Shooting (as you may have guessed), hiking, travel (I was one of the last Westerners though Syria before it collapsed - my abiding memory was that they loved Assad, which turned out to be wrong), camping, fishing, my girlfriend (because she's sitting next to me as I type this and she's a better shot than me), bird watching.
  1. Ultrastu - That is very informative and well reasoned - thank you. I'll check it's a few notches above 11 ft/Ibs and leave it at that I think! Quite right - for such a small power advantage it's not worth the risk.
  2. Just a quick hello. I'm from Bucks/Herts but bought in Essex a year or so ago with my girlfriend (because house prices are a lot cheaper)! I used to do a lot of shooting with my Falcon FN19 when I was a kid, which I bought with paper round money after reading a recommendation from Richard North - aka the 'Pro Hunter' - in Air Gunner magazine. Unfortunately, my father threw it out when he moved house and hadn't been in touch for a while. Talk about making things worse...! Anyhow, I recently ordered a thumbhole laminate HM1000 from Rapid Air Weapons via Michael Tawn (a real gent) and so I'm getting back into shooting. No doubt I'll learn a lot from you all. Best regards.
  3. Thank you all for your comments. OK - the safest bet would be to ensure it's set a few notches above 11 ft/Ibs until I can recover from the rifle/scope cost and buy a chrono! Better to lose a few fractions of a ft/Ib than repent at leisure
  4. Hi DC177 - the distributor is a certified gunsmith. I wouldn't want to touch the regulator settings myself
  5. Hi all. I am picking up a new non-FAC PCP in the next few weeks. I don't have a chrono of my own so the power will be set by the dealer. I understand that the power can change slightly as the parts 'bed in' over the first few thousand shots. So my question is this: what is the maximum power you would have it set at to be safe in the knowledge that it won't go above 12 ft/Ibs before you next have a chance to use a chrono a few thousand pellets later? Needless to say, I want the pellets to fly as flat as possible but I don't want to visit one of Her Majesty's prisons, either! Thanks all
  6. Good evening all - and apologies for the delay in replying. It's been 'one of those weeks' at work. Like you all I'm sure, I can't wait for the bank holiday to get out and do some shooting I really appreciate the advice - and welcomes. Thank you. I've settled on the Hawke Sidewinder 6-25 by 56. It seems to offer good value (and the reviews are highly positive). I'll post a picture when the RAW arrives and I have it mounted
  7. Does anything geared for the airgun market come close in terms of clarity and wide focal range (5-25) though? From all the reviews I've read it seems that a Zeiss scope is a cut above the scopes I used when I was younger (Simmons etc). I would like something that can be used for hunting whilst also retaining some usability for competitions. I'll post an intro in the next day or two.
  8. Hi all I'm new on here, and this is my first post. I don't think this topic has been discussed before, but if it has - and anybody can point me in the right direction - please feel free! I am taking delivery of a new PCP (it's coming over from the good folks at RAW in the U.S. so I have a few months to play with). But, at any rate, I am having trouble choosing a scope. I really like the look of the Zeiss models but they all parallax down to 50 yards. I know I could, in theory, dial down the focal length for closer range shooting, but I'd rather not have to think about that. So, my question is this: does Zeiss re-parallax scopes to 10 yards? And, if not, does anybody know of a professional who could do that? If yes to either questions, how much are we talking? Thanks in advance.
