Remember he used to hold a cartridge between his fingers when shooting, for the quick follow up shot and doing this put a scuff mark on the for end wood. His was 32 inch full choke he used it on the wash and can remember as a little boy walking off the light house in the lat 1960s with my dad first time i ever saw that greener. Sad end to that old gun, was when the old boy died early 1980s his son in law got it. I saw the gun about a month latter the son in law had had a hacksaw to it chopped it down to 25 inches, claimed it was too tight on the choke which struck me as a shame as the old boy had used it just fine for fifty years or more and i thought had a bit of history with that family i would have wanted to try and preserve. .
  4. There is no set point at which spikes or sudden rises in pressure if you like can occur, hence the importance of using published or tested data you know is suitable. Some loads using Alliant steel for example here by their very nature will be less prone to these rises, light loads generally are more forgiving . Yet even with these light loads if you go for the high speed loads which use relatively large powder charges, slight changes in component design or substitution of no longer available components in a load need careful consideration. And if you take changes in the powders themselves as in A steel, you have the potential for complications. With the more moderate loads like say a 10bore 1 3/8 oz at around 1500fps load you wont see any sudden jumps in pressure . But once you start looking for velocity or greater shot weight. the potential for these jumps is more prevalent. Looking at a reloading manual picking a load , be aware that deviation from the data in anyway can bump pressures up. The old rule of starting 10 %under on the powder charge is good advice, looking carefully for any signs of pressure before deciding or not as the case may be to use the full charge. These precautions will help keep you safe as will researching yourself by testing loads, keeping a watchful eye on components and any interchangeability or renaming .An example of this multimetal wads being dropped from production but TPS wads being a direct interchange as the had only detail differences in composition rather than physical differences. Being vigilant is the best way of overcoming avoiding any complications which is far more important than getting the very last fps out of any published load, which may just have been developed years ago when load components could have been slightly different in characteristics only accurate testing will reveal how close to the data the load performs with components available today.
  5. correct powders are very stable and as you say work best in certain ranges of use, it is sometimes at the limits of the spectrum spikes are encountered in some loads.
  6. OH! Thats a lack of education on my part, yo as pobly fa btt dcatd than m.
  7. What reducing powder charges proportionately does not reduce pressures to stay within safe limits. .?
  8. Weight of powder lighter loads like 1oz drop a couple of grains and with 42 gram loads you can need to drop 4 grains or more, and in some cases need to change primers to keep pressures sane.
  9. Remington use type 6 cases in nitros and the black version in sportsman ammo. Sts hulls are not typical in steel nitro turkey loads did use them but not any advantage to steel loading. Remington nitros do use a green Remington wad which is well made but no more than RSI wads or even B&P wads used by Kent Gamebore Jaguar. Now federal use the maroon fed cases in the premier steel, but blue box federal is what the Americans call multi hulls, these are Chedite cases . Federal wads are versions of pattern drivers in pink blue and cream versions any TPS or . multimetal is as strong a wad as these. Sorry i do not see anything the Americans are doing which gives any added gun protection, in fact the hypersonic ammo they make is higher pressure than anything available here from a firm. our cartridge makers are playing the safe side on steel but reloaders are getting higher pressure faster steel and not getting damage if loaded on or close to pressure limits.
  10. No permission required if land is not on an SSSI.
  11. Good engines the VM used in many vehicles powerful and quite economical for what they are. Fronteras got a bad pres the watchdog tv show used them as a staple diet for a long time, and when yo throw enough around some will stck, truth is they were never as bad as claimed and in fact the old 1990s isuzu 2.8 diesel engined lwb fronteras were very reliable.
  12. i do not understand why American cartridges make any difference . What is the relevance here please?.
  13. Tested and as listed many are over pressure, steel and HW 13. Dropping a few grains helps regain safety with regards pressure but speed drops off when you do this, how much of a problem it is depends on how much you are prepared to accept in velocity reduction.
  14. They still do the tiger 32s they always seem to deliver when i use them, no idea where you would buy any though.
  15. Alliant steel is not immune from pressure spikes either, i drop all loads a few grains with the steel powder that is on sale now and velocity is down as a result.
  16. This is one reason i reload much of my ammo, you get exactly what you want not what you can get. Today shooting brings with it enough compromises eliminating one of them i believe is a small step in the right direction.
  17. yes mate it did cheers, we got 6 pinks between two of us and a dozen widgeon in three flights. Was birds about but not as many as earlier, they are getting split up a little now up where we went anyway. thing is we were alone every flight saw just one lad in a Ranger Pick up on the way out last day, he was a local shooter but just walking his dogs.
  18. It will keep the screen clear if you position the heater in the front, condensation if you ventilate the van is not a problem, we are not talking heat as in 70 degrees in my old Kangoo but was freezing the other night when we were up in the highlands was cosy in the van and none of that breathing cold air and waking up in the middle of the night needing to fire up the van get the heater going. These little heaters do make a significant difference, just one tee light heater in the back of the van means you are coming back to a defrosted warmish van after cold morning flights, and if back to the van after flight for a tea no need to burn diesel getting the heater going if you are sat in the van for a wile in the day.
  19. I take it the pump CG is using in his new vid is an SXP Winchester, i have never ev en seen an SXP but was told they are a copy of the old 1200 1300 winchester pump, with invector plus barrel and choke system. The old Winchester 1200s were reliable and functioned smooth and fast, but like any pump they need operating correctly to get them to function properly. I put it down to operator error rather than they being cheap Turkish built, have heard many on here say they use SXPs and majority seem to be working fine.
  20. A pal had one about 20 years ago his was the Rapid model, had no barrel rib and was a alloy action frame, well made and handled ok from what i can remember, his was a well warn example and i do remember he had it a few years and so it must have been ok..
  21. Correct and in the cases of SOME! rivers small esturies sometimes both banks for the price of one.
  22. That 8lb bass would have been a good one, i took a 6.5lb one about ten yearsgo now was the best i done so far on bass. I taken to spinning for bass these days but involves traveling up north so do not get to do as much as i would perhaps want to. I never had a shimano Multi use Daiwa Tourney Xs Penn 425s or rock marks use slosh 20s which i like for the rocks up north.
