  1. welcome from a fellow oldie in Devon😊
  2. Some manufacturers and importers won't let retailers publish prices online, part of their supply agreement, but I Don't know why. They have their reasons. It's difficult to get particulate emission data for stoves even only 3 years old as the thing to publish then was efficiency ratings, mainly because that's what the public wanted. You could ask the manufacturer direct. People were always asking me the efficiency of one stove or another and I would reply by asking the moisture content of their firewood as the tests were done using x amount of hardwood at x amount moisture content, (and you can't burn water!!) so in the real world efficiency ratings are like car makers mpg claims! The stoves for sale now, new generation stuff, is the first step. In 2 or 3 years the emission regs will be tightened again and those stoves will be ultra cleanburning-with dry wood. They just won't work with unseasoned wood.
  3. I work in the stove industry and have done for 25 years, educating people that burning wet or unseasoned wood is a bad idea is an uphill struggle. we now burn kiln dried logs in the shop (10% moisture or less) and have proven that we burn less wood and get more heat than burning seasoned logs (15-20% moisture). the logs are kiln dried 5 miles away in kilns powered by solar panels-lots of solar panels. as usual in the press not all the facts are present. you will still be able to buy unseasoned wood in quantities of 3 cubic metres or more. no one will police what you burn anyway, so its kind of irrelevent. So a dry log will release more co2 into the amosphere and as it burns faster you will actually burn more of it during the day than you would a wet log .-I dont agree with this ultrastu. a dry log will not release more co2 than a log of higher moisture content, and as I previously said we use less kiln dried logs than we did seasoned logs. These measures being brought in are part of the 2022 SIA measures and have been in the pipeline for a while. the new stoves now release very few particulates, (soot basically) as particulate emission is the new demon. One british maufacturer of stoves has had to make their stoves less efficient to get them to pass the emissions test. you have to have a certain amount of air going into the stove to ensure complete combustion otherwise you get smoke and soot, but more air passing through the stove lessens efficiency. The new generation of stove won't work properly on iffy wood, but they are fantastic on properly dried wood. I could go on and on, but won't. People will always do their own thing and that's a good thing.
  4. have a look at these videos- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRflBLpG3eo and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DqlmF7tPlM I wish I could shoot like that with a pcp, never mind a recoiling gun! I have used an fac hw80 years ago- didn't tear itself apart and was as accurate as a 12ft lb gun.
  5. There is a vid on YouTube just called predator pellets by critter glitter airguns, he shot 2 squirrels and retrieved the pellets. Very good expansion.
  6. Polymag has red plastic/polymer insert, metal mag insert looks like brass.
  7. Hi figgy I wasn't too sure about the soap either, I couldn't think of an alternative, not sure if I want to retrieve a pellet out of roadkill!
  8. Made by jsb for predator International who are American distribution company. Labelled as predator polymag or metal mag. I get mine from voymir. Com
  9. not sure what you're getting at? my post was just to show my personal experience with these pellets, and that they do what they say they will do.
  10. Lots of talk about the hades pellet and in particular people wanting them in .177 mainly to see if they offer any expansion. I've just tested polymag and metal mag in my .177 AAs410 and was impressed. shooting a 25mm spinner at 50 yards every shot was a hit with both pellets, and point of aim was no different to 8.4g jsb pellets. shot a bar of soap at 25 yards and dug out the pellet and measured it- what was 4.5mm had expanded to 5.5mm- 20% expansion. does anyone else like them/use them?
  11. for me a cheap rangefinder is excellent, i paid £45 for mine off amazon. I'm not very good at estimating ranges anymore (age?) and find it essential now in woodland (most of my shooting)
  12. love my hatsan but my benelli is so reliable and easy to clean compared to a gas operated gun. £400 would get you a used benelli or franchi affinity which is inertia I think. https://www.guntrader.uk/guns/shotguns/benelli/semi-auto/12-gauge/premium-plus-191018133804012
  13. A while ago a put a jsb 8.44 beside an air arms both standing on end. the air arms was slightly taller.
  14. I looked into going self employed very recently, and it appears on the government website that you don't have to register as self employed until the october of the second year of being self employed, in your case you be retired then.......

    p**sed myself laughing! proper redneck!
  16. I work in retail and understand the implications of putting down a deposit, but the point is the verbal agreement would have to be honoured on their part before I paid the rest of the money. The car was a good price (checking against nationwide prices) so I was always going to buy that one.
  17. I wouldn't part with the money until the car was ready and sorted. I bought a used car from the local village garage, I wanted a new mot, service ,underseal and some minor scratches filled and painted. they agreed to all of this in the asking price. I said I would pay a deposit and they declined saying I could pay in full when its ready, two weeks later the car was ready, everything I asked for was done and I paid. Old school service. they even fixed an air con fault 4 months after purchase for free, even though it came with 3 months warranty.
  18. Light cylinder? why not ask Teague?

    The Truth

Three sides to every story- Yours, Mine and the Truth. this was an album by Extreme. I always thought this title interesting. To me it means that when you think you know the facts, or you know you are right, its not necessarily so.
  20. My local church tower is 120 feet high-40 yards. seagulls and pigeons look pretty damned small sat up there. I think some people get feet and yards mixed up....😄

    HEADS UP SCAM

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shp3Kd_HGEU quite entertaining
  22. I had an ATA, bought it new, it was faultless and i only sold it because it wasn't getting much use (traded it back against an air rifle actually) I sometimes wish i had kept it, mine was the lightweight alloy action version with 26" barrels. a lovely gun for mooching around with. Mine came with a posh suede and velvet case-do they still supply them?
  23. I'm not sure who draws the lines and where they are drawn anymore, the left is now pretty much centre and if you are just right of centre you're in danger of being labelled a racist/nazi/etc.

    Sat Navs

if you use google maps on your phone or tablet you can download large ares of map and not rely on phone signal. It also updates that download automatically. My misses does just that (community nurse). personally I use an app called co pilot. uk/ireland map is downloaded to device and updated for free. it cost me £20 a few years ago and costs nothing for upgrades. i've moved it to a newer phone for free as well. They do apple and android versions.
