  1. I don't know which tracker but two cars were stolen local to me recently (house broken into for keys) Both has trackers but neither have been recovered ,I heard they were last tracked 20 miles up the road Can teackers be blocked / removed at the road side?
  2. Depends what's covered ,not sure they will cover wearing parts and you will need to get the car serviced at a garage to keep within the terms of the warranty
  3. Still plenty rabbits in my part of the borders (duns) not in the numbers they used to be An abundance of hares though
  4. A guy i used to work with had many stories if poaching salmon on the river tweed In his younger days It was all very well organised with look outs posted on the river bend above and below the action (both would always have dogs as an excuse to the bailiffs) There were rods hidden inside rotten trees so not to be seen with one Also had to help empty some old buildings on an estate a few years ago and found a few gaffs (apparently back in the day it was very common for the shepherds to take fish regularly to feed the family and his dogs)
  5. I agree you need to get out beating on a place that let's the beaters go roost shooting after the season I used to beat on a place in Northumberland that had well organised roost shoots You can't just rock up to a wood and hope for the best ,it takes planning and all the woods need to be manned or the birds just go to a wood and stay there
  6. Pm sent il take the day if its still available
  7. Just wondering where we stand as of boxing day the whole of mainland scotland will be in tier 4 ,so pretty much in lockdown So my question is can driven game shooting continue? I've found conflicting advice online but to my knowledge shooting stopped in England during the 3 week lockdown in November Thanks
  8. If this was local to me I would of replayed but as its hundereds of miles away il give it a miss !
  9. Aye I know the place it's just down the road from me ,il keep my eyes peeled for any spaces there
  10. Hi im looking for walk stand/rough shooting for this coming season Based in the Scottish borders (duns) but could travel to north Northumberland Two working cockers and dont mind helping with work ,feeding etc if local to me Thanks Chris
  11. I can go out lamping with a local keeper but thought it would be better to join a club too ? In time I'd like to get a .303 lee Enfield and not sure is get that calibre for stalking
  12. I'm near duns so the berwick/coldstream one would be local to me
  13. I currently have my SGC and shoot game and vermin ,im looking to get into target shooting with a view to eventualy getting my firearms certificate Iv tryed google but to no avail ,is there anywhere in the borders (a club) where i could join to gain experience and work towards getting my firearms ticket ? Thanks
  14. Increase cover / anything you can do to make woods warmer / more comfortable places to be will help along with game plots if thats possible
  15. They would be lead astray by the wild dogs in the beating line (INCLUDING MY SPANIELS !) I also believe a full days beating would nt help the dogs as far as trialing goes as a trial will involve a short spell (one drive) out working and then long spells sat in a dog box waiting
  16. The medium sized commercial shoot i beat on has two regular pickers up who travel two hours to get to the place and they do alot trialing and all of their dogs are excellent but both have said they would never take any of their dogs beatin Neither of them shoot they do the picking up as training for the field trials

Thats a good point as ive worked on farms and at ag engineers in the past where health and safety are dirty words and construction sites will be the opposite of that Just spoke to another agency there and he says to go for my tickets as there loads of work in the borders currently (alot in jedburgh so he says) but i get the impression he would say that as he wants guys on his books to keep the hourly rate down !

Thanks ive spoke to a couple and most of the work seems to be up edinburgh way (about an hour from me) Yes ive driven ag telehandlers but the machines are very similar apart from construction machines having stabiliser legs (lets hope the agencies and employers see it the same way !)

Iv had the chance to re train but sadly it always comes down to money I also looked at open university courses in electrical engineering but 20 hours learning a week for 4-6 years seemed out of my reach as i work 50-60 hours in my current job and have a baby at home

Aye pretty much sums it up its too late to re train as anything worth while as ive a mortgage to pay and cant take a pay cut to train and too old for an apprenticeship anyway

    career change

For the past ten years or so ive been parts manager / parts supervisor at an agricultural engineers ,prior to that i worked a shepherd / general farm worker ,ive also done fencing and some machine maintenance / repair work My currenty job is getting old fast ,i tried changing companies two years ago and its the same **** as with any retail job ,the main problem is the moneys pretty good Ive looked at getting back into a more hands on / outdoor kind of job again (farm / estate work) as i miss being outside but the moneys just not there One thing i have thought about was putting myself through my telehandler tickets as ive 15 + years experience operating them and there seems a fair bit of well payed work (£15-£16) an hour self employed on contruction sites but i dont know how secure it would be and living in the scottish borders it would come with the possibility of alot of running up to edinburgh for jobs Anyone any experience working in the construction industry ? Thanks
  24. Thanks for the advice il get her booked into my local gunsmith
