  1. don't think that is going to make it onto the BBC
  2. be interested in how your lamb experiment goes, being a fattier meat should end up very tasty, season with mint sauce maybe
  3. trouble is politicians and civil servants are on day rate - put them on piece work and we might see some action
  4. The first batch I did was too salty but still just about edible as I sprinkled salt, that is why I started using salt and pepper grinders as I found it then spread a thinner amount and was easier to judge. Obviously as I butcher my own venison I am able to make sure that the meat is as good as can be with no contaminants and stringent hygiene. The vinegar will take care of pretty much all air borne pathogens that might get on the meat as it is sliced so I think that the salt can be to taste. If you are going to keep for a while then maybe a little more salt is needed as a preservative but every batch I make seems to disappear long before preservation becomes an issue.
  5. Venison 'biltong' using store cupboard ingredients that lets the flavour of the venison be the star - not classic biltong by any means just the recipe I started with and the flavour feedback is such I see no reason to change cut 3 - 4 lbs of venison into 1/4 inch thick slices in a plastic container grind salt (I like to use Maldon sea salt as most local to me) and pepper as though you were seasoning some meat fairly heavily. Now do it again so you have double seasoning. Add a layer of meat. sprinkle on some malt vinegar making sure all meat gets some. Repeat the above until you have used up all the venison finishing with vinegar and more seasoning on top. Leave in fridge for 4 - 6 hours then give everything a turn top to bottom then back in the fridge overnight. Drain off the vinegar and dry the meat. place in a 5 tier electric dehydrator (hence 3 - 4 lbs so it will fit plus you do not annoy the mrs by using her oven for 2 days and you can put the dehydrator wherever convenient) lowest setting, dry for 1 - 2 days depending on how chewy/dry you like it. Turn meat over and change around trays morning and evening for even drying. Enjoy
  6. Paul, sorry should have said, keep aiming at the top left cross
  7. The media has changed - so have their standards of reporting - we rarely see the full facts now
  8. two things would be helpful now 1. making sure the gun is unloaded take the mod off and take a picture for us of the barrel looking down into it so we can see the crown and any possible damage 2. Assuming your scope says on it 1/4 or 1/8 moa Get a plain piece of a4 draw on it 4 crosses as the corners of a 6inch square - shoot 3 shots at the top left corner and then turn your scope turret 20 clicks to the right, 3 more shots, now 20 clicks down, 3 more shots, 20 clicks left, 3 more shots, 20 clicks up 3 more shots This is called the square test - put the results on her with a pic - if your scope is good then you should have shot 4 corners of a square (within the 6 inch boundaries) and returned to your original corner - if it is not good the we should be able to see this
  9. If it were me I would be trying different pellets - it can be a pita finding the right one but when you do you will know immediately. On other forums specifically airgun related there is a very helpful chap that sells pellet try packs with 10 different makes in - saves investing £135 ish in 9 out of 10 tins that are not so good Running my AA510 at 25ft lbs - I had to try quite a few different pellets before finding the right one for my barrel. Any advice that this or that pellet will work is a punt in the dark, all barrels are different. Use bags or a clamp to support the rifle whilst testing to take out possible user error as Walker570 quite rightly says, we have all been there
  10. Folk working in retail usually do 5 1/2 day weeks, those working for delivery companies and the Royal Mail the same. If you work for the NHS then who knows when you might get a day off at the moment. I am sure that there are many others who can only realistically get out on a Sunday. My local farmers do not turn their bangers off on a Sunday, nor do they stop harvest or cultivation if the weather is right. I would quite enjoy seeing Mr Glenser try and tell one or two farmers of my acquaintance that they should be quiet on a Sunday.

    Pubs now open

We have a maccie D car park like that just up the road next to a petrol station, they have bait boxes out but I reckon I could do more good for them in an afternoon with an air rifle and a couple of old big macs, sadly that is never going to be in this day and age

  14. If moving decoys on wires is not legal I think we might have heard of this, just saying.
  15. I would not deliberately miss any if I were you, kids have this annoying habit of being a better shot 10 minutes after they have started. As for 9g carts - I use a lot around the farm ratting - they are surprisingly powerful
  16. Benelli make some really decent semi autos and have done for some time
  17. Ring ahead to whatever clay ground you are going to use and ask them if they can set up a slow, into the wind clay that can be busted at about 15 - 20 yards as it 'dies' for her as a beginner. I am lucky that I go to a privately run clay shoot and we always start the kids off with something that they can hit - confidence is everything.

    scooters

I seem to remember a similar speed personal vehicle was launched in the UK some years ago - Richard Stilgo wrote an excellent ditty about the Sinclair C5 which included a line involving Spanish trucks - now whatever happened to those?
  19. The massive reduction in takeaway packaging being thrown out of car windows in the countryside. Only one call out to a deer HD in 3 months and that was at the civilised time of 6am and in the sunshine They should make the only one person can go shopping rule permanent House maintenance up to date has freed up time for deer stalking On a similar vein to TC's quiet roads - the quietness in general

    Crop ID please

Before the pigeons get on them (unless downed by wind/rain) the deer will be having their munch, they love oats.
  21. For those that consider the table expensive let me break the price down into reality for you. I have no connection with A1 apart from having met them at shows now and again but I do understand mail order via ebay. Start with £19 as near as £3.80 goes to the VAT man Leaves £15.20 Ebay and paypal fees are £2.46 Leaves £12.74 Postage Costs £2.95 if you have a franking machine Leaves £9.79 So A1 have to pay for the product (likely to be a significant investment as you usually have to order a fair number to get a price) They have to pay for the labour to pack it, the packaging, the printer to print the label, someone to answer 'where is my order? What size is it? How long will it take to arrive? queries - even though that information is available in the listing. Cover the cost of the dishonest who claim that it never arrived or spend around £1 having it tracked. Cover the cost of damaged packages. I reckon if they can clear a fiver in profit it will be a miracle which means they need to sell 60000 units to afford their next roller - after all that is what all rip off retailers drive isn't it?
  22. I do not really see the point of picking one, the top 3 will be low risk because they will be in a very high state of awareness. I have no idea of the risks of a farrier, he or she usually works outside and can easily keep their distance from folk. It does not really matter as long as proper precautions are taken. I assess the biggest risk in my home as being the shopping. I am absolutely certain that not all shelf fillers will take proper precautions all the time. Nor do the folk shopping. In addition to this plastic is one of the surfaces the virus survives longest on. The absolute biggest risk I currently have is my journey to and from work and the absolute imbecils driving at ludicrous speeds and putting essential workers lives at risk.
  23. I would sell or to/from any of them. Gloves and mask worn by both parties, pop up table outside to do the exchange of paperwork on, items exchanged quaranteened for at least a week, table bleached. At least 2 metres seperation at all times. I believe that that will far exceed the precautions most folk are taking with their shopping from what I have seen and heard. I am with Scully just use common sense which in this case means taking proper precautions.
  24. if I could get 1 of some stuff it would be a *********** miracle let alone 2 Especially the elderly that are not online so cannot order for themselves
