  1. As you can probably gather from the discussion in this thread a lot of advice you'll get from those who aren't qualified will be all over the place and up for debate. With something as important as a mortgage I'd recommend you take advice from the likes of PW with a pinch of salt and get some real (up-to date!) advice from a financial advisor. I've seen multiple instances of sound financial advice saving people a LOT of hassle recently.
  2. Not sure which Freelander you'd be looking at for 2k, but I'd strongly recommend staying away from the petrol one. They had BIG issues, they're almost notorious for it. I got stung by this.
  3. I can see it's on for a week. Do you just pick which days you're available to compete?
  4. Ok. "novelty: the quality of being new, original, or unusual." I'd disagree with you and say I do find a triple-barrel rather 'unusual'.
  5. Are there any grounds/types of events that offer the ability to shoot with many guns in the one session? I noticed on one charity shoot I went to once they had a few novelty guns out for use (triple-barrel etc.) so wondering if there were some type of 'day'/event that I can go to for this? Or a particular shop that that lets you try many out? Thanks in advance
  6. Our justice system can't be trusted with it. Wouldn't dream of signing it. That's not to say I haven't met people I'd rather were wiped off the face of the Earth, but 'beyond reasonable doubt' doesn't cut it for me. It's a fact that the wrong people have been executed in countries where capital punishment is exercised. No escaping facts.

I've been, I seen a group of girls taking pictures with selfie sticks in front of what they called the 'death wall'. Embarrassing. I said something to them but I didn't want cause any trouble out of respect for the place so kept it sensible. After visiting, I'd say I was disappointed that I'd went. I felt like in a way I'd been disrespectful by going. And when people have asked me since I've been whether I'd recommend it I'd say no. I feel like it's a gawping session for most. How some of the other visitors composed themselves in such a place made me sick, no respect whatsoever.
  8. I never understand this reasoning (no offence). If you choose to run a business, accept there'll be some paperwork. Making what's arguably the wrong choice in business to save on paperwork baffles me. I hear this a lot, contractors like me choosing to operate under umbrella/sole trader for the sake of filling out some paperwork. Madness.
  9. Ltd here. I wouldn't attempt it without an accountant, as already mentioned. Insurance I guess would depend on your trade. In fact, many of the answers to pros and cons could be trade specific. The finance stuff buze already pretty much covered. One example of a trade-specific thing that might sway it is, for example, in software development (what I do), a lot of agencies won't deal with sole traders. Could've been a big deal for me, although I'd expect I was going direct sooner rather than later to clients - I didn't want to rule out the use of an agency.
  10. Had an odd conversation with these not too long ago. Insisted on me paying for tuition for every visit I made if I was taking friends without their own certificate. Not heard of this before.
  11. Thanks very much for all of the replies! Very helpful. Coincidentally, one of them went 'pop' this morning. On looking at them again (I did say I don't know a lot about cars), I'm not convinced they're low profile, so I'm guessing it's worth getting them to have a look at the suspension/shock absorbers when I go and get the new tyre sorted. Pic attached.
  12. Thanks mate, I have no problem changing the tyres - the ride at the minute is abysmal so if it's not the suspension I'll definitely be looking into this. The only reason I'm not certain is because they're not very low profile, I'll upload a pic later. Thanks mate. Silly question - would they always be blown evenly (on both sides), I don't feel like a particular side (or even front/back) are worse than others, just generally when I go over something it feels like the whole car is cracking, not nice at all. Is it tricky to check this myself ye? Thanks again
  13. I don't know a lot about cars - looking for advice on whether it's possible to improve the suspension of my insignia or not. I'm very happy with every other aspect of the car but I'm close to trading it in because of the suspension, it doesn't handle even the slightest of bumps well at all. You feel everything in it. Quite possibly because of the tyres being low(ish) profile, but not exceptionally so. If it is the suspension, what are my options? Nice one PW
  14. I wouldn't get anything less than 4gb ram, even if you're not doing anything particularly taxing. I'd say safely disregard hdd capacity, most are decent size these days and if not you have cloud storage/external drive options. Biggest question (arguably bigger impact on peformance than a processor) is ssd or not. I'm having the same debate now, looking to get my Mum one - I'm going to opt to keep to below the 280 budget and give the ssd a miss. I'm a developer so for me it's a must but typically the newer drives are fine anyway and fast enough for bog standard tasks. I'll let you know which one I buy tomorrow, it'll be from Currys, sounds like we're after a similar spec.
  15. I find it impossible to comprehend the mental state of someone who is capable of that, let alone enjoy it.
  16. Quick question - would you expect the size of the tiles to affect the cost of the job (kitchen and hallway, in case it matters)? I'm talking the difference between 60 x 60 and 60 x 30. I'm assuming not, but it is an assumption. Thanks
  17. I like how down to earth your point is, and I really hate pretentiousness, but I think there definitely are things whereby 'you get what you pay for' applies. Either way, was just wondering out of curiosity, I don't believe the more you pay for a gun the better it is or the better you'll shoot with it at all.
  18. Done with this thread lads, it's no longer productive. I'm sure we've all got other stuff to be cracking on with rather than point scoring. Appreciate all the responses
  19. No mate, read the rest of the post "was just giving a bit of insight into why people over-think this". I was saying that these may be some of the specifics that those who analyse it might ask themselves. I've also said a few times now that I concede, that I was just giving an insight and that I've stopped over-thinking it. The only reason I've explained this is because according to you you're failing to understand why people "try shortcuts" or "over think" things ("Why people insist on over complicating things I just don’t know"). Getting a bit daft this thread now.
  20. Entirely missed the point of my post. No worries though - I can't really be bothered continuing this, it's gone on a bit now - to reiterate, was just giving a bit of insight into why people over-think this, which is what you said you were confused about. Appreciate the replies nonetheless, all helpful for someone like me relatively new to the sport.
  21. I was letting this thread die, since I got the impression people were getting sick of the angle my question was coming from, but since it's been revived, I'll explain why I, and maybe others, tend to think in depth about things like this (whether that's 'over' thinking is subjective). I think shooting's great for me personally because (as you can see from the lesson I've learnt in this thread), it teaches you to stop thinking so much - and it's in my nature to think about intricate details, which is why I'm good at my job. The only thinking you need to do all happens before you even step up to the stand (hold point, general flight path of the bird etc.). After that, you're supposed to intentionally fallback on what you already have the instinct to do, subconsciously almost. Great, the ideal approach, but if you're not hitting the clays - saying "stop over-thinking" to somebody used to working things through doesn't work. Especially when there are most definitely variables that affect shooting success, that's a fact - tricky to ignore that when you're missing. Why wouldn't I want to get a grip of those variables to improve my game? "Just practice" - ok, will do, practice what exactly though? "Sight picture you prefer" - well surely 'optimal' is a wiser choice than 'preferred'? "Dialling it in is unnecessary" - well, if I'm choosing a sight picture on preference, then I'll need to compensate (dial it in) obviously. I'm not saying you're wrong, on the contrary I'd bet you're a far far better shot than me, and in fact I've conceded - I've stopped picking apart my approach in this way (and don't have much more enthusiasm left for discussing in this thread). I'm just givin you an insight into how it's hard not to be analytical for people who are usually very analytical. Everyone's different.
