  1. £50 a tube sounds like a bargain to me. Going to have the full choke on my sbs taken out during the summer as it has always whacked the second pigeon too hard and I now want to be able to future proof carrying on using it on game shoots with steel - all this changing over to bismuth when shooting ducks in land and not even over water is a pita.
  2. "Earlier on today apparently a woman rang the BBC and said she had heard that there was a hurricane on the way. Well if you are watching, don't worry, there isn't." I guess that it will not be the last time someone gets something wrong
  3. Many is the time I would have preferred fish and chips when eating out - the mrs agrees so we rarely go out to eat now apart from a trusted cafe for breakfast, we would rather spend the money on a good meal at home.

    Predictions?

So the people have spoken - emphatically - nothing more to be said really as the vote has said it all, lets get on with life now, put differences behind us and make this country stronger
  5. This year, as the pressure on shooting has increased I have joined BASC, NGO, GWCT and BDS. None of them are perfect but I do not have time to contact all MPs myself and letters that I have written to my local MP have been responded to with standard replies. I therefore feel that I need representation as part of a group as I feel that this will have more impact. I also do not have time to look at all the proposed legislation or where public consultation is available for me to contribute. It is mainly BASC that informs me about what is going on and I rely on all the organisations to represent me in Westminster. The organisations (barring the BDS) , all contacted me about the latest consultation on General licences in plenty of time for me to contribute, which I did. If folk who are not members stopped whinging about these organisations for one minute and engaged their brains they would realise that, as Konor says, if everyone joined we would have a far stronger voice. If you are a member of course you are allowed to whinge and have your say. I do so regularly into the ear of my local BASC rep but it is mostly about the lack of communication regarding what they are doing rather than the lack of effort. A typical case in point is that today I would expect to be able to go to the BASC website and see a synopsis of where each party stands on hunting and shooting in its manifesto. BASC must have done this research but unfortunately have not published it. Joining a shooting organisation should not just be about the insurance, if that is your only motivation then you should be ashamed to call yourself part of the shooting community.
  6. Whilst a boning knife is good you could also consider a good butchers saw, a vac packer, mincer, sausage stuffer, meat slicer, red high density chopping board or at the cheaper end blue nitrile gloves, vac pack bags, labels and pen, plastic see through boxes to keep all the butchery stuff in a clean state in a shed or garage - the list goes on. Also consider a set such as this https://www.tamarackoutdoors.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=9530312 - they are not the best nor the worst knives in the world and do need a touch on the steel regularly - the big advantage is that they come with a belt and holders so when you are skinning and butchering your knives are to hand rather than being put down somewhere just out of reach or being accidently knocked on the floor thus requiring cleaning.
  7. I thought this was social media.
  8. The irony is the green party sent me something that has cost resources and will cost more resource to dispose of as it is in colour and varnished. I understand it is the law that political parties are allowed to send you at least one piece of **** without any comeback, a serious abuse of my electronic data in my view and why should political parties be allowed to ignore a persons right to privacy?
  9. An impossible question to answer for anyone with a modicum of decency and honour
  10. salt, pepper and fried in butter and oil, allow to rest, slice across the grain at an angle - add some port and blackberry jam or redcurrant jelly to the pan juices to make a sauce/gravy. Serve with seasonal veg and potatoes of choice.
  11. No idea why this suddenly sprung to mind - I think it is because I am being slowly driven mad by our 'modern' society - or it could be eating lead shot game all my life is turning me ga ga we are all hypocrites in our own way but some insist on imposing their hypocrisies on others If the changes in our climate are induced by human kind then the root cause is as obvious as the solution - the population is growing exponentially - have less babies (as a cull is no longer acceptable)!
  12. Not only did you shoot dinner you used a proper gun to do it - respect
  13. I do not think so - a half decent merc costs at least 42p per mile to run as a taxi - 50 miles = £21 that leaves £9 for an hours work - that is not a living wage for a self-employed person
  14. Whatever mix/recipe you make, fry a little up before you make your burgers or sausages just to check seasoning and texture
  15. A lot of shoots now have at least one person registered as having done the Lantra small and large game course via the NGO which gives you a hunter number allowing you to sell into the human food chain following inspection. It is no different to what we have always done, hanging game up to cool as soon as it is shot in braces, discarding game you would not eat yourself and ensuring it is cooled to 4 c or below at the end of the day and not allowed to warm up. If it is deer the only difference is cool to 7 c - but if you have a larder and set it to 4 then you are covered either way and the venison does not mind being cooler. It is such a load of ******** - I reckon pretty much everyone on here is perfectly capable through experience of handling and sorting game of all sorts. Possibly some have not done the deer but it does not take long to learn a few specifics and is not much different to rabbits.
  16. That does not quite fit with all the sea level and climate change predictions - it would seem that scientists may be at logger heads - anyway I am sure as long as they keep getting their grants they will continue to produce their 'peer reviewed' papers that are so oft quoted Doubling the population to 14 billion is around 100 years from now at current rates - that means your great grand kids will probably be alive - a sobering thought The human race will not be able to get to this figure and suddenly stop breeding which is why the change needs to start happening now. Economically it needs to be a slow reduction in increase and then a slow reduction in overall population. Anyway it does not matter a jot what I say as I have heard this spouting of the world being able to support all these people a lot from the younger generations and it is they who will make the future not me.
  17. well thats great, politicians can be seen to have 'done something' - I think most of us could write the Yes minister script
  18. The only way forward is to reduce human population, all other actions, including brexit or no brexit, will become irrelevant if we keep adding another billion every few years.
  19. I don't have a picture to hand unfortunately but my old 1971 flavour Miroku sbs has almost no bluing left where I have held it so many times. A quick wipe over with an oily rag with a bit of Legia stops any rusting in even the wettest of conditions - I understand the science but cannot see the need, especially not at that price, we have been looking after our guns very well for decades without this product. I suspect that it will either fall in price if they want high volume sales or remain some sort of snobby elite product
  20. Oh I thought that only candle wax did that?

    Why??

Home use high pressure, as in 300 bar, compressors suitable for refilling pcp air rifles and small dive cylinders have been coming down in price for some time now - items such as 223673103716 on fleabay are being tested out by air rifle enthusiasts and are getting reasonable reviews. You need to take your time with them and ensure that they do not overheat by doing short sessions but so far they have not been falling apart or breaking in the first 5 minutes and are a reasonable option if you have a long return journey to your nearest dive shop.

    BREXIT

I have been desperately trying to keep 6 ft under the sand as the ineptness of our politicians in coming to an adult agreement in over 3 years amounts to collective high treason in my view. My good lady read me out something last night which made me chuckle as many a word spoken in jest etc. I cannot remember exactly what she read out but it went something along the lines of .... It is 2123 and the british prime minister is visiting Brussels today to apply for the UK's annual extension to brexit. This has now become something of a tourist attraction although no-one seems to be able to remember why it is needed.
  23. Pretty much exactly the same on our street system, Anglia water also had to have a 'stern' word and touch wood, cross fingers etc we have been trouble free for 6 months now
  24. If you can get the time off work easily in case they want to inspect, keep asking for new bits of land to be cleared if you have enough perms, they have very limited resources at the moment 😉 It is a crazy system as you are either a conscientious and safe shot or you are not
  25. I was not aware there was any meat in greggs sausage roll
