  1. Might be interested in this . Got any photos?
  2. If your patterns are poor .take a look in the muzzle and make sure your pellets rent clipping the inside of the mod . (They did on mine and my mates 20b s )we sent them back and s&gr.reamed them out. A mil or so .this helped the patterns ..
  3. You don't have to zero your gun at any range .by raising your head .you are now looking along the shot line
  4. It's because your head is too low on the low stock and you shoot under your bird . Raise your head..on a higher stock which effectively raises the muzzle and you shoot higher
  5. Ok fair enough. He did say empty .sorry . Ps .I'm not looking for any argument . I just like to feel safe .in the hide .in the field or on a clay ground . And for me (for what thats worth ) Is to have guns pointing is a safe direction at all times with the saftey on . Broken is good too .unloaded is better . In a slip is lovely. Cheers . Think this has been done .
  6. That's fair enough .but I dont KNOW .if the gun is empty. If I'm looking down the muzzle. Best practice it maybe .but this thread started about saftey and muzzle awareness .and over the shoulder is ,zero muzzle awareness and that leads to complacency.
  7. No not necessarily. What if it has 2 carts in it .and it's slung over a shoulder .and your walking behind and the muzzle is pointing your way .? You would feel perfectly safe ?
  8. Well im saying as i see it .. I dont do a lot of clay shooting to be fair .but when I have I seem to spend more time ducking out of the way of swinging barrels. Open and closed guns than actually shooting myself ..i don't like it . Who (what discipline?) They come from I dont know .but they are there to shoot clays on the day .so they are clay shooters surely ? I can't comment on drivendays and walked up .don't do it . If my negative comments upset you but you also see bad practice at a ground you can't disagree with my observations. I'm sure there are loads of very safe and professional clay shooters and I see a lot of excellent form too .
  9. Ok well not bang on .but say at the head Just not as much lead as you would give a pigeon .it's very easy to miss infront of a crow .but jds are a bit faster generally .
  10. The top one is a huge no no in my book the lower image a little bit better but not by much .
  11. Darrin of xtx .if he is still doing it Then rat works .then jb Then airfective Then Carl
  12. Just an example of how my mate and I shoot side by side in our hide . We shoot long hushpower pump guns (that can't be broken ) The guns are loaded and the safety always applied. The guns usually rest (between shots) .to our right against the hedge behind us .A bird approaches .we reach for the gun .take aim .click off the safety and fire .Or re engage it .and return the gun to rest behind .if the safety catch is not engaged .it's possible that the trigger can be pulled by a twig in the hedge as we reach for the gun .yes the gun is pointing upward above us (we are seated ,and the gun is long enough to be above us ) but I still wouldn't like a discharge at this point . Safety always on for us unless on aim .
  13. Ok .a question to the clay shooter with ou.guns Do you feel it safe and acceptable to sweep or accidentally point a gun at a person when the gun is broken ?? I dont think it is . You could argue that the gun is safe as the cart cant be fired . But what if you had a dead mans click and a cart failed to go off and you break the gun and then sweep a person and then with an open gun the primer ignites ? You effectivley fire forwards and backwards .at the same time . I see people carrying ou .broken over a shoulder at clay grounds all the time .sweeping people and following people down paths .for all I know there is 2 carts in the breech that could ? Go off.. A broken gun isn't 100 % imo . Poor muzzle awareness is rife at clay grounds .broken or not . I agree a broken gun is better than closed (obviously) but still !
  14. Make your hide as invisible as possible Just A net infront of a hedge .wont cut it usually .make sure you have as much cover above you as you can (but still able to shoot up wards at an angle .most the crows will come over high and see down into your hide otherwise. I'd go with 32 grm no 5 .And keep ranges to about 35 yds .aim bang on they fly slowly . Random pattern on the deeks pretty close together .2 yds maybe .As many as u can . And I'd chuck them deep in a hedge or ask the farmer. But not left in plain sight for someone to find . (Including the farmer ) If your unsure .take a photo of em and show him that. But take them away and bin them .
  15. As long as he wasnt causing distress or hindering any road users .i think he would be ok . I doubt very many .walkers or cyclists would use a dual carriageway? So most of not all motorists would be un aware he was there .possibly . He might of been using an air rifle ?
  16. Does this mean you ONLY rely on muzzle awareness ? And you don't use the catch ? That's gonna bite you in the backside big time one day. Triggers most often get accidentally pulled when the gun isn't in the shoulder .so it could be pointing at your foot .or at the roof of a barn .or swinging past a parked tractor ,when it goes off .all reasonably good muzzle awareness but still a bad time for a gun to go off .also a discharging 12b out of the shoulder is gonna hurt you somewhere . Please don't be a hero .and flick the catch its really easy to do . I'm advocating the belt AND braces approach .not just belt .
  17. Yeah It's got to be lighter than carrying a concrete block into the field .
  18. Eh ? You have agreed with me .not disagreed.
  19. Well im pretty sure every one agrees on muzzle awareness first and foremost .and also that nobody here thinks a saftey catch is a substitute for muzzle awareness . But to rely on muzzle awareness alone and disregard a saftey catch is irresponsible thinking to my mind .and I for one wouldnt shoot along side a person who wont use the catch . Not all guns can be broken in the middle . Is it some sort of " I'm such a hero I dont need to flick a catch " mentality that stops people from using a saftey catch??? Boggles me .
  20. It was a rifle and shooting from a car is common practice . You bring the gun inside to reload the mag .and an accidental trigger pull happened.
  21. A safety catch is there to stop accidental pulling of the trigger. . This can happen (and does sometimes . ) when the gun isn't mounted but being moved around ..a friend shot the inside of his car door as the trigger of the gun caught on a zip of his jacket. .if the safety had been on the discharge wouldnt have happened. Accident ? Yes, but good job I wasn't sitting in the passenger seat . Use the saftey as much as you can at all times .you may never be aware of how many times its saved your bacon already . Good muzzle awareness ofcourse .of course of course. But saftey catch too please . Ps personally I dont like auto saftey .I prefer to be in complete control . I'm the auto safety catch. It automatically goes on when I'm not lined up on a bird .
  22. How old is he and whats he shooting if you don't mind me asking .? Im thinking of getting my boy who is 9 into it soon
