The bolt action ws. Is a well built gun and tend to have a good choke and pattern well (mine certainly did.) But they are slow and fiddly to load especially for a single shot gun .
As for choke .no multi choke doesn't make a huge difference .but an ou will be a better gun to hunt and clay with than the ws.

I am in the need for some decoys over the years mine have been well used, abused and lost. I now find a need for some decoys and are thinking about Silosocks as they are very light and not bulky.
What are peoples thoughts on them or other recommendations.
Thanks
My mate has some silo socks both crow and pigeon and has had great results with them .
We have done experiments where we have had silo socks /full boddied plastic and real birds in different sections of the kill area .and pigeons will come into any and all of the zones .
Basically if your in the right spot and the birds want it they will come into any half decent decoy .

They will shoot fine and won't harm your barrel one bit .they my be 0.1 grain heavier than unoxidized pellets but that won't make any difference to accuracy .just wash your hands after
-
Yes English springer spaniel
My dog full fills your entire brief as its exactly mine also

I won't touch scarpa ever again .bought a pair a few years ago .they were light and comfortable but let water straight in (supposed to be gortex think they were lying ) and the sole were totally gone within 3 months never seen wear like it . They were scarpa mavericks . Total rubbish .
-
Yes he is .

Take a look at the oex boots in go out doors .
I have a pair and really rate them for waterproof ness excellent value also
-
Clear view net over the top so you can see any incoming bird . And u will definitely shoot more crows with a roof .in fact if I'm going out for crows I virtually always have a roof on my hide .works on pigeons too of course .
-
That's not exactly what I meant .
Does a small tab protrude out the back of the handle (when closed ) allowing you to depress it and flip the blade open 1 handed .and is there any assistance (like spring ) to this action .?

For the squirrels maybe use a heavy penetrating lead .177 (so a jsb heavy or bismag) head shoot them .the pellet will go right through and if your not sure it has ,just cut the head off before giving to the birds . Too simple really .
Not sure exactly what the timber business is .but traditionally any steel shot into trees is very bad for a the tree, but more so any machines that will cut the tree later chain saws milling machines etc .
Lead is soft so doesn't cause a problem .these lead free tin zinc aloys are almost as hard as steel. So have the same issues 😕.
-
Are these flipper knives ?
-
Fair enough. The jsb lead free is the same shape,as the jsb heavy so its a longer pellet than usual same with the barracuda greens same shape as the lead barracuda. So will work fine in bsa mags . I couldn't say a fast .177 is going to ricochet less than a slower .22 as basically they will all bounce about dangerously . I have a lead sheet back stop similar to yours and the 5 grn flat heads bounced out of it and back up to 20 yds 😳 .unless you have something like a pile of grain back stop or soft soil /mud I wouldn't use them . I've said before they should be banned on safety grounds . Maybe present this to your perm owners .
You could always try copper coated pellets . Best of both worlds perhaps.
-
6.8 grns isn't too light really
I do have some 5 grn flat heads and they shoot pretty good out to 25 yds at around 900 fps
-
840 fps ish .not much faster than a falcon accuracy plus at 7.4 grns . Which is no where near the limit for stability .
I've get great accuracy from jsb 8.4s at over 1000 fps
-
Excellent write up mice .I've not tried any .22 lead free but agree they might be the way forward over .177 for energy retention.
I've got in lead free .177 .jsb exact . These shoot well from my bsa's as does the barracuda greens .energy is OK also around 10.5 fpe .
But like you said the risk of ricochet Is huge and Safety glasses is a must at all times .I wouldn't use them un less forced to .

There are a few good vids on the tube .about this and I think most modern guns and many old guns also suffer no damage at all .

Buy that hatsan .410 pump for £300
Then send off the full extended choke to saddlery and gunroom in Kent and get them to fit a silencer to it . Should cost you around £180 . Plus Rfd transfer . Screw it on your barrel and enjoy silenced blissful .410 shooting .
Life is too short

Most pellets can handle 1000 fps .even .177 jsb 8.4 s
The most important thing to look for when tuning a gun is on paper consistent accuracy .ignore the chrono
Get it roughly when you want it .say around 900 fps .and then try all the hammer spring settings till your long range accuracy is good and reliable .then rechrono just to find out what it is and stick with it .even if it's 950 or 850 fps .doesn't matter you have plenty of power either way just adjust the scope to suit - done .
-
Take all the lead out .then shoot the primer with an airgun at 30 yds .it will just go pop . Don't shoot it with the lead in as it could fly back at you .empty all the powder in a pile and burn it with a match .
If you shoot the cartridge in your gun (without lead. )but with powder and wad you will get pop and a load of unburnt powder all down your barrel and possibly a stuck wad .which is fine if its easy to rod out ?
-
As long as you don't push that blockage by force into the barrel accidentally.
Often the issue with a mag that won't let you push the bolt forward after the last shot is , you can't store the empty mag in your gun .not an issue if you have on gun storage but not ideal to find you have gone out hunting and your magazine is in a pocket of your other jacket .

No your right .410 tss will be much much cheaper than a tss 12b .
-
Just buy the .410 you fancy a 1000 carts and enjoy .if you have to stop. Then £300 on the gun and £ 350 on carts
Isn't the end of the world .jeepers a decent sh 12b will cost that .
Also I don't find that there is a huge difference in cartridge price between .410 and 12 these days .
I pay around £100 a slab for .410 and £90 for 12 b
Since they announced the 5 year transition period back in 2021 ? Was it ?
I've bought 3 .410s sold one still have the other 2 . I shoot them more than any other gun these days .
-
I like them .I had one on oder when they were first announced. But after waiting almost a year. I gave up and bought a sh mossberg .410 .
Now they are everywhere .I was waiting for the 24 or 26 inch barrel version not the 28 . Cos I wanted to add a mod on the end .
I still think they are great value .

A mate had a Jimmy with big very knobbly tires .it was literally unstoppable in everything .tractors would get bogged down and that thing just went over it all no problem .
