  1. Welcome. 12 speaks for itself 76 is chamber length in mm 1200 is the maximum pressure cartridges have this information on the box so best go through with your local gunshop. Ask for wildfowling loads that equate to these parameters in whatever projectile material you prefer then pattern them.
  2. I am not aware of anyone loading AS in 8 bore. I use blue dot.
  3. An interesting article which raises issues that will need to addressed. It is not the mere designation as a National Park that is the issue so much as the regulations that go with it. With the current record of the Welsh Government and their total lack of knowledge of land management it does not bode well in the Principality. Conservation, country sports, and agriculture can work in harmony if given the opportunity. My fear is that our urban society and its Beatrix Potter view of nature will not allow that opportunity.
  4. BP is wonderful stuff. You need two licenses. The first to acquire and keep from Police Scotland and one to transport from HSE. The load I have in my BP Muzzle loading book is 4 1/2 drams of black powder and 1 1/2 ozs of lead for ten bore.
  5. I follow your thought process on new barrels. I bought a Dickson a few years ago for the reasons you set out. In my case not by the original maker but by McKay Brown so as good as it gets in my view.
  6. To be honest I post very little about my wildfowling trips despite keeping a detailed diary of all shooting and fishing trips since 1982. Part of me as a Wildfowler harks back to when you kept your successes, and many failures, to yourself. Perhaps I should share more on the forum?
  7. And to balance it up my son posted a parcel in Stevenage, paid first class and no more. Arrived the next day in Dumfries so first class service indeed!
  8. I used to load 1 3/8oz in a 2 5/8” chambered Damascus 10 bore and found it very effective out to 40 yds. It was my preferred gun over decoys. It might be worth trying some of Alan Myers shortcase loads packed out for that chamber/cartridge length.
  9. Pm me your email address. I can let you have lead data which you can work on for bismuth. I might also have some bismuth data about, not sure as I don’t use it. Frankly you will have difficulty getting any suitable powder at present!
  10. Can’t answer the question but I keep a copy on my mobile phone.
  11. The way around the plastic issue is to get in touch with Graham Deakin’s and buy one of his cup card making kits. This produce inverted wads similar to those in the old Winchester wildfowling loads and they work well. I have the kits in 8 & 10 bore.
  12. Just replaced my standard hp inkjet with an hp smart tank plus 555. It uses reservoirs rather than cartridges so printing is a fraction of the cost. To date I am very impressed having just printed 60 double side A4 newsletters and barely used any ink out of the tanks.
  13. I have only used Eley and was very impressed at standard ranges.
  14. Sounds like the same field. Lost my wellie half way across trying to get in place quickly as we heard geese coming off the Loch. Albert was behind the bar first couple of years and that was 27 years ago now! It will all be in my diaries somewhere.
  15. I shot with Mal mostly. Sandy was with him one year but…. Last time we were there, a long time ago, there were two Rotties, one a pup. Happy memories and some great flights including a moon flight on a flooded tattie field
  16. A good call as I used to stay there when decoying with a guide.
  17. I am with you on this. Whilst I have never bred I have a really promising dog at present with a nose that would smell a gnat **** two hundred yards away. I had a few people asking about using him at stud so started with eyes, all clear, then hips and elbows. Hips less than 10 but elbows 1 & 2 sadly. So decided that was the end of that and had him castrated. No way was he going into the gene pool despite everything. He will remain a picking up dog and I dont see I have really lost anything apart from the cost of tests to date.
  18. Agreed! As with all markets they find their own level by sales or not as the case may be.
  19. Wales will be devoid of red listed species the way they are going!
  20. You could certainly get a ticket to come out on the Solway but getting a goose on the coast first or second time out is a rarity. Best bet is find a guide who will fit you in over decoys but it will cost you. Many Wildfowlers will happily give you a goose if you are desperate.
  21. I know of people with tens of guns on a certificate. There is no limit I am aware of.
  22. I wouldn’t worry too much if the vet is happy. When mine get like that I starve for 24 hours and then boiled rice for a day or so then add chicken, then slowly back to normal food.
