I like the idea of pump pistols, and will get a crosman 1377 or 1322 some day. The recoiless nature of pneumatic and independence from external charging paraphernalia appeals to me. Getting good with a pistol especially a heavy ungainly springer is hard enough, pump up technology old fashioned or not appeals to me.

I listened to the advice on .177, and decided a week ago to buy a 1377 crosman, but i could not find one local but was drawn to a ux trevox which are .177. its a biggish pistol rather like the hatsan 25 supercharger but slightly lighter and gas ram type as opposed to hatsans spring power. the trevox os fairly quiet and accurate but the trigger is the worst part , its got lots of travel and although let off is crisp enough its a bit heavy and took some right getting used too. Use Crossman .177s at 7.4 grain and they do 530 to 535 fps the .177 wasps are a bit lighter and it was a few fps quicker but not just as accurate and still around 5 ft lbs. Just got it stet up with a red dot and it kills rats fine. The Umarex trevox is a quiet air pistol a lot quieter than the spring hatsan or especialy the co2 crossman which is quite loud for an air gun. Trevox has a cocking aid come moderator of sorts and that with this gas ram idea seems to work ok.

This is the way to go with cats these days, cheaper (Eurocats) are near worthless on the cat market, and aside from the cost of exhaust fabrication if you can not modify it yourself are a way around the cat situation we find our selves in today. Its relatively simple to get numbers off cats then go online and find out the market value of said cat on a vehicle. The World is awash with every conceivable form of chancer biding seemingly unrealistic prices for any used car and all this fiasco is based solely on the value of the cats. The principle of you win some / you lose some persists unfortunately and its robbed the car market of many vehicles that wont be replaced and its inflated prices too out of practicality in some cases. Many cars have strong priced cats bigger diesels and jap cars tend to be firm bets without doing any research, and a catles scrapper is worth its weight and simply fitting a euro cat to a catless car purchase is about the cheapest way into low budget motoring these days. Blame it on the jungle drum social media and everyone being an expert due to available online info so readily available, and lets not forget the cheap cordless grinder and a 8 stone brain addled low life yearling it on driveways across the country nightly. The blindless persuit of low emisions at so little acctual gain is costing many people a lot of money one way and another and its typicaly those who can ill aford to spend money who get hit by the whole cat sittuation.

Chedite case will give you decent amount of room, And B&P35 wad would fit with arounnd 32 grain of newer lots of A steel. ignition just stick with CX2000 dont need any primers with a high briscance with the newer lots A ateel these days. I would say go with a RTO on new Chedite hulls use frangible top discs and if going bio wads trial and error to get the was colum right and get these wild cat loads tested to stay super safe and perhaps more important in line with the Politically Correct trends around reloading data this last decade or so.

After the Pistol hand in i got a 2240 co2 pistol plinked with it for a few weeks, then locked it in a filing cabinet drawer and forgot about pistols they were just part of history as far as i was concerned. Fast forward 20 odd years, and in covid lockdown boredom had me revisit the 2240 and experimentation with pellets and trigger spring had me consistent with it and i was confident enough for up to ten yard rats. I went on to buy a Edgar Brothers 25 super charger in again.22, and this was a bit more of a chalenge to master, but the trigger adjustment and a red dot sight had me consistent enough and again i progressed to under ten yard rats. Pellets i settled on were good old eley wasps 14.5 grain and both air pistols were more or less legal limit at between 390fps to 425 fps respectfully the 2240 tailing off to 380 in cooler weather. I have no concerns hitting or killing rats with both these pistols, but would be interested to know what kind of ft lbs energey they are retaining at the ten yard max ranges i use them on rats. Any Chair gun owners or such programes , if you could help please i am interested to know .

Winchester h cases and their comparable wads work great in .410, but with diferent wads the case internal profile is not condusive to best use of these cases. Its kind of ok to load bismuth, and with the plaswad but what with the fibre wad move in the future its just fiocchi remington chedite etc. They will work but not as tough as the old winchesters. A move to brass as in CBC Brass .410s or (Reformed rifle cases) Is an option and 444 marlin 303 british, and the 9.3x 74r case (this will give close to a 3 inch case). These cases offer good case volume and in a sxs or O/U / single etc you can easily keep track of all cases not so practical with pumps or autos. wad sizes need consideration with brass and sometimes depending on powders or charge weights a squib load can present itself. Swapping out the often used large pistol primers for a large rifle can often solve such issues. pressure testing is of course needed in any such substitution. Video here on the creation of .410 from the 9.3x74 r brass. A formimng die would be preferable if available to avoid the inconvenience of fire forming not sure how hard one would be to make however.

Good points above, but in my personal case its more a case of the fact i have seen clearly what .410s with all their obvious technical shortfalls are capable of i want to use the .410 ok to save a small amount of money and do more with less. And from a reloading angle it opens up a new set of potential options. the rifle case option appeals to me. i have used brass cases in 4s and 8s in the past and revisiting this with some of the loads is something i am looking forward too. The 20 bore option i already have two and the 28 though a clear winner technically is not where i want to go. .410.. its the challenge something i want to do and i think for today the conservative nature of the .410 in my opinion fits in well with many aspects of todays changing shooting scene . TSS shot is one aspect of the .410 which its demuitive size and shot charge volumes largely eliviate the need for packers and the charge weights involved increase the number of shots per kilo and with the prices involved that is not a negative. The same can be said of bismuth to some extent. and Bismuth being the obvious felt wad shot option at the moment more shots per kilo again is practical. My opinion is i have done things with the .410 and certainly for decoying pigeons this last few years the 12 though it still works i sometimes think its a bit overkill for decoying these days having dipped my toe in the .410 waters it seems god to me.

WHY?

After a life time of mostly 12 bore for my pigeon shooting and given the ever increasing price of ammo and powder and components for reloading i have recently been contemplating changing from the bigger bores to the .410 for pigeons. I have used a Basque .410 SxS for some game shooting this past few years and have no doubts the .410 can do all i need from a pigeon gun. I am considering an O/U browning or possibly a beretta .410 i am sure there are other makes out there that will suffice but i will by getting one of these two, most probably a browning. I will be reloading and looking at the non tox loads right from the start. I drop bismuth myself already and will be looking at 7/16th oz steel loads too. Having no personal experience of non tox in .410 i would appreciate any advice and experience from those that have.

If you want shot for pigeon or partridge you can buy S7 Indi cast blasting shot . S7 is approximately 2.8--3.0Mm in size. Any blasting suppliers will sell it its about £50 + vat for 28 KGS.

Why should breeding and rearing game releasing it then killing it, be any different to breeding rearing and slaughtering cattle sheep pigs? Game birds get to be protected looked after we grow crops that offer them shelter and they are fed given water they live outside the do not all get killed some breed in the wild. In my opinion game have a better life than livestock .

I once was in the same yard as a chap who was cutting through a mounting and hit rubber with angle grinder the disk exploded he was lucky just to get his face ripped open. I personaly wont go near rubber with grinding disks . Just saying.

Eley for me not used winchester recently but used to be ok in the old 40 grain but in my 452 Eley is best. out of everything else.
